Social media is a far cry from being social. It is used for many business purposes many of them critical.

The data presented here approximates the last 2 years of selected effort.

Some questions:

  • How many types of social media do you use?
  • Why do you use each type?
  • Are your business goals met by the SM you use?
  • Will you discontinue using any and if so why?

Business is a manpower intensive effort. This leads to human interactions. This in turn leads to what social media is designed for!.
Rock on fellow compatriots. Let's get social today!

We never change, first, it was paintings on a cave wall. Jay

I don't use any social media, except for this site!

OK, Mike, I will bite on this one:

Facebook - Social personal sharing/interacting, Business pages, Groups for niches/subjects interested for hobbies/business...I have too many accounts to list here...

Twitter - same as above, but I seldom use it for writing much, more for posting only, I have 4 accounts...

Blogger dot com - Synapses of posts from IM websites and from ECom stores (SEO boost)...

Google + - SAB, not very active...

YouTube - Business vids for the websites...

Tumblr/StumbleUpon/Medium/Reddit - Infrequent user/poster...You see all the stuff above??? : )

Cheers!
Dave : )

Thank you Dave!

I use twitter seldomly. Also, I've started to use Facebook more often, but the reason I quit using it for years and years was the political posts, and those are still there, I just have to learn how to ignore them! I also use Google+ Not a lot of website interaction with any of them yet. And I use LinkedIn. Probably Google+ is the best so far.

Steve

I Agree. I escaped it for a few years but have been sucked back in over the last 6 months or so. Can't imagine how many friends or family who have probably blocked me since FB shows your comments to them... (and surely they dont care to read them... nor do I want them to). I'm planning a post soon to apologize to all those who have had my thread comments put into their news feeds... and then I need to quit...lol.

I use Twitter and (occasionally) Instagram for business.
I use Facebook for business, and also to see what family and friends are up to. I read much more than I write. If I post, 80% of the time it's to promote something.

I use FB for business, catching up with family and socializing.

Great post!
I use 1-5 SM outlets.
I use Facebook for business, socialization, and catching up with family.
Twitter for interactions, interests, and socialization.
Instagram for posting updates about events and to help encourage me to get out more (lol)! Though, I hardly find this type of SM of any use, of course, bearing in mind that is my personal preference.
Pinterest for updates on interests and business.
Lastly, Google+ for entertainment, business, and socialization.
Goals: My business goals are still on the rise, FB helps with marketing and Twitter helps with interactions.
I may toss out Instagram because it does not suit my lifestyle. As mentioned above, I hardly use this form of SM and just may end up not using it anymore.

You're showing a healthy use pattern Jill!

They forgot cats. They stand separately..lol
Somebody said about social networks today: "We live like people did in ancient Egypt. We write on the walls and glorify cats."...:)

Hi Mike, I use about 6-7 different social media sites. In order of use and importance:
Facebook for social interactions, and biz promotions
Google + mostly biz promotions, post announcements
Linkedin biz promotions and interactions
Twitter social, and biz
Flipboard biz
Pinterest biz
Stumble Upon biz
Instagram biz
and a few others.

Facebook comes the closest to meeting my business goals. Linkedin is also good.
Google Plus helps with promotion of my websites, and related pages, and posts.
The rest so far have had little, if any impact on my business goals.
I don't foresee discontinuing any as I post to them whenever I add to my websites. Have to figure that it is worth the little time and effort to post to them, and the jury is still out as to their long term effectiveness.
Quora is another good one that I use often, and with good results.

I will have to go through that list.

Thanks Mike
