what theme shall I use?
Many times I have seen the inquiries about theme selection. There are many brands all with attractive elements. I have some knowledge of the categories.
This list breaks them by useful categories. Very helpful by
- nature of publication - matched to categories such as portfolio for brochures, magazines, blogs, commerce and technical
- keywords - here is where you drill down to areas of interest. These usually match up to a niche, but not always. For instance page builder and thesis are more types of categories
- Brands - these give an overview of the development and general nature off the theme. Some I am familiar with. Woo and Elegant theme which include the renowned Divi, and theme forest.
Themes are not as easy to fit into Word Press. The number and magnitude of them requires reams of coding for variable particulars. They were developed from the original Cascadng Style Sheet scheme.
These divisions are constantly in flux as theme development is an ongoing process for developers everywhere. Also, they are not completely inclusive.
The intent of this presentation is to give a top down overview of the forest. When you get down to the details at grass level, you'll be amazed at what themes can do.
This selection format may not play in the WA editor. It might be necessary to Google the selections for more details.

Choosing a theme has been a constant struggle for me for years. The one I liked the best had not been updated by the developer for over 2 years. Finally, one of the WordPress upgrades made the theme inoperable. So I had to change (again).
I tried a variety of paid themes. I finally decided to go with Thrive Themes and finish the endless search for a good, functioning theme that I liked.
Gosh, themes can be a headache. I have changed so many times. Right now I still have images to fix. Anything free is too limited. This guide will certainly help.
Themes can be a minefield at times, this is a good overview Mike, thanks for sharing.
Personally I use the Astra theme, having decided to go for practicality instead of looks, together with Elementor, so far it works well.
Very good advice and detail here. I used to be changing my theme constantly, then I found one that I loved, so I bought and now I never change it. Anyway, lots of good information to help people find the perfect theme. BTW, you have made me think about chocolate mini eggs.....

I just picked a theme. My first one, from our selections.
Someone told me that I might want a theme that had space in it for titles / subtitles.
Then, Mike adds more information about how themes opperate.
So, there's a lot to all of these steps (My Baby Steps!)
What I love about WA, are people like Mike freely sharing, lighting the way.
What frightens me, where I am not strong,
someone nearby will help me along.
