Exploring the depths of science. Physicists are loaded with explanations on the workings of the cosmos. The concept of stretching and bending space has been adapted by the media industry. This is where the ideas come from in Star Trek episodes and movies.
Einstein's Theory of Relativity and other scientific musings have always been a draw for an ultimate method of satisfying curiosity on the big screen and on television. In the late 1960s about 50 years later, the entertainment industry began making a case of this theory in Star Trek presentations.
In 1915, Einstein formulated field equations which indicate the curvature of spacetime with the energy, mass and emotion within it. Gravitational wells generate terrific force that actually slow time, causing clocks to slow down Time actually dilates in deep gravity wells. The force is so strong it wrenches this third dimensional void of space into the fourth dimension of time.
If you take a two-dimensional sheet of paper and bend it you can touch one edge to the other by movement through third dimensional space. The logic moves out in a new (fourth) direction or dimension. The degree of fold is logically called a warp.
Now with enormous bursts of energy the third dimensional "fabric" is bent. In some cases it can be bent so acutely that it tears the space fabric causing a rift. In this fashion physical objects could "fall" or disappear into another era of time. The third dimension of space is warped through time. In this fashion at a high "warp"setting a ship could be immediately transported to another galaxy.
Science fiction and the results, especially if theories are proven, represent a leap forward in the presentation of sensational content. Here is the unexpected, the unique, the justification and satisfaction of curiosity.
This kind of presentation sells audiences. Products associated with them either in spot commercials or physical knock offs will resonate and be remembered. There is power in new ideas or the proper presentation of old ones that is constantly moving our businesses and commercial fortunes forward!

Coming from my own lence of background training you've just knowingly or unknowingly beautifully harped once again to all of us here the fact that our planet earth is now over ripped for harvest by the Owner!
There will be no need however for any boat as the designer had said that this earth will no longer be destroyed with water because he had given this often proudly ranging oceans an eternal boundary and limit where they MUST not cross according to Job.
Oceans are free to range with pompousity from time to time so the scientists will have something to write and report BUT will never go more than that to cross the limit given to it by its maker!
Reason being that this present earth has been reserved to be destroyed with fire and not water any more at and on its Maker's appointed day and time.
Our expected response now is to be smart enough to act wisely and get READY for whenever that day and time will be.
Scientists can only speculate and keep speculating until that day.
The reason Mike, being that "the best of man is still man at his best".

I can't say that I fully understand this, but it is interesting. I guess we should take our marketing to another dimension on the space-time continuum.
