I'v been quite busy all week. Finally tonight I should have my laptop back.
The law of averages has caught up with my community on Tuesday. I live in the Leonardtown Maryland area.
As I was attending my physical therapy aqua therapy session on Monday sirens started screaming by on the road outside.Soon the asssistants were talking heatedly.A lady came in and was sobbing hystericaly and was being calmed down by the chief attendant.
This is on Route 5 in Mechanicsville some 15 miles north of Great Mills High School In southern Maryland'
Great Mills High school had a school shooting. As far as I know the first in Southern Maryland.I would have expected it in Baltimore or the closer in DC suburbs but not here. My grandson goes to Chopticon HS just two districts up. He didn't go that day which was a relief. They put everything on lockdown and bussed the remaining students to Leonard town the district between GreatMills and Chopticon.
The shooter was a 17 year old who was given a dear John notice by his sweetheart. The shooter iisand the girl are dead and another student was critically injured. He came into the school from the bus and as soon as he spotted her in an open hallway, opened fire with a Glock 9mm pistol.
After issuing the lockdown the authorities immediately issued a strong advisory against a "social media explosion" Instant news broadcasting like this can spread rumors and compound the tragedy."He said, she said diatribe is not properly vetted.
Iresponsible parents are where the fault lies. The weapon, while legally owned by the father was unsecured and readily available to someone classed as a minor by current law.
There was an immediate lockdown. The warning went on about using social media. as many students weere having a Snapchat festival!
To all my friends in North Florida. I really feel your pain. Electronics whether hardware or software are creeping in and taking over. My grandson (17) safely home couldn't wait to jump into Fortnite, Minecraft and Modern Warfare. He already has the leadership skills multiplayer style to direct a company battalion.

That's the emotional outburst anyone can have but it can be controlled by thinking several times and arming ourselves with the best option and decisions in life.
I'm glad your grandson is okay. My heart goes out to the girl who was killed, the child who was critically injured, and the boy who decided to bring a gun to school.

Yes, this was yet another tragedy Mike. We never know where this sort of thing is gonna show up.
Last week where I am working in Kentucky I awoke to choppers and drones everywhere. It went on all day and I could still hear choppers in the air as I went to bed that night. Many businessess were on lockdown all that day.
A city police officer had been shot and killed (12 year veteran of the force). Shot 3 times and at least once in the face according to news reports, left behind a wife and an infant child. Drug related investigation and the guy got away after he shot the officer. He was thankfully finally captured the next morning. Was a repeat felony offender (now there's a shocker for ya, eh?), not!
I think the incident was the 2nd time an officer had been shot and killed in the line of duty in the particular area.
I happen to live in North Florida but I'm thinking the incident to which you refer was Parkland, Fl....way south...not that it matters, because it does not matter where it happened.
It's all senseless!

It's really hard to comprehend. I used to carry my 12 gauge single barrel shot gun to school during squirrel season so I could go hunting after school. It never came out of the truck unless I was hunting. I will keep everyone in my prayers and pray that things get better in America.
Good to hear your grandson is ok. Too many shootings in schools these days.

It must be frightening for kids going to school because it is happening all the time and in places where people think it wouldn't happen. AND you have the other problem of STUPIDITY by irresponsible parents. OMG
