proofing your novel effects
Critical dialogues can be established through events and characters in your written novel. It is important to establish the pace and direction of your written content.
There are many things that go into writing a good novel. The setting or physical location of the action can help establish the backstory. Likewise, the time period or mileau also identifies the action.
Of major concern is the theme or purpose of the action. This is usually defined by the genre, whether it be mystery, thriller, crime, romance and so on.
No greater mainspring to a great novel, however, is characterization. This gives the novel purpose which brings all the other elements together.
When I first started reading several years (read decades) ago The type of novel that put me to sleep fastest was set in an English or New England environment. The characters all seemed droll and stuffy. That is a symptom of a younger age
Plot and pace and spot thrills ruled the action for me. Science fiction, horror, fantasy all intrigued me as they still do. However, as my reading reached a greater level of maturity I started picking up on romance (which is now the most profitable genre).
This has led the way to a greater appreciation of intrigue and subplots. The definition of motives and purposes also comes with becoming adept at characterization.
A developed knack and love of characterization does a few great things.
- your knowledge of vocabulary from sentence structure and dialogue to parts of speech is expanded
- you understand people and their interactions better
- it's easier to comprehend and further your human understanding, especially in a global community.
- You learn more about yourself as you interact. This is a great thing about Wealthy Affiliate. You become adept at paying it forward and having followers also helps this action.
If you notice the model and questions asked in this post, it centers around one thing -characterization. You as the crafter and reader get drawn into your novel. You can't help it. You actually are the prime character in your novel
Each of us can develop the knack here in concert with the training and our websites. It then helps us build successful businesses as we move forward.

We can be the stars of our own show. I really appreciated your post Mike, I guess there is a novel in all of us just waiting to pour it's self onto the key board.
Good Morning Mike,
When I was still a small girl I used to write little poems and short stories. When My Mother died in 1997 I found them all nicely bundled and put in a file, something like My daughter's achievements. To discover that was very touching.
I do not know if I will ever write a book as writing for my 2 websites take up most of my time.
Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Kind of funny because I’m in the process of writing my first romance novel and a few people here at WA gave me the encouragement I needed to start writing it. I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing. :)

This was good. I think I actually asked myself those questions as I was proofing, but a list is nice to follow. Pacing is my problem, for one thing, since I am writing/reading from a mature point of view. But when my own novel started to bore me, which it did, I started to pay attention, and worked to fix it.
We are our best critics deelilah!
