News out of control
First of all we have a news epidemic in the press. Fox, CNN and others have been involved. There is a fog of uncertainty that pervades All published information. It is hard to know what to trust!
That seems to have set the stage for more corruption of the social media. There are problems now with undue political rants pervading Facebook and Twitter. Slurs, offensive images and slogans are more widespread.
This now includes hacking into accounts as in a twitter McDONALD's account (note embedded surname) The wider area of broadcast selective interest is here.

We must be careful in our blogging community to ensure our news is properly sourced and attributed. Our messages to our affiliate investor partners are important to us and need not be off the mark in content

Yes. Any information must be as accurate as possible. Which means taking the time to fact check that information, even if take extra time.
Yes, on the one hand, the internet social platforms have unleashed a new means for manipulation, misinformation, and misdirection...
As you say, it has been happening for years as TV 'news' has become more segmented and with the proliferation of cable channels...
These days people can listen to news and viewpoints they support and not even have a debate over differing views...They can simply tune others viewpoints out.
This of course plays into populist politicians who promote and want this segmentation...Divide, misdirect, lie, cheat, and do what is good for you, damn what others think, feel, need...
It requires a more discerning analysis these days to find our if you are being lied to or manipulated (of course there is little truly objective news but it is there if you look)...
Wild west all over, on steroids and using electrons...You are right that in the online business lane, best to keep it focused and professional...Avoid controversy...

There has been a culture war for decades but due to social media, it's more widespread & because of that, it's growing It continues to play itself into our everyday fabric & it's all disturbing to our American society.
We do have to carry out the due diligence of what we "hear/read".

Hi.. The problem is global. Most unfortunate, but many powerful forces including nation and political actors, and the usual rogues, rascals and crooks, work at manipulating what shows on social media.
This is simply another reason all of the things we publish are correct, logical and accurate!
