This morning (local Himalayan time) There were unprecedented deaths on MT Everest. This can be found on many news channels!

Overcharging and capital greed create new challenges where there were none. We've read a lot in the last several years of the depletion of global resources. It's bad enough that the oceans are rising by some amount.

This author reported two weeks ago on a large plastic sheet found at the seafloor on the bottom of the Marianas Trench. The trappings and ills of commercialism are reaching in the other direction!

It used to be the most dangerous things that occurred on MT Everest were hypothermia and falls on an occasional basis, Now there isn't anything safe.

Everest is the holy grail of conquest by an increasingly jaded generation primed by television "survivalist" series People are so caught up in this climbing frenzy that they don't even value their lives to satisfy the rush!

Unscrupulous "adventuring" companies are mounting expeditions at unprecedented levels for "guide tours" to the top of MT Everest. Their zeal is matched by profiteering desires in The government of Nepal (the resident country. Like lemmings in reverse people are streaming out of Katmandu on these treks! This is something to watch in the pursuit of profits. When the safety of the customer is sacrificed all things go.

WA ers take note and value your customers all the more!

Hi Michael.

Excellent, thought-provoking article.

Hadn't realised that we'd sullied the ocean to the point that we've polluted the Marianas trench! Yikes! Uber bummer.

A second member today has mentioned being depressed, the first barely a week ago, and I've speculated that the drive here for profits and "success" may be behind this. (Okay, I've zero admissible evidence to convince a court, but I'm going to stick to my strong gut feeling on this.)

I've always emphasised having fun over seeking profits, because we can't guarantee the latter whereas we ought to be able with the former. Henceforth, I have decided to emphasise having fun even more!

So, here's to fun.

Regards,

Wow, need to read about this! Will look now.
We have been distracted down here from the earthquake that hit northern Peru yesterday and was felt by us here and in Columbia, big time. Our apartment shook for a minute and a half. It was an 8.
Thanks for calling our attention to these terrible things happening on the mountain!

Striking close to home in another way guys!

🖖🏽

When people discover that the urge to keep doing more and better is really our inner self wanting to do more and better, and nothing you do on the material level of living will satisfy that urge, then they will quit pushing themselves on the physical plane. Most humans miss it, that the urge is internal and within ourselves and is where it needs to go. If that urge for more and more and greater accomplishes was applied to helping others and taking care of our planet, how much greater would the planet be?

Hi Mike,
So very true my friend.
Stuart

Good afternoon Mike,

It is sad but mass tourism is everywhere.
Most salt sources worldwide are contaminated by microplastics, what a world.

Good evening Janie,

I spend 5 years in Italy from 1969 to 1974. I studied in Perugia and worked as a tourist guide.
Yes, our planet is not in good shape and that is mainly our fault.

Hey! expert in the central chain of the Apennines!

It hardly seems a challenge if they are all following each other like sheep.

Very true...people do the dumbest things just because they think they can.

Risk is there in many aspects of life, but calculated risk and common sense needs to prevail also. I agree Mike that these deaths are needless, yet those very high risks situation were for only a few years ago for exploration not for the thrill.
We noticed higher death defying rides at an amusement park Sat on the way home from a trip and my wife noted what people saw in these. I said the thrill. People are not satisfied with less it’s always going to be bigger and better. Satisfaction not just commercialism has become a part of our lives.

Patience to grow and succeed is all around us. It’s up to us to make sure we teach this to another generation if we can the best we can.
Bill

The amusement park industry is something else. Higher and faster every year!

That is very risky. So as with business we need to take the risk in order to be successful in life.

Good thoughts!
