From time immemorial fences and barriers have divided up the world. The Iron curtain and the Bamboo curtain are legendary political barriers of the 20th century. Later the Israelis constructed a barrier in the West Bank. This one was made of transparent material to lesson the imposing effect of non visibility
Even after the Berlin wall fell the practice seems to have picked up steam. It has touched the US in terms of the impetus to put a fence along the Mexican border. There is controversy on the funding and dealing with as much as 6 different types of terrain and political problems along the perimeter.
Now the situation has cropped up within the United States. In San Jose California. Neighbors are protesting a homeless encampment under a nearby freeway. The homeless often sortie out into the neighborhoods and complaints about resident health and safety have escalated.
The answer...an 8 foot high chain link fence. Designed to effectively prevent local migration! Until the community at large can adopt our great open neighbor policy here at Wealthy Affiliate. these kind of divisions will never die!!

This is ridiculous! We are one of the richest countries in the world yet we can't take care of our homeless. People who have a home don't appreciate the fact that they could be homeless anytime. If we spent some of the money that we give to foreign countries for building homes for the needy at low cost for people who need them even as a temporary measure we wouldn't have to put up fences to keep out human beings like we do wild animals.

Yeah, fences are much more than just wooden or metal structures... There were projects on part of Ukraine to build fences on the Ukrainian -Russian border.Ridiculous. Do Russian people need to sneak into Ukrainian territory? Once a monolith nation, Russian and Ukrainian people are now divided by fences in mentality, hatred, ambitions of politicians..
I wonder if a fence has been erected at the northern neck of the Crimea peninsula Vera since Russia retook it from Ukraine. Also the situation in the 3 easternmost provinces of Ukraine is amorphous half retaken by Russian sympathizers so a fence would be pointless there!
I heard, now in Ukraine you can't visit any Russian social network, such as VK, any longer.

This topic of fences pivots us to the bigger question, "Will the great wall along the Mexico border ever be built?"
Snippets of it have been built. But it's a joke put up for political purposes than anything else. Easily swam through in the Rio Grande and tunneled under in the western area!
