National Day of Encouragement - September 12, 2015
I periodically receive an email telling me what “day” it is - today’s said it was National Day of Encouragement (along with National Video Game day and National Chocolate Milk Shake day !?!). Now I usually read the email, smile and delete it but today I got to thinking about encouragement and how very important it is to us in WA and to everyone for that matter! This is actually a great idea!
National Day of Encouragement was announced in 2007 and from what I can tell it was an idea sprouted by a group of high school students at Harding University. They felt the root of most problems they experienced in high school was a lack of encouragement. The idea for a day of encouragement was formed and the program assistant director, Andrew Baker, challenged the students to get it to the White House. They did it! It is a day dedicated to making a positive impact and lifting the spirits of people around you, to perform deliberate acts of encouragement! It is fantastic what some kids think of!
So I am planning to celebrate National Day of Encouragement today. Here are some things I am planning on doing:
- Send an encouraging ECard to folks I know! (Done!)
- Take a friend who is having trouble to coffee!
- Cook something special for my husband who is feeling a bit down
- Smiling – which is my normal state but I will turn it up a notch!
- Saying thank you to everyone who does anything for me!
- Tell the people around me they are doing a great job! That their hard work is paying off!
I might also have a chocolate milkshake if I get a chance – I haven’t had one in years!
And don't let me forget to tell everyone....

Hooray! It is National Day of Encouragement. I think it should be every day. This is a great blog, very informative, and I think it is a very good Idea for all of us to embrace this in our every day life's...as I feel we have been doing here at WA. That is why we are such an awesome community. You are right children can come up with the best ideas and thoughts...and make it fun too...like a chocolate milkshake!! I think it sounds pretty good. Haven't had one of those in years.
Excellent post and very informative of why we should celebrate Encouragement Day! How sad it is that the teachers at Harding didn't take enough time to encourage students!

I have not heard of encouragement day, we do get quite a bit of encouragement from the community, do not know about the milkshake not something I like will leave that to the grandchildren
I think I could take my family for chocolate milk shakes and keep the two themes together. Mmmmm... Yummy.
Actually, I have already done a bunch today - encouraged my daughter and husband to take naps since they have colds, bought my other daughter a blueberry muffin and wished her well as she heads off to a high school marching band competition thing, and texted my son to have a great day at the geek convention he is at for the weekend. Now, I am trying to encourage myself!
