Further Up The Mountain

So, here we go. How far have I actually come over the past 6 months. When I first started, I figured I'd give this six months to see what happened. Am I happy with what I've achieved so far? Yes, I am pleased with what I've achieved.

Am I where I want to be yet? No. I said six months, but it's gonna take longer. Am I discouraged? No, because I've been making progress, although it's hard to measure progress here in the usual way. The technical stuff has been a huge challenge to me, and I'd often get frustrated with how slowly I have to absorb the technical issues. I am convinced that, as Kyle says, he's never seen anyone fail except by quitting. So, quitting isn't an option, at least not for me.

I am a writer and my site is about a genre of fiction that I developed a love affair with while I was going through some very difficult times. It's pulp fiction, and Noir, as in the movies of the '40 & 50s, usually dealing with crime and the consequences of crime, which was a very popular theme during that time in Hollywood. I have several posts on my site now and one story that I've published there, and I have more in the works. I intend to link up with some kind of Internet book dealers, most of them these days have a large collection of that genre, which includes many other sub-genres such as adventure, sci fi, mystery, etc. I have learned to use caution in looking for affiliates, and reading users' comments for those sites proved invaluable and kept me from making possibly a costly mistake. I am not in a big such a hurry to affiliate with anyone yet; I’ve taken Kyle’s lesson about content serious, so that’s what I’m most concentrating on, creating more relevant content.

I'm proud of the fact that I have managed to stick with this for so long, even though there were times when I was tearing my hair out by the roots (I read posts on the WA site that spoke of that, not just me). I'm proud of the fact that I have been able to make friends here on WA, people I don't know personally but who have made me feel at home. I'm proud of the fact that I opened up to strangers. This allowed me to trust people more and to "always take hold of things by the smooth handle," as wise old Thomas Jefferson said. And that pretty much goes for everything. By participating here with other members and sharing thoughts and ideas, I have learned a lot.

I guess within the next three to 6 months I'd like to link up with an affiliate I can trust and go from there and continue turning out content and ultimately connecting with other authors like myself.
