Something you should know when choosing your niche.

Hi my fellow WA members,

I have learnt something recently which might be of interest to you. I am not sure if it will help you or it might make your life a bit more difficult. One way or the other, you should be happy I told you about it.

When Kyle was teaching you about choosing a niche - he said you can make money with any niche. It is correct only to certain extend, you know nothing is absolute in life. For example, if your niche is "watching grass grow", then you could be the only one in this world who are interested in it. Even though you can see a high monthly search on the internet with this keyword. It isn't watching grass grow they are interest in.

Some niches are better than other. You have to consider the following factors when choosing your niche.

1. Is it easy to rank. When your niche is not so popular then you can get ranking easily. You would be riding a escalator and you will see result faster. I have seen some members who have only few pages of content and they have already got a page 2 Google ranking.

If you have making money niche, you will be pushing a cart uphill. You might get rank over 200 initially and then it will take you 3 months to rank at page 3 or page 4. You will not even know if it is possible for you push it to page 1.

One solution for this is to aim at a micro-niche, that was why Kyle talk about narrowing your niche.

2. How many audiences can you get? I have seen some members choosing laptop repair as their niche. How many people in this world are able to repair their own laptop? I would say not many. If you say desktop computer, then it would be a bit better. Those people who knows how to repair their own computer would already know where to get their parts.

Think about this, how many audiences could you appeal to? For example:

Laptop repair: 50

Desktop repair: 100

Buying computer: 10,000

Weight loss: 100,000

I just make up these numbers. You have to consider this - would you want to have a website with thousands of visitors rather than tens?

So it is a trade off on (1) and (2), when you choose a micro-niche, you will have less audience. When you choose a broader niche, it will be harder to rank. So you have to make a choice? Easy vs hard and more audience vs less audience.

3. Think about what you can offer? Do you have something unique that you can offer? You need to look at the all the websites which are ranked on the first few pages. See what do they have and what don't they have? It will give you ideas of what to put in your website as well.

So my dear WA friends, choose wisely. Put more time in choosing your niche. It is not just when you are passionate about a niche then it should be what you should do. We are talking about making money here.

Otherwise, you will find that you are getting nowhere few months later. You have wasted all the effort you put in. Here is where many people start quitting. Therefore I want to tell you this and you can think about what you are doing now - are you heading in the right direction?

Business people often do "Feasibility Studies" for new business that they wanted to start. I advise you do that. Have a plan for your business before you start.

Conclusion

I have made mistakes and I don't want you to follow me. When I was starting, I just start building website without thinking ahead. I don't even know what I was doing, I just keep posting contents.

If you found what I said here is wrong, feel free to leave me your comment. Making mistakes is a good way to learn, but if you can avoid the same mistakes and you will reach your goal faster.

I wish you all good luck and be prosper!

You always have good things to say MisterWailor. Thank you!

Thank you.

Excellent advice, MisterWailor! I chose too quickly, but it's working out. Still, I think I have a better one. Once I can write more posts daily, I will start the new site. It is something you DEFINITELY have to put a lot of thought into. Thanks!

Have fun Carla.

Good post Mister Wailor.
I chose my niche because it's something I love doing and I knew I could create content for. There's also been a surge in handicrafts recently particularly in the UK because of a popular tv programme. However, the website titles I looked at had so much competition I had to look for an alternative hence "upcycled". There isn't as many searches but certainly less competition and I have received page 1 and 2 rankings for some of my pages and posts.

Going through the training I now realise I could have more websites, (I have a lot of interests) and my understanding of how to create websites to generate income is increasing with every lesson (love WA). I'll continue with my first website but certainly don't intend it to be my last!

I was just wondering if it is possible for us to create a broader niche like lets say interior designing and set up another content page which we had already break it down from the interior design niche like maybe ceilings. Well the ceiling page will be also in the same website as the interior design. I was thinking like different page with different keywords if it is possible but I am not sure just asking.

Yes, you can do that. So you just start with the ceilings niche first. when you have good traffic, you can slowly include the other elements. Not just one page with ceilings, you have to have a few pages to rank well.

Great, now this is getting more interesting and thanks for the infomation Mister Wailor

I really like this post, Mister Wailor. It has made me realise that I have to change the whole direction of my niche. You have made some seriously good points. Thank you for making me stop and evaluate. Cheers, Di

Thanks for your comment. I am glad you like it.

You have some excellent points here. It's so hard to pick a niche but then breaking it down becomes REALLY painful. I'm guilty as charged here for having a broad niche. Thanks for your insight. ~Debbi

You are welcome. If you have a broad niche, you will need to push hard to get good ranking.
Good luck.

Great advice and something to seriously think about!

I have a personal example for you MrWailor. ...i am an interior designer, but i specialize in art and picture framing....i am working on content for a broader goal but have found that breaking it down into micro niches , it is easier to build piece by piece and i can see it will all pull together one day. I have started with the picture framing as it is my passion and i am confident at it. I will then move onto other niches of interior design as i grow. All your micro niches can accentuate and promote each other, all the while you become known and earn authority on the subject(s) , and confidently build your business!

Even breaking down the picture framing niche into micro-niches has been an exercise..what questions would people be asking about picture framing? What information would be most useful without giving away trade secrets? Where can i find affiliate links for materials customers will need?

Asking friends and families what they would want to know is a great place to start ....at least it will give you an outsiders perspective. When you know something inside and out you tend to take for granted that everyone knows it....but that is usually not the case....hence why they are looking for your information.

Hope this inspires and helps those trying to build a niche....do ask for some input from community if you are stuck or would like to throw around some ideas. We are here to help inspire!

Sunshiny smiles
Amanda
Sorry if that was a bit long winded. ..you inspired me with this blog! Lol

Thanks for your comment. An excellent example of how to put the micro-niche together. Very good example.

Outstanding points. My approach to my websites may be entirely different from most. I do them for me. I am never at a loss for content and when I make a sale it is a bonus. I know the majority of people are looking for information and I want to give them that. And, as you said, it's good to give them what others don't. That's my goal. Thank you very much for this information. All the best to you.

Thanks for your comment. I am glad you like it.

Excellent info as always, Mr. Wailor! Thanks. M
