Does A Band Need A Website?
Whether you're a band musician, or band manager you've probably considered having your own website, but haven't really got round to it..... yet.
There's Soundcloud, Myspace, and Tumblr right!
Yeah you can go ahead and load your info and tracks onto one of those websites or any place similar.
But do you really control all your fans see and listen to?
Don't get me twisted, I'm go to soundcloud to listen to music from my fav local bands too. However I'm far too familiar with what is called Link-Leak - Where I all too often end up listening to something completely different from were started off from!
You can't control what your friends see and listen to if you don't control the space they see listen to it from.
The Internet is littered with stories of people having their content ripped from under their feet, purely because of new 'terms and conditions' statements but nobody agrees with anyway.
YouTube accounts have been banned for promotion, the facts are - if it's free domain very are free to do what they want with your content!
And that you can do something about if you have your own website.
Wondering What To Put On Your Band Website?
For me this is one of the easiest questions to answer what to put on your band's website.
Firstly it's much more than website, it becomes your total online hub, a persona everything from everywhere leads to your website. So Soundcloud, MySpace, Tumbler YouTube can list your website as the main place for contact and hot of the press band information.
You can list gig dates, when you'll be performing, what will be performing any special guests. You can even ask for special request on your website.
The whole promotions deal gets a lot easier when you have your own site. You could find out how many fans would very appreciate T-shirts or baseball caps even!
Along the lines of marketing, one great part of having your own website would be you are able to collect followers email addresses.
We call this list building.. what do you do that list?
EMAIL THEM...!
Send a special message to fans only on your email lists. If you're planning on being popular that list becomes like platinum dust!
Send out emails of new releases, your recommended tunes/bands/gigs. Oh and every now and again you may want to send your list of 4000 email fans a link to buy your latest single, or t-shirt, or album -infact do all 3 just spread the emails out a bit!

You know you can just buy a $9 domain name and have your website hosted here for free right?
Everything I've stated above I learn't how to do here!

Wonderful post Tony! Well put. I have several musician friends that have grown exponentially through their website and Youtube channel. and some I DON'T know personally, but admire. They ave been doing this since 2011 and have received 37million views for many songs! One they did this christmas had 1.6 mil views first 2 days. So yes it does work very well. Unique Presentation, great music, Exceptional branding. They love what they do and it shows in their performance and body of work. Happy New Year!!

As a singer, I absolutely agree with you, in all the points.
And if any musician reading this and thinking about having a website, they should go and read more on your website, too!
I am very satisfied with Wealthy Affiliate and love to work with my other, non-music websites that I created with it.
If I didn't have a music website yet, I would definitely consider signing up with Wealthy Affiliate.
However, - and I hope you will allow me to talk a little bit against it - I would also recommend another webhosting service which was specifically developed for musicians, and by musicians. I have been using http://HostBaby.com for more than 10 years now, and they are just terrific. It has great, unique features for the needs of a band of a solo artist.
It costs $20 a month though, versus the FREE website the Wealthy Affiliate offers.
And they also don't have any referral program, so I am not getting any compensation whatsoever, if someone signs up with HostBaby for my recommendation - but I simply LOVE them, that's why I spread the word.
Most of the bands that don't have a website yet, have probably a limited budget, so going for a free website (or even two) with Wealthy Affiliate sounds like a very good option.
