Affiliate Marketing MY Grumpy Protocol
There's always a buzz around learning affiliate marketing, and there's not a day goes past when I don't see new faces here at Wealthy Affiliate.
Young and old alike are drawn to our learning community, some are quite aware of what we do and are looking for a No Scam opportunity to take their lives into a new direction.
Some have no idea at all what it is we do, they come to fill out surveys or think they get $$ for just being here... I always wonder what message was on the webpage that directed them here in cases like that.
Me
I'm like 'the grumpy old man with a stick' I don't use it for walking , just for flicking bits of debris off the pavement and moaning about the state of the streets. I was once a carefree young fella, but life taught me that care free was for jokers, and only the serious and driven succeed.
I have my own weird protocol that I follow when I see a new face at WA and it goes a little something like this:
Grumpy Old Man Protocol
- Click on image and check out their profile
- Note their join date
- I must read the profile - I do hope it's filled in
- Real name - can be lots of scrolling
- See if I can find anything that tips the scales here
- Look for blog posts or training
- Go back to chat...
What happens in chat purely depends on what I found at their profile page.
If they have taken the time to insert an image it tells me they are reading what's being sent, that's a bonus! The join date usually gives me some indication of what they know of the WA members area. Old or new I'm interested.
Reading a profile, if they've filled it in tells me they are doers and now I get a twinkle in my eye :) I want to connect on a personal level so saying hello to a real person is essential to me in my very first 'welcome' message.
Anything that tips the scales? That's my way of looking underneath the hood and trying to figure out if they have any experience online, any obvious niche ideas that they may lean to etc. I'm trying to be a genie here!
If I see that they've completed a blog post I get super excited and they be real doer's (is that even a real word?) I like doers and those type of peeps I bounce straight over to chat.
That goes a lil something like this, depending on my time available & my mood (I told you grumpy old man)
I say:
"Hiya real name, welcome into WA, just holla if you need any help with anything everyone here has your back"
Then who knows - Maybe we talk maybe we don't but if we do ....
I try to offer as much value as possible without overwhelming them, which I can a little more accurately than I could if I didn't try to get to know them first.
I often drop in something into the conversation that let's them know that I've read their profile too.
Why do I do that?
It's because I want to show them that I'm taking it as serious as they are... That's IF they passed my grumpy old man protocol.
If they've use a series of random numbers for a profile name, well you can bet I ain't too impressed!
Here's The Deal
- It's No Scam
- There's Golden information here
- Making Money online isn't magic
- You just need to follow the path that's been set out
- When you need to get some help
- Search for it in that big search box at the top or just ask us
- We're happy to help if you're a doer!

I don't know about Grumpy but then, I filled out my profile(back in the day).
I don't even follow people that don't fill out their profile. But once they do I fully engage with them.
Hey there Grumpy! :) I have never known you to be grumpy. You've been nothing but kind to me.
That's why it's best to have an open heart and love care free .. once married it's all over!
Hi Tony!
I'm glad you're a grumpy old man ;)
I'm glad I passed the test lol. And your approach is great. I never feel overwhelmed when I ask and receive advice from you.
Thank you for all you do !
Angela
Lol, well said, Tony! I haven't been adding my two cents in much at all for awhile now, been too busy to read many blogs here, but I agree with you. Those that add at least a short bio and an image of some sort, I consider more serious about learning here and succeeding...after all, they followed the directions to get those done.
Love the grumpy old man images, BTW! :) -Sherry
I have never had a complaint on anything you have so kindly done for me in the past and I know I never will in the future. It is a simple fact that my site would be nothing like it is if I had not found Mr Grumpy and I have conveyed this fact to many that you will never realise. The truth today my friend is we are in big trouble and disappointed that I have not earnt anything but I know it is no one's fault but mine. Stay well my friend and keep being the Grumpy helper to those who you feel deserve your help
You are just so quick. Now I have find what you have done lol Another nice surprise coming up for me
Good one!
I check the profiles too and would love it if people would use their real name. In chat I like to address people by their name, having to jump back and forward to find it in the profile is time consuming!
You've never sounded grumpy to me btw! :)
You nailed it Tony. PS: I've never seen you grumpy. You've always been kind and friendly to me.
Aren't you a bit young to have a grumpy old man protocol, lol! I really enjoyed your post!! :) Christa :)
