When nobody around you believes in what you do

Hi my friends,

Today I want to talk about a topic that may be a little bit personal. It's about how it feels when no one around you supports or believes in what you do.

In my case, nobody in my family or my closest friends is an entrepreneur, and none of them is interested in the online business world. They believe in formal education and working hard for someone else to make a living and I understand it because they've been used to it all their lives and the world is continuously changing. They believe that it's possible to make a living online but only people who are already professionals in something, what is not my case. They think I have my head in the clouds when I talk about my excitement for WA and for the online world because they expected that I would go to college and then look for a job.

I actually went to college but I left it because I felt that the degree I was studying (architecture) was not for me. I felt bad about myself because I had disappointed my family and didn't know what to do since I had (and still have) multiple interests and didn't want to start another degree and quit again. I'm grateful that a month later after leaving college, I had the opportunity to start a 2-year-training course in international trade, and 4 months ago I graduated and I also finished an internship.

Last year at this time I was thinking about going to college or looking for a job after graduating, but I was already searching if it was possible to make money online even though I was so skeptical because of frauds. I remember coming across Wealthy Affiliate but I didn't join because I was at the point where I thought everything was a scam, I thought that only experts were the ones who earned money online and I also thought that WA was only for English speaking people (I'm Spanish).

I started going to networking events and joined a MLM (Amway) and I really liked the environment but I was bad at recruiting and couldn't purchase products each month so I ended up quitting but I'm thankful that I learned about entrepreneurship and it opened my eyes to all the possibilities we have nowadays, then I was sure that I didn't want to work for someone else.

In March I came across Wealthy Affiliate again and after doing my research I decided to give it a try, since I hadn't read any negative review and it was (and still is) free to join. I'm very happy that I joined and I went premium, even though it has not been after graduation that I can spend more time here and working on my website.

My family don't like the path I've chosen and don't believe that I can succeed, they believe that very few people succeed. Whenever I'm feeling down I doubt myself and I'm like "What if they're right and I should go to college or look for a job?", I'm also afraid of the consequences of failure, it's not about how it would affect me, it's about how it would affect them because I know they want the best for me and I love them so much. However, I know it's possible for everyone to succeed as long as you have a purpose, like what you do and put in the work.

Do you ever feel this way? Anyway you're very patient if you've read it all lol.

Have a fabulous weekend everybody =)

People around me are the same, although they do not really know what I am doing. It gives me inspiration to prove them wrong. however, I only have to prove it to myself that I can do it. You only fail here when you stop, go on and you will succeed!

Yes, it's so true that we're the ones we have to prove to that we can achieve success in what we do.

Best wishes to you =)

I deal with this also, and the way I deal with it is simply to believe that God gave me gifts and talents that are unique to me,and if people close to me don't feel the same way that's THEIR problem ,not mine.I will not conform to the mold that someone else is trying to put me in because in the end my life will be defined by MY actions, not the actions of those close to me.
I also know that anyone can have a full time job and still create websites here at WA,it just becomes a bit more challenging because of how we have to manage our time.
Now I'm not sure from your post if you want to make affiliate marketing your full time job,but whatever you do,have faith in God first, believe in yourself and your abilities, and have the courage to continue seeking success on your own terms.

When I discovered WA I went Premium fairly soon after that because I saw it for what it is,a great place to learn this skill without having to pay thousands of dollars.
Try explaining this to your family. They obviously value education and knowledge, and if they see the value of the education you are getting here at WA they might be more supportive of you and your goals.

I totally agree with you. We have to do what we love no matter what others say, nobody should dictate how to live our lives.
I don't have a part time job but I work like 7 hours a week for someone else, so I spend the most part of my time here at WA and on my website. I definitely want to make internet marketing a full time job. And same here, when I joined I went premium in less than a premium and became a yearly member. I explained them how WA works and I also showed them how's everything inside the community, but they're not convinced, maybe because it's not something they're used to but hope everything goes better as time passes.

I wish you much success =)

Buena suerte senorita.

Hi Miren, I have my doubters yet and I am retired and almost 60! My family is afraid I am wasting my time doing things yet they love that I am happy and excited about working here...go figure!

The whole situation you are in is tough but remember, no matter what' it is your life to lead and you have to do what makes you happy and what you truly believe you will be successful doing.

. When you show them what you can do they will back you up. If you need money until then you can work part time..

I wish you all the best!

Keith

I agree with you! I'm actually working some hours a week (not even part time), so I dedicate the most part of my time to WA and my website. I think my major obstable is procrastination and focus, I get distracted so easily :(

All the best =)

Hi Miren,

I totally understand the lack of support and acknowledgement from family and friends.

I now have a new partner who also wants to do the same things as me, and in fact she mentioned the possibility of an online income and here we are, working together.

The feeling between the two is so much different, it is magical.

Your battle is made difficult because of the negativity, and it is hard to work in this situation BUT you CAN do it, you need to be disciplined and focussed.

You will find someone who supports you (whether it is partner or friend, doesn't matter) and things will improve, just work on it.

Steve

It's great that y'all are working together! It helps a lot to have someone close to you who has a similar mindset and goals as you. I struggle with focus, maybe because there's a lot to do and get distracted easily...

All the best =)

Nice, awesome as well as bold post. I commend you! Follow your heart... not everyone will believe in your aspiration. Make them ultimately ask you how you did it. As you stated, family does want whats best for you, but so do you. They may not see what you see, but thats ok as well.

Glad you liked it :) To be honest, I didn't know if writing about it or not because I'm not the type to talk about this kind of topics to people I don't know. And yes, I think they don't believe in it because they don't know any online entrepreneur personally.

Blessings :)

You are in the right place Miren. I'm sure you heard all the ruckus the last several years about the 1% vs. the 99%. There is also the 80/20 rule. You have made moves that will put you in the smaller percentages. So if you have 100 close friends and family, just be aware that probably less than 20 of them will understand you and support you. However here in WA you will have the support of thousands.

Yes, I've heard of the 1% vs the 99% and the 80/20 rule, I think it says that the 80% of our results comes from the 20% of our efforts.

Cheers =)

This sounds so much like my own experience in life. Just like you I've failed several attempts at making my own way in this world.

My family is the traditional "work hard for somebody else" type and wouldn't understand this opportunity that we have either.

But guess what, the important thing to remember is that YOU understand the opportunity, not them. After all, it's your life you are living.

Work hard, be persistent and go after your dreams! One day you will be able to show your family that you didn't just have your head in the clouds :)

Right, I totally agree with you! Just need to be faithful and keep on going.

Have a fabulous day =)

A very familiar story Miren. There are times I think when all of us feel like quitting but with your amazing attitude you will find a way to make it work. One of our members, Tyrell is working with his wife on a project using the lessons here at WA. They are making Cup Cakes & selling them, working out the profit & scaling up... Maybe that is something you could do to show your family that it is possible to combine the two areas. Keep up the good work :)

Thanks for telling me! I told my parents what we do here and told them how they could take advantage of it but they are a little bit skeptical about the online world in general.

Best wishes :)

Hi, Miren. It is hard to make people understanding that we have their best concern. This is something you may have to do on your, but guess what we have over 600,000 members here that are feeling the way. I mean not sad or lost just waiting to share and help you. Please contact us if need any thing.

Best Wishes,
Sam&Iris;

Yes! This community is the most helpful and interactive I've ever seen =)

All the best

Hello Miren, do not let anyone destroy your dream and vision. Not everyone is an entrepreneur and are happy to work for someone else. It is easier to collect a pay check than to create your own business and income. We are in the age of continual learning, which means that you should not throw college out the window, what you learn from it will be helpful in managing and operating your online business.

Yes, I agree with you. Everything we learn is helpful in someway!
