Have you heard of the new YouTube monetization policy?

Hey guys,

Even though I don't have a YouTube channel, I believe the new YouTube monetization policy is kind of unfair, as it's going to make it harder for small youtubers to make money.

The new rule states that only channels with over 1000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months will be able to earn money through the YouTube Partner Program. They say this is going to be implemented next month.

I got to know about this after seeing an Instagram story of a WA member named Sarah (@BelieveItYes).

I would understand this rule if they only took into account channels that don't upload content regularly or channels that upload not valuable content. But people who actually create interesting and helpful content don't deserve this.

In the case of Sarah this is so unfair because she dedicates a lot of time to her makeup videos. I believe she deserves more credit and subscribers. She's really talented.

I found out this petition and signed it to prevent YouTube from implementing this new policy. Here's the link if you want to sign it: https://www.change.org/p/youtu...

Have a great day everyone!

Miren

Hello Miren, this is the first I have heard of this. I have been thinking over the past few weeks of creating videos on YouTube. Not necessarily to generate money, which would not hurt, but to introduce visitors to my website, where I hope they will convert to buyers.

Damn Google and YouTube for their greedy tricks and profits

Actually google owns youtube :) so theyre the same company.. but yeah i totally agree with u especially when someone is trying to do affiliate marketing through adwords.. google is just simply a cancer when it comes to affiliate marketing!

Makes it harder for the small to get bigger.

Yeah, it's not only discouraging for those who don't meet the requirements, it's also discouraging for those who are just starting out

I wonder if the new FCC ruling has had any influence on these types of decisions. It's something I really don't understand but is seems like all of social media is making changes since. Inquiring minds want to know.

That is interesting. I honestly was only vaguely aware of how people could make money on YouTube. Now even that has changed. The only thing constant is change, as they say.

Right, change is always happening, even if it's slow.

Use youtube for traffic:)

This is for people who have a site or blog as there are people who only rely on YouTube or other social media.

I did read that yesterday. That is going to affect a lot of these YouTube marketers. Before I found wealthy affiliate I did some researching on other methods and there is one guy (I won't mention any names), but he is heavy into youtube videos. About 2 months ago he just came out with a course on monetizing YouTube and I believe his asking price for the course was in the $900 dollar range. I feel sorry for those who bought that course and now find out the mountain to youtube success has just got much larger.

Sure glad I settled here at WA

Then I believe this guy should update the course or include something else that justifies the price.

He's gonna be getting a lot of refund requests if he doesn't.
But even if he updates it there is going to be a backlash because of the stiffer requirements for monetization.

I hadn't heard of this but I know quite a few people who use it to promote themselves and it will have a big impact on them for sure.
All of The social media channels are useful but you cannot rely upon them. They change their rules with the wind.
With Grace and Gratitude

I agree, that's why it's important to have your own site/blog instead of only relying on social networks.

I read this earlier today Miren. Apparently their explanation is to cut down on spamming. Following FB's example. The answer is a mixed batch of different SM promotion!

Hopefully they don't end up applying it

I think this is very noble on your behalf, but these things usually fall on deaf ears...

Yeah, unfairly

I totally agree with you, Miren.
