I am having a lot of issues with the menu step right now. When I watch the video I can see that under the menu name is the "menu structure" with a home and privacy policy box.

Hey Miranda,

Based on what you've told me, here is what i've done.

Assuming that you already have pages / posts you wish to use as menu items, and Using TwentySeventeen as an example theme, to add menu items:

1) Click on Appearance on the left side of your dashboard, then go to Menus. Note that by default this theme uses a dummy menu, which is immediately deleted or replaced when trying to edit it (thus, why it seems to disappear).

2) On this screen, there will be no previous menu available for editing. You will need to give your new menu a name (anything is fine, only you see this), then click "Create Menu". From here you can start editing the menu contents.

3) In menu settings, make sure that "TOP MENU" is checked. The twentySeventeen theme does not have a "home" page by default, however this can be set at a later time. The menu to the left of "Menu Structure" shows "Pages", "Posts", "Custom Links", and "Categories". Check the box for each item that you wish to add, and click "Add to menu".

4) Once you have your menu items set, click on "Save Menu"

5) From this point, click on the "Manage Locations" tab and make sure that the top menu dropdown has your new menu selected if it isn't. Click on Save

6) Your menu should now be present in your site!

Let me know if this worked for you. If not, I'll try to assist further, but I need to first take my son to his daycare teacher meeting.

I finally got it to work :) Thank you so much for your help!

Hey Miranda,

Here's a really great tutorial to help you do that: Hope you find this helpful.

Hi

I am not a expert but I think that you will find your menu setting in the appearance section on your dashboard.

Try that

I hope this helps

I clicked the button to make a space break on accident and now I cant get rid of it. I don't want to see the line there but cant go back. Why is there no go back button? HELP!<

Hi Miranda

Try "control Z". It's the shortcut key for undo.

Also always a good idea to create your posts in Site Content and publish from there.

Well, I am pretty new to this as well and not sure if this is the very best way to go about it, but if you have published it then you can easily log into your website WordPress dashboard and edit your post from there.

How can I go back if I messed up typing my about me?

I"m at the point where its asking me if I want a "free domain, i own a domain, register domain". The thing is, I don't know which one to choose. Can someone tell the the differ

If you do not have a domain as yet, the easiest option here is to choose a free domain. This will get you started with a website on the siterubix domain eg. mirandaswebsite.siterubix.com.

The other option you can choose if you don't have a domain as yet is to register a domain name. This will get you a .com domain something like mirandaswebsite.com.

Note that you can start with the first option and later move it to the second option easily so you don't have to spend any money to get a website up right away.

The other option (I own a domain) is for if you already have a .com domain that you would like to use to build your website. If this is the case then choose this option.

Hi Miranda

An owned domain is a powerful trust signal both for search engines and your readers. And it's highly recommended to use a .com extension

An owned .com domain is the "trademark" of a trustworthy business.

A free domain (e.g. siterubix) or a .net .org domain is the "trademark" of a hobby site ...

What is the difference between websites?
