I was just curious since I am at that point with my site where my whole focus is on drawing traffic. What has your best traffic strategy been. Maybe we can learn from one an

Content is king, of course. Write engaging unique content and then share it out. So, after I write, I promote each article heavily on my social media platforms. I get over 100 visits a day just from Twitter.

Yes content is definitely king. Most people (including me) forget to promote after writing. I read one of Neil Patel's posts where he says he puts 75% of his efforts (I hope I got that number right) into promoting his content. Something I need to start doing too! Thanks.

Yep, exactly!

Well for me forums are just days of enless discussions that go nowhere same as all the social options - I think that to blog three times a week will draw traffic also have just done two videos and a leader 80 views after two days

Waiting on that next video bro! ;-)

Number three will be made tomorrow

Awesome. Video is something I haven't tried yet. Thanks for the tip Paul.

I was just curious and would like to know what everyone's opinion is on this. Do you think your site would perform better if you wrote shorter posts but posted everyday, or if

I post 4 to 5 times a week with 600 to 800 words and I am still at 100%

I have a mix you can test it out and see which one attracts more attention it is about the quality of the content and relevance

Good question. This was the subject of a previous post and the consensus was - short posts are more likely to be read through provided your thoughts can be clearly conveyed.

A number of contributors mentioned that they word count and sometimes use padding to reach their target word count.

I think the answer is - it depends on how good a writer you are. Some writes can grab your attention and carry you through to the final full stop with no problem regardless of the word count.

I am a believer in quality content as for the periodicity, It is important to keep a constant publishing schedule for your blog. For example, if you choose to publish only once a week you should publish your content every chosen day (ex: every Monday if this suits you).

Thanks! Makes sense.

Write what ever works for you - consistency is the key so that readers know what to expect and when.

Shorter posts by themselves struggle to rank unless you are a really well established site, but add videos or other relevant media to improve your chances.

Older advice will tend to say 500 words or more but this is from a time when blogs were typically only 200-300 words so 500 was considered a longer post. Nowadays 1,000 is pretty standard and has replaced the 500 word advice.

such great advice. I have really been struggling with the 1000 words on a particular site. I find the topic boring and repetitive and felt like I could write more frequently if It didn't have to be so long :(

Quality every time, no matter how long :)

Yes! Yes! Yes! Quality makes a great difference. Thanks JudeP!

The ones in the know will tell you that it isn't the length of a post, it is the quality. Some also say to vary the length of posts. What I have heard over and over is that content, quality content will bring the public to your site.

Jude is one of those in the know members!!!

Thanks! Great tip. I would like to be good with Google too otherwise, sometimes I feel on certain topics, less would be more engaging to my visitors.

There are some topics you just can't make more than 500 words. It is silly to try and pad an article with other stuff, readers will notice.

Very true. Will definitely keep this in mine when writing! Thanks again.

my mentor here at wealthy affiliate recommended the 2nd option. I have written 1-2 shorter posts (below or around 500 words) and 1 longer - above 1350 words. Not sure which one would rank better as I still do not rank :)
But it is a good question and I will keep an eye on the answers.

Thanks for responding. I hear the same thing, I just wonder is sometimes I can get away with less content - Lol!

well I think that content is always king but if the post is longer I think it would rank better in google. What I've been told is: "try to help your users the best way you can covering all you think is relevant". So maybe with that in mind and trying to cover all the angles, the longer post comes out naturally. We'll see :D
All the best to you :)

After everything that I learn about building my website is content, Some experts says publish content 2 a week with more words over 1000-1500.That's sound pretty good, But some experts bloggers say you can post less word of 500 this is better. It confusing and there are a lot of members here in WA that write content of 3000 or more. But I just write my content in the best way possible. Sometimes is it's shorter and more frequently in other cases sometimes my content is longer and it may a take a couple of days to publish, Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Anthony - great advice. Follow your gut eh? I guess that's just what I'd do :)

You're welcome I would say take time,

Seriously, I have never really understood what a no-follow link is and how it impacts your website. Does anyone know?

A regular "DoFollow" link from an authority site will "pass on" some of that authority or "trust flow" to your site. This is optimum. But, due to abuse over the years, many websites have gone to "NoFollow" links. Regardless though, you need a diversity of your backlinks. NoFollow AND DoFollow, along with "naked" links, brand links and so on. If you only had "Follow" links pointing to you, Google would know something weird is going on. It's simply not natural for a website to grow in that manner.

Thanks so much. This makes it so much clearer. I am curious still though, when setting up pretty links, should I make those links do follow or no follow - Does it even matter?

Those are "generally" affiliate links and I use no-follow. But, they won't matter much as Google knows what they are and devalues them.

I DO recommend linking out to some authority sites within each article. Two or three. This shows your article as a "resource" in Google's eyes.

Thanks again. And yet again I have a new question. Hopefully the last one on this topic. Would you use the affiliate links on the same page you are linking out to the authority sites in. Also would you link out to authority sites on every post or just a few posts. Thanks so much for your answers thus far!

Yes, I usually link to an authority site (or two... or three) first, then drop an affiliate link underneath somewhere. And, yep, I do it on nearly every article.

Ok! Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Anytime!

Here's an explanation from Google:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/96569
Basically it tells search engines not to crawl those links.
More details in the article.
Hope that helps

Thanks so much. Quite helpful!

Hi, I was just curious, can non members purchase domains from Site Domains - or is this just available to members? I am asking because I am voluntarily building a website for

Anyone (including non-members) can purchase a domain name here. As with any registrar they have to set up an account (they become a free member).

There is no charge for setting up an account to purchase a domain name.

If they purchase a domain name through your referral link then you get $1 commission.

Thanks!

I just did a pretend run as if I was a non-member and can see that non-members would have to create a free WA account in order to use SiteDomains. They don't have to make use of the WA training or any other features, they can just solely use SiteDomains. There would be no hosting, email or support features though unless they sign up for premium, but it does include privacy features.

To be honest, one would have to create an account to get a domain name from any registrar (e.g GoDaddy, Namecheap etc), so it makes sense that WA would do the same.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the response. I agree but in the past (a lonnnggg) time ago. I would build websites for clients and submit their account info to them. No ties whatsever. I dI'd use godaddy a lot by the way. In this case, they can't have access to the domain account info since it will be mine. To do so on their own they will have to go premium and pay the fee? This is something they have no interest in doing. And that is my question really. I just want to patronize site domains but if it is not possible no problems. Will go else where. Thanks for offering help though.

Hi Mimi, I see what you're saying. In answer to your question, they wouldn't actually have to be a premium member to purchase a domain. They can just create a free WA account and go to the SiteDomains tab and purchase it from there. When I did the pretend run earlier I just went through the process with a free account and all seemed fine (the only thing I didn't do was make the payment). There are just a few things they won't get such as email, support, and hosting when using the free WA account, but they could just host the website on other hosting providers such as Namecheap.

But if it's easier they could just use another domain registrar.

Thanks again. This is a great insight. I'll see what works. Will definitely let you know.

No problem. Hope you find one that works.

I would think so since WA is on the market to offer domains for purchase like namecheap or godaddy without being a member.

Sylvia

That's what I thought. I need to research and little deeper before going else where. Thanks for the help!

Domain names are only for premium members. Starter members get a site with a subdomain like mysite.siterubix.com
I see that you are already a Premium member so you can create a site for them here and buy the domain here as well. Then simply give them the Wordpress login if they wish to edit/manage their site. They don't need to have any knowledge of WA.

Great tip and thanks for responding to my question. The only problem is that I just didn't want to have any continuity of responbility past building the site. Such as domain renewals etc.

Oh I see, well you can always purchase the domain from a third party like GoDaddy and have it billed to your client, then just have that domain point to the WA site. That way you can build the site here, give the Wordpress login to them so they have no knowledge of WA and the domain bills will go to them.

Awesome advice. Will do. Thanks for the help.

No problem. I think I remember seeing posts about other people doing the exact same thing. They charge for the website but they build it in WA but they have no knowledge that it was built here because the client only has WordPress access. Maybe try doing a search in the search bar and you might find these people and can try contacting them on what they are doing but I'm pretty sure what I mentioned before works.. Good luck!

Thanks. I am sure it should work!

I have a website that I need the name completely changed. I am sure it is possible to do so, but how do I go about this?

If you are referring to the domain name, I'm so sorry that cannot be changed. But what you can do is write what you like on the "title" of your website to define what your website is all about. Simply go the your dashboard, scroll down to "Setting" and look for your "Site Title" in the general settings. I hope this helps. Enjoy!

Hi Mimi, I had a URL that didn't match my content. I transfered the content from a siterubix to a domain. It has been a while. I had to do a 401 redirect. The old url still pops up but now and then but not attached to the content as that is permanently transfered.

Marty

Great tip Marty. I think I will try a redirect. Thanks for responding.

I hope it helps and that it works out for you.

Thanks!

It might be a 301 redirect. I might have got the numbers mixed.

Hi Mimi, like others have said, Unfortunately you won't be able to change the domain name, you'll have to purchase a new domain.

You are right, I give up. Would just start afresh :(

Hi mimi

Hi there!

Once you do change the name. Don't just paste in old content from the old site. Start fresh. If you don't it will look like you copied it. Poor rankings follow.

Buy the new name, start fresh. You'll be fine.

That's my fear! Luckily I don't have any posts up yet, just 3 theme pages. I most likely would have to follow your advice and start fresh. Thanks for the response!

Hi Mini , don't think you can change the name of your website now.
You have to buy another one.

Thanks JKhatri. I did buy a new one, I guess I wasn't very clear with my question. I was wondering if it was possible to use the new domain name with the website, in other words, can I possibly point the servers to WA, back-up the original site to my laptop and upload to a new site? Am I even making sense :(

Hi Mimi, if you already bought a domain, you will need to buy anotherone if you want a different name for your domain.

Thanks Mario. Yes, I have purchased a new domain, just wondering if I can put transfer this new domain name to replace my old domain name?
