I have tried things mentioned on WA, and I have tried things I found on Web search, but nothing works, and Most of what I find when I go to places in Appearance editor such as P

The way I was able to fix all of those was to go through Google Webmaster tools, go to search appearance and use the data highlighter and mark up tools.

Thanks for the info. I will try anything!!

I have tried a few things, but nothing works. I need to upload XML file to prove ownership of website to Bing. I tried Wordpress import, but no success. It says needs to be W

Thanks everyone. My problem has been taken care of. Best of Luck to Everyone!

Here was my fix to that situation if you are using wordpress.
Go to your Plugins and search for Google xml sitemap. All you have to do is Activate it.

After that, when you add your sitemap to google, just put "sitemap.xml in the box.

It has been working out really well for me!

Thanks for your advice. I will try it.

Sometime the .xml file can get corrupt in downloading, try downloading again and mouse over the file and make sure it does not say
"Size 0"

Hi.

You should be able to just upload the xml file using FileZilla - it doesn't need imported anywhere - just to exist on your website.

However, if you're having trouble with that, you could use the meta verification method.

For that, Bing will give you a line of code similar to:

<meta name="msvalidate.01" content="AA48BC......9A9C" />

You can copy that, and go to Appearance -> Editor - and select the header.php file from the right hand side.

Then just after the first <head> tag - paste in the <meta> tag - so it should look similar to:

<html>
<head>
<meta name="msvalidate.01" content="AA48BC......9A9C" />
<title>Your title</title>

If you then Save/Update the file - and then go back to Bing, and click on the Verify button - then you should be verified in Bing.

I hope that helps?

Cheers, Mark

Thanks for your advice. I will try it.

you do not need to do that with WP.If you are using All in One SEO there is option to prove ownership easier
Go to All In One SEO>General Settings and scroll down to verification settings.

Use Code provided for Meta tags

Thanks for your advice. I will try it.

Are you sorted now?

Yes, Thank you. I managed to learn the way to prove ownership to Bing and Google

How to upload an XML document to my website so that I can verify ownership of my website to Bing?

Hi Michael, I am having the same problem right now. I couldn't use filezullia either and I can't get my site verified after I moved it to my own domain. You said your problem was taken care of. Can you PLEASE tell me how you did it.

I am trying to get verified with google not bing though

SuzetteH, After you put in WA DNS at wherever you bought Domain at, if the New Domain account is not working, Try clicking the Refresh Icon at the bottom of the said account when you are in SiteRubix Site manager. Many times that can help with things. I have never had a problem moving my SiteRubix to a Domain that I bought. I have just helped many others that had problems with the Move. Hope the Refresh helps! Now I used a Website that helped me in the beginning when I had problems with Webmaster Verification. Some say the Site I use is confusing, but it worked for me. I will give you the Website I used, and you can see if it helps you. If any of it confuses you, please let me know. Hope for the best!

SuzetteH, oops, you are talking about a problem I had 4 months ago. I looked at my comment, and I honestly can not remember what the exact problem was that I was having, but as far as the Google and Bing/Yahoo verification part, the Website I gave you is what helped me. Everything else I guess I figured out. The better details I get, the better I can help you with exact individual things!
Michael

Thanks Michael, I will try this tomorrow. I am frustrated and tired. Every time I try to verify it says to upload a file and I don't know how to do that. i will let you know what happens. Thank you for your help and your continued support.

SuzetteH, I do not upload a File. I do the "alternative methods" where I copy the Meta Tag. The website I gave will help you know which part of the Meta Tag to Copy. Then I paste it in the Webmaster Verification in Wordpress which is in the All in one SEO. I scroll down to find it. I hope after you get some rest things work out better for you!
Michael

Michael, I love you, I love you, I love you!! After all that time I spent yesterday. Geez. It worked and my site is now verified! You are the MAN. Thank you so very much!

SuzetteH, Thank you. That is very sweet of you to say. I am just glad I was able to help. Look forward to more of your progress!

Thanks everyone. My problem is taken care of!

I tried Filezilla, but it keeps saying File does not contain any importable information, and I tried Wordpress import, but it will not import it either. It says This file does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version #. Confused when it says it will import XML files. I am stuck trying to get things uploaded to my website so that can continue with Indexing and ranking with Bing/Yahoo. Maybe then I can continue in trying to do the same with Google. I do not know a thing about trying to prove ownership with Meta Tags. Any help would be appreciated!

Actually, you don't need to use FTP at all. Sorry for steering you down that path.

Are you using the All in One SEO plugin? If so, click on its "General Settings" menu item. Scroll way down the page and you'll find a box labeled "Webmaster Verification". Inside that, there's an entry box for Google Webmaster Tools. Paste the code that you got from google into that box. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on "Update Options" to put the change into effect.

The process is described here: http://semperplugins.com/sections/webmaster-verification/

The XML files that Wordpress exports and imports contain your pages and posts in a specific format (the WXR file format). Since regular XML files, such as your google verifier file, aren't written in that format, Wordpress can't import them.

Thank you for the new information. It helped nicely!

This was so helpful. Thanks bob

While there may be other ways that I'm not aware of, you can always use your site's FTP access to upload it.

1) From tha WA home page, click on "Build My Site" and then click on "Details" for that particular site. Doing that will give you the user name and password for the FTP access.

2) Do you already have an FTP client on your machine? If not, you can download the program Filezilla for free. (It's a very popular program and you can easily find tutorials online on how to use it.)

3) Start Filezilla (or your own FTP program) and make the FTP connection using ftp://your sitename.com for the server address and type the user name/password from the "Details" section in those fields.

4) Browse to and select the XML file on your computer that you want to upload. Click on the "Upload" button to upload the file to your site.

Thank you very much for your answer. I will let you know if I succeed. Best of Luck to you in all your time here on WA!
