The Journey Doesn't Have a Destination - It's a PROCESS

Hey guys, today I wanted to talk to you about an important idea or concept that I employ in my day to day life (and one that's changed quite recently).

You know when I first began my journey into fitness and personal development, I always used to have this "end goal" or "destination" in my mind, in the back of my head, but I realised that this just isn't the case.

The Idea that there is a "Destination" is Erroneous (at least to me)

When I think of success, and achieving everything I want to achieve, it's really easy to get discouraged if you aren't yet where you want to be.

But I wish to "invite you today" (Elliott Hulse has always said this!) to think of this from a different perspective: We are on the journey, and this journey will never end.

I truly believe that everyone that has joined WA here had a similar aim in mind - to create a better life for themselves, or to make a little extra money (or insert whatever the reason is that you joined here).

When I speak of a "destination" I mean finally reaching that level you set out to. And believe me, it will happen for sure. I just believe it's not in the way in which we envision it.

You Won't Just Wake Up One Day Successful

Think of, for example, bodybuilding. These guys showed up in the gym to do the work on a daily basis in order to 'build' their bodies. Yes, build. They didn't just magically create a solid physique out of thin air. Their bodies were built gradually over time, getting a little stronger and a little bit bigger every day along the way.

This is the same way I think about success (whatever success is to you). You do small things every day that culminate over a given period, slowly but surely.

If your end goal is to become financially independent, well you're not just going to go from zero dollars, zero dollars, zero dollars to all of a sudden on day 734 to five thousand dollars per month [Radu Antoniu from ThinkEatLift].

No, on day 122 maybe you'll be at 200 dollars, on day 276 you'll be at 800 dollars, on day 344 you will be at 1600 dollars and finally on day 734 you will eventually be at 5000 dollars. You will not just wake up one day to 5000 dollars per month (unless some crazy, miraculous situation arose which is incredibly unlikely).

Instead, we must celebrate our small successes each day in order to remain focused on the journey instead of a finish line.

My Finish Line = Financial Independence

Financial independence to me is being able to do what I love on a daily basis and make enough money doing so to support my life comfortably.

For me, this means not going to a place of employment for myself - unless it is my own employment (blogging, YouTube etc).

But with each small little success I have each day I will get closer and closer to this goal - and guess what - when I am "financially free" I will still be in the process of becoming more free. I.e. scaling my income in order to generate as much as possible.

I don't know if this post is making any sense, but I would truly ask for everyone to leave their thoughts on this!

I would love to hear from you guys about what it is you want to achieve and if you consider it to be your "end game" with a certain finish point.

What do you guys think of this?

Hi Mike, I know that I have mentioned this before elsewhere, so I apologise for repeating myself! I have been astounded since I have been starting and setting up my online business of the number of people who ask me... 'Have you finished that website yet?' 'You should be making good money by now.' 'You need to be concentrating on making the money.'??!

Even my 'techie' friends, everyone's an expert on t'internet and marketing! But, my point is, I ran a successful offline business for many years and not once can I remember, with all the people I encountered at that time, anyone asking me these questions!

Back on topic, I totally agree that this should be viewed as a process. My answer to these questions is always... I will never have finished my website / business, I will always be evolving with my niche requirements and customers needs! And also look forward to moving onwards and upwards, Sue :)

Wow ... well said Mike!

Thanks Trish!
