Hi Great WA Community!

A quick note and update: I just wanted to thank everyone in this awesome WA Community who reached out to those of us who were in the path of hurricane Ian here in Florida (or sent me a pm).

Luckily for me...the storm has now passed, and we were lucky.

No damage, no lost power, no flood, and right now, it is just drizzling and breezy by me here now. … unfortunately, those just a few short miles south of Tampa in southeast Florida around the Fort Myers, Sarasota, and North Port areas were not as lucky.

Those areas were hit very badly. Orlando and the Daytona Beach region on the east coast were also hit hard, as seen in the images below.

Ian is still pounding Florida in '500-year flooding event.'

These few images say it all:

... too many others to show, but you get the idea, and I'm sure you'll see many others in the news as folks begin to dig out.

Thank you, WA Community, for caring!

-Mike

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear you survived Hurricane Ian. I dread to think as the hours and days wear on what more horrors the people will find. We hear Ian is not done yet as it is headed to the Carolinas.

I found a YouTube video made by a family on vacation at Disney's The Magic Kingdom. By comparison, the damage there was minimal compared to Ft. Myres and Naples. When I saw the devastation on the News this evening, I could not imagine what those residents are going through having lost everything.

What makes this even worse is that over 80% of the homeowners didn't have flood insurance. I like the idea that websites have been set up for donations to help those families.

I fear that this kind of disaster is going to become the norm in the years to come. Just like the wildfires in the West. And tornadoes in Tornado Alley in the middle of the continent. Increased heat builds up energy that makes disasters even worse than they used to be.

Stay safe Mike.

Edwin

Thank you Edwin….the pics from the Ft Meyers area is devastating - and I only live a few short hours away. It’s just scary.

I saw a pic of an area we went on vacation and it’s almost leveled!

When I see these pics and those of the outer barrier islands — it eerily reminds me of Super Storm Sandy in NY when we lived there.

I agree with that our weather has just been more intense across the board, and I fear it’s only going to get worse over time if we do not address our atmosphere.

Anyway, thank you for the prayers!

-Mike

Thoughts with you and everyone in Florida and Nova Scotia / PEI - I know the photos do not convey the worst of it or what it feels like to stand there in the middle of all that destruction. Hoping the clean up and and rebuild will be swifter than Katrina and everyone will be back in their homes, safe.

Luckily our area missed a direct hit, those in the Ft Myers area, just a few short hours away, is total destruction.

Thank you for the well wishes.

-Mike

Hey Mike,

Praise God that you are safe and that no damages were sustained to your property. I have been praying for everyone affected by Hurricane Ian.

I can certainly feel everyone's fear, shock, losses, and devastation. I have property on the Turks & Caicos Islands and every year I feel all the same anxieties.

My thoughts and prayers continue for those who have lost so much and more yet to come.

Monica

Thank you Monica….I too feel bad about those that lost so much — and will be making a donation to them shortly. It’s the least that I can do.

-Mike

Nice! God Bless you and please stay safe. 🙏

Thank you so much for the well wishes and prayers.

I was wondering about you, I am glad you are ok. I am watching fox news about Hurricane Ian now up north. Concerned for my Deaf friends at the Deaf school in St. Augustine area. Hope they are okay.

Thank you so much Brenda! I hope that your friends are all ok.

-Mike

Very glad you made it through that storm. Any storm with wind and rain is a rough thing to endure. Hope damage was minimum.

Thank you

Thank goodness you're safe and sound, Mike. Those photos say it all! My parents used to winter in FM and I've spent a lot of time there. It's so devastating to see all this. My heart breaks for all those who have lost everything. Take care of yourself.

Thank you…and I also pray for those that need to rebuild.

Happy to hear that you weren't as badly hit as predicted in the Tampa Bay area Mike...

But my thoughts and prayers go out to those who were not so fortunate..

Take care my friend...

Thank you!

I pray for those that need to rebuild.

-Mike

As do I my friend..

Good to hear you are ok! It looked pretty crazy on the news last night. I pray for anyone that was in the direct line of this storm and for quick recovery.
