Google+ and Authorship do help rankings
I wrote an article yesterday about finding good keywords. This was a deliverable in the bootcamp where we are to write an article on keyword research and link it to our review of Jaaxy. I posted it also to social media as per norm.
Out of curiousity I did a search on Google today to see where this article ranked on some of my keywords I used in the article itself.
I was stunned to see it ranked number 2 for one keyword and on first page for two others. What I found interesting was that the keywords used to rank it 2nd and on page one showed the post on G+ which points to my site from there. Also my little photo shows up in all cases for G+ entries. I know authorship and the little photo is a topic of conversation lately at WA. It seems that they are not always appearing or are disappearing from older posts which seems to be a new Google "feature".
My actual post does show ranked 21 pointing directly to my site for another keyword I used but without the little photo from Google authorship.
The point I want to make is that G+ and authorship do seem to add a lot of power to search rankings.
So following the basics of good keyword research definately pays off and using social media, especially G+ and google authorship are not to be ignored.
I wish everyone well.

Thanks for sharing. I have one 'dumb' question. How do you know which keyword is ranking? Vel
Usually the keyword you are interested in ranking is the title of your article which would be repeated in the first or second paragraph of your article or page.
One of my main goals for 2014 is to master keywords, something I have not focused on for far too long, to my regret, but it is never too late. Thank you for sharing your results. It is encouraging. I look forward to reading your posts. ~ Jude
Following a technique like I describe will help a lot. In the bootcamp training this is covered a few times. I have just adapted these. I recommend using a tool to make things more effecient and thorough. Jaaxy is a good one, though a few others in the market are good as well.
It's interesting how this is happening with G+. I wish Google would divulge a bit more some of time though to help us out a bit.
