The Not So Secret, Secrets To Success At Wealthy Affiliate
Hello to all ! I've been a bit A.W.O.L. here lately at Wealthy Affiliate and been working like I'm in a Chinese fire drill on some things !
I thought I would share some thoughts and updates with my fine friends at Wealthy Affiliate, and especially the newbies and first year folks !
This may be a little long, BUT WORTH IT!
The first thought of which is most important!
When will it happen?
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has thought this ! In fact I have thought about it almost every day since I joined Wealthy Affiliate in early February!
The website is built! The training is done! I'm writing content and doing what I was taught! Now I'm sitting here again writing another post on my website, or doing yet another review and I haven't really seen the needle move yet!
Or maybe you were starting to get some decent traffic and the bottom dropped out and you think the sky is falling and it might be time to give up! Don't!
Everyone goes through the same thing, and I think that this internet business that we are endeavoring to create is most hampered by the internet! Let me explain!
The internet has made us so expecting of instant results and the answers to everything a click away that many of us no longer have any patience because we think everything has to be done now! That is simply not the case, and I'm glad!
The reason I am glad that you and I have thought these things is reassurance that we are doing this the right way, and not following the lessons of one of the many get -rich- quick scammers online !
They provide low quality content and information and then claim that you will make the kind of money that allows you to retire to the Bahamas by the next month! They are liars!
The truth is that IT WILL HAPPEN !
There is a huge percentage of people who fail online just like there is a huge percentage of people who fail offline! But if you separate the scams from a high quality training, that percentage starts to change!
Then if you put in the effort and time that percentage will swing dramatically in your favor! But everyone won't have the patience, and the work ethic to do what is needed.
The magic window?
There actually isn't a magic window but there are some basic ideas you can go by if you look at my example.
I started my first website, followed the training and had 35 posts on it within 6 months because It became a back burner project when I started my second website.
That first website was getting 2-3 visitors a week for the first few months and I thought I had really screwed up! So I started the second website in another niche, and left the first one alone for a while and only added about 1 post a month.
I was working like my hair was on fire on that second site and staying engaged here at Wealthy Affiliate and the first site was just floating.
I got a notification from Wealthy Affiliate that I had a 6 month anniversary! I thought that was cool and saved a screen shot of the notice for a later post, and didn't think much more of it to be honest.
Then about 2 weeks ago I looked at that first site in analytics because I had someone make an offer for the site. And to my amazement I was getting around 300 visitors per week without doing anything! I was both astounded and mad at myself for abandoning it! Just imagine where it might be if it was like my second site with over 100 posts on it!
The guy who wanted to buy my site showed me what he does and he said 6 months is the launching point for traffic. I was a bit taken back and inquired further. Then he showed me something that motivated the heck out of me !
This guy and his partner build affiliate marketing websites and gets them to a certain number of posts and then cuts them loose to start another one. They do nothing to most of these sites but update the plugins and answer comments about once per month.
These sites he builds average between $900 -$1000 in passive income, and they have built 44 of them so far! Let that sink in for a minute!
The numbers!
This guy (I want to share his name, but he might not like it) and his partner are pretty big YouTubers and obviously do this for a living. So he tracks everything and keeps records.
He showed me his analytics charts for his last 10 sites and over a year's time they were almost identical. They showed barely any traffic for the first 3 months.
Then it went to a trickle until the 6-month point. Once it got there they get a spike for about a month and then it drops for about a month before starting a slow and steady climb. That drop after 6 months is where most people quit by the way !
These guys do nothing after they build out 30-40 posts and still average $950 per month!
The gigantic difference with Wealthy Affiliate !
Those guys offer a training course on what they do, but it doesn't in any way compete with wealthy affiliate!
The reason is simple!
To give you a good example let's talk boats!
If you have a boat and you need an engine for this boat, are you going to be better off with 10 engines on one boat that produce 10 horsepower each, or one engine that produces 300 horsepower?
The training at Wealthy Affiliate teaches you to build that 300 horsepower engine ! Those guys are building 10 horsepower engines.
The numbers are going to always be different, and the levels you see might be better or worse, but one thing is for sure! If you follow the training and do the work here at Wealthy Affiliate for 1 year you will see success!
The niche you are in, the post count, your affiliate promotions and many more play a role! But patience and work will win every time!
Don't judge your success against the success of others!
If you take anything away from this take away that I'm trying to tell you that this works ! I've been researching other people's success along the way, and the fact remains the same !
The harder you work and the more patience you have, the faster you get results and the better the results!
Don't take the numbers I gave above other for anything other than an example! You might take a little longer or you might see some success earlier, who knows! But one thing is for sure!
If you don't give it all the effort you can, or you quit, you won't see results!
I absolutely love to see when Jerry, Grace and the others post there success posts! It lights a real fire under me, because it's just more truth of the potential ! But I don't look at the actual numbers as much as there growth, that's the part that revs my engine !
When you get to those points where you start to not believe, just read some success posts on here to reaffirm what you are doing! As it has been said over and over in training, it's a marathon not a sprint! Success will come if you keep up the effort!
My personal success is still a work in progress of course, but it's going in the right direction. After all, I'm on a five year plan so I'm feeling great about it!

Really good encouragement especially now. I have 40 posts on my website and it's over 7 months old and guess what? Zero traffic at all.
Thinking about abandoning it for a while and focus on another one, but I feel like it would be a mistake.
The fact is that my site has over 80k words of content and more to come and I am so upset that it has zero in traffic, just occasionally someone visits from google.
I went to go find your site and look at it but it isn't under your profile on the Follow Me On section. If you add it there WA members could visit which would increase your traffic a bit and maybe they could offer some suggestions.

40 posts or 80,000 words really isn't that much content, and your site is young. You have to keep going especially if you have a competitive niche! How many words/posts is normal for people in your niche? Are you the only one? You'd be quite easy to beat in many niches.

I don't think it is a heavily competitive niche. I mean there are few, authority websites and the top one has 42 posts that are best of lists, literally every single post is selling post and no informational posts at all.
I have checked their backlinks and they even use Web 2.0 backlinks. Yet, according to semrush, they have roughly 40k visitors a month and all the best of posts #1-2 ranked.
Other sites have roughly 70-80 posts. There are like 5 in total I would consider as the authority in the niche.
There are quite a few of other websites but those aren't of a good quality or big.
I mean, I feel like it is wrong to give it up but, it takes ages to write a content for me since English is not my native language. As well, it takes ages to do a good research and bring value to readers.
So much work has been invested in it and still no reward.
If I accidentally get a visitor from organic search they stay on my web for about 10+ minutes which is a good indicator of a content quality.
It sounds like you've done great research and you're onto something. It doesn't start out looking good, but I'd like to encourage you to keep going and even step it up. Don't let the adversity get you down.

Very well written Mike. This post certainly gives me the motivation to keep going. I am within my 7th month with WA, and have been going slow. At 6 months I had a major increase in traffic, because of one post I wrote, and now my traffic is going downhill. It is discouraging when that happens, and you begin to question whether you are doing something wrong. It is reassuring to know that this happens to a lot of people, and you just have to keep creating great content. Thank you.

You are at the door! Like I was saying in the post, people see their traffic drop for a month or two and get discouraged and quit!
The fact is that you are in the area that can best be described as the quiet before the storm! Work harder than ever right now !

Encouraging! Great post. I'll keep on pumping out my 2 posts a week on my original site. Dont even have a clue what I am going to be doing with my second one yet.
Awesome post! You are so right, this is a marathon, not a sprint, and success does not happen overnight. With consistency, the traffic comes, and then begins to snowball, and with that, the real success starts to happen.
