Reconsidering my goals!

I've said before that I've always loved to read. When I was a kid reading allowed me to go somewhere better than where I was, and live an exciting life of adventure!

As an adult I still love to read! For the most part of my adulthood I've read history, biographies and such. But now with my tremendously new-found excitement for starting online business, I have read several books based on such Ventures. Books like laptop millionaire by Mark anastasi and Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki have taken over my reading time for the past few months.

One of the books I've read is 4-Hour workweek by Timothy Ferriss. I'm now in the middle of listening to it on audiobook for the second time. 30 minutes ago I had an aha moment!

That aha moment had to do with my stated goals when I joined wealthy affiliate.

All of my goals in the beginning where based on amounts of money. And one of my unspoken goals was simply happiness, but I don't think that applies anymore. The reason is that there is happiness and their sadness but they're not that much different. They are just two sides of the same coin. For example if crying were the coin both happiness and sadness make that happen.

I now want to replace the word happiness with excitement! Excitement is the reason people want to make substantial amounts of money in my opinion. Being excited about a new house, or being excited about a new car, or being excited about traveling are all things that happen when you acquire money.Providing family with the essentials within a standard 9 to 5 existance is the common. I want the uncommon!

Viktor Frankel an Auschwitz Survivor said it best. " the existential vacuum manifest itself mainly in a state of boredom."

Fighting the rat race and the struggle of poverty, being poor and even into the middle class on a never-ending cycle of Soul crushing defeat is the best definition of boredom!

The excitement has already started! I've just started my third website since coming to wealthy affiliate! And I am still having an utter blast doing it! And most of all I'm excited to see what's around the next corner!!!

Never give up! And keep on keeping on!

Great post-Mike.

nice post. interestingly enough every one who is rich says money doesn't make them happy, everyone who's famous says fame doesn't make them happy. It's in the quest for the thing thatmakes us happy and not necessarily in the holding of it.

That said, I'd rather not have to worry about money any more. ;)

I don't think I would want to touch fame with a stolen identity lol- they can have it.

As for money- I don't think money is so much as a source of happiness, I believe money is a nice tool to have for preventing stress over not having money and the life challenges that being broke and living pay check to pay check present.

I also think the right attitude toward money is a huge requirement for money to work its wonders on ones overall mental well-being.

For example- if you make $2,000,000 per year and spend $1,999,999 per year on your lifestyle then you're just as broke and stressed out about money as someone who makes $20,000 per year and spends $19,999 on your lifestyle.

On the flip side if the $2,000,000/year person keeps spending their $1,999,999 and the $20,000/year person decides to adjust their lifestyle and only spends $10,000/year guess who is going to have less "money" related stress?

It's getting yourself into the mindset of creating a surplus that allows money to help you avoid some sources of unhappiness and stress.

I by no means don't mean I'm not interested in money!LOL
But one thing is for sure, planning for having it while you're getting it is important!
Like the song says, money can't by m,e happiness......but it can buy me a truck! LOL

Hi Mike, oh, I loved the 4-Hour Work-Week! That's most certainly a goal of mine. First... put in the hours... then build PASSIVE income. Although have to say I love working ... so will I give it up?
Probably not. The joy is in the journey too, in achieving successes, in problem-solving, in helping others. Oh goodness... don't get me started. You've opened up such a fascinating discussion.

Thanks ! Have a great evening!

Mike

Keep at it. Reading, writing, and effort will pay off!

Thanks for the kind words !
Best of success to you!

Mike

Very well said! And I agree- I am happy now, but I find happiness or sadness is more of a choice- it’s our decision to choose how we react to what life throws at us.

That is utterly well said !
Best of success!
