Advertising in a one horse town
Recently I had an idea to advertise in a local paper, but I learned the hard way that advertising locally is great, but maybe not so effective in a one horse town!
I added a thumbnail ad and a text add to the local paper, before I found out that the circulation numbers rival that of passing out napkins at dinner. And just to think it only cost $120 for zero leads!
Better ways and better days
I have been using some small Facebook ad campaigns of $5-$10 to see what works and I have gotten far more exposure than I did in the local paper! Facebook ads are starting to work better every time I use them, because the awesome analytic s helps you hone your ads by choosing the right age groups to target and the right locations to target.
My Facebook pages and group is growing slowly, but steadily and my Twitter and Google plus is doing fair. All three have had better results than the paper.
I have used several Fiverr gigs for Facebook promotion, and presently working on one for Twitter. I'm not sure whether Fiverr gigs will be a good idea on my website, because I'm not sure how Google will view this type of traffic. If they see it as artificial it might hurt my ranking and SEO more than it helps .
Putting a plan together
I am planning an advertising plan that includes social media as well as an initial freebie offering for my beginning e-mail list. In the add for the freebie,I'm gonna try to get people to like the page and share it before going to the landing page where e-mail is collected and they are redirected to the thank you page.
Still brainstorming more ways to do advertising. Don't want to mess with adwords yet because if you aren't careful you can lose thousands of dollars if you set things up wrong. My brain storm is turning out to just be a scattered shower at this point.
One thing is for sure though. The local paper advertising fail forced me to learn something!
Still following along with the instruction here at W.A. and taking time to get things the way I want them, but making many plans for going forward.
If you guys have ideas that you would like to share for advertising and driving traffic, I and everyone else would likely like to hear it.
