I'm trying to finish an article off but it seems that the images (from WA) are really large and not going where they should. Has anyone else struck this problem?

Hi Mike,

I have noticed since the recent WA site content update, images have been challenging to upload.

They no longer wrap around text in the site content stage of posting and as you have said are the images now suddenly huge.

I've found that I can get the images better positioned once I have published and then I can work on the article, tidy it up, and reposition images in Wordpress.

Bit of a backward step I feel, but at least you can still get around the problem.

The processes have certainly changed since the recent 'update'.

All the best
Cherie :o)

Thank you Cherie. I will see if I get a better result editing through Wordpress. Much appreciated. Mike

you can hold shift when resizing inside your post too. Click on the image, hold one of the 4 corners with your left mouse button, and move the mouse to resize.

Thanks I will give it a try.

If you hold shift doing this, the image will resize linearly. I hope you can fit it then.

Hey Mike,

If you're getting "massive" images it's probably down to your theme.

This is why it is often suggested to go with the standard, lightweight themes initially, and then perhaps having a premium theme once you're into the realms of "big traffic".

So, some of the most lightweight themes include GeneratePress, Astra, OceanWP, Kadence, etc.

The other thing to do is to actually check your site, articles, and images on your smartphone (don't do a "phone check" from your desktop, actually check on your smartphone).

You'll often find that what looks massive on Desktop appears to be completely normal on your phone. This simply means that the the theme is more geared towards mobile.

This is actually a good thing, as the vast majority of traffic typically comes from mobile anyway.

You can also check your Google Analytics to see what percentage of your traffic comes from mobile.

The other thing you can do is to optimize your images before you upload them.

Sure, Kraken works well if you publish your articles from SiteContent, and even though it is pre-installed by WA, it's certainly nowehere near the best image optimizer out there.

That being said, the vast majority of very good image optimizers, you will need to speak to SiteSupport to see if they can provide "write access" for the image optimizer plugin, as many are INITIALLY blacklisted/blocked by WA Hosting.

You can do a Google Search for something like

Optimize Images Free Online

I've provided a screenshot below.

I've used all of the top 4 results previously to optimize images with great results.

So, in SiteContent add the image, then right-click it and save it to your Desktop.

Then go to one of the free image optimizers on Google, upload, and optimize.

Then you can upload it to SiteContent or directly to WordPress.

However, I still stand by it's probably your theme if you're getting really large image on WordPress.

So again, check your site on a smartphone and see how it looks, check your GA to see how much of your traffic is mobile, and then you can make a decision as whether to keep or change your theme.

Partha

Thanks Partha. I'm running the Astra theme. I think I will hold this article in drafts and write another article to see if the problem persists and if it does I will go to Plan B which will be to utilise your ideas above. The last time I checked it was about 50/50 desktop and mobile. Cheers Mike

Just tried again and the image didn't go to the right hand side and it was huge and it tried to hyperlink some text that I didn't want to as well.

maybe exclude copyrighted pictures in the search bar.

You have Kraken by default with every new WordPress installation (plugins tab) you can use to choose a smaller image.

You can choose on the right sidebar from within your pages and posts.

Have you not used it?

I never used it @abie thx. Now I know what it does, cool.

I use Photoshop to adjust them. You can adjust the image by size with the photo app on your windows. Open the picture> right click > Resize

Thanks Stefan, it seems that before the WA update on Content the images worked really well and now not so much.

No, the problem is all the images have different sizes, so the site can't adjust for an infinite amount.

They sill do :) There shouldn't be any issues.

Is anyone else having issues with the size of images when creating content?

I finished an article this morning and went back to my website to check and a new category had appeared on my top tab. Gnews had appeared and when I clicked on it an article of

You can go to your post and change the category or undo and update.

Click the category to make sure your post is not there.

Then hover over posts, click categories, and try to edit or delete them from there.

Or else reach out to site support and have them check your website.

(As you say, suddenly appeared.....)

Sounds like a job for site support. New categories should not be auto generated so have them check to make sure you haven't been hacked.

Thanks, I did think it was a bit strange for it to suddenly appear. I have put a ticket into site support.

Everything Wordpress

Morning Everyone. I published an article yesterday on WA and its not showing on my website. Any ideas?
Also, Is there a limit to the amount of content that can go on an Ast

Thanks Brenda, I have checked on Wordpress posts and pages and it's definitely not showing. Good to know about the theme tho. It must be a conspiracy theory morning, perhaps i should have a cup of tea and a lie down!!

I suggest you go back to SiteContent, do the publish, try it again, and see if that works. Yeah, have a cup of tea and lie down for a while then recharge your energies. Try SiteContent again or do a new one with a copy and paste if you know how to do that. You can go to SiteContent, then if it's still there, then copy and paste into your word post. I have done that way when SiteContent gave me issues.

Thanks Again Brenda, I'm picking it will have to be a copy and paste. I've got another article ready so I may publish that first just to make sure its not an ongoing issue.

Great idea!

It will be on your website. If you posted through SiteContent and posted as the page when you enter your WordPress dashboard, click Post or Page, then find your article there. There is no limit to the content that can go on any theme. Except for the hosting megabytes limitation for words, I think. As a Premium, should have plenty of that usage.
