Another Wobble. But I Got This!

If you're anything like me then you have 100% had a "wobble" before.

Well today was another one of those days (first one in a while!!)

If you follow other entrepreneurs or any kind of successful person you will no doubt see all the best moments plastered over social media and see "success posts" all the time.

Well I thought I would break the mold for a moment and share with you the dirty truth with the "entrepreneurial journey" (or as I like to call it... becoming different!)

So I woke up to a message that it looks like our investment property is still not going to get refinanced any time soon (now I can almost hear your mind saying "boo hoo... feel bad for the guy who has enough money to buy properties!!")

Well let me back up for a second.

I'm not a guy who has money to buy properties... in fact my wife and I are teachers (if you know a teacher in the UK or if you are one... then you know these are not a species that breed money)

However, we have made decisions and choices over the last few years that has recently helped us get into this position... including...

  • working in the middle east for 4 years,
  • selling our own house,
  • going to great lengths to network with other people,
  • saying no to things I want to do far more than I say yes
  • continually reading and learning to change for the better.

However, when you are quitting your job (I finish next month... eek!), the one thing you have done almost all of your adult life, and you find out your one year's worth of savings needed to buy food and provide shelter for the coming year (alright bit extreme mate!) is not coming to you any time soon... it messes with you (trust me on that if you haven't been there)!

I'm not totally crazy... my amazing and supportive wife is staying on in her job and we can definitely "get by" on that salary.

But the whole point of doing this is not to "get by". We want to be able to live life on our terms.

  • Travel when we want.
  • Decide if we just want to chill or see family on random days.
  • Help other people live life on their own terms
  • Make a real difference

But all this self-doubt keeps setting in... Am I really going to be able to do this??... Will it even work??... am I just being a selfish and spoilt brat who doesn't realise when he's got it good??

And then enter the WA community... first of all some words of encouragement when I really needed it from Dale (a guy who has been there done that got the T-shirt thank you very much)... and then this blog post from Pastor Dan

So that led me to check out my rankings on Google Search Console, as I continue to procrastinate and not do what I really should be... (btw it's edit an awesome podcast chat with 2 guys that make over $240k per month, which will go out next Thursday... stay tuned for that bad boy!)

Look what I found...

As Pastor Dan points out so well...

Total clicks = number of people that have found my website (yes my website) through Google... hence completely passive marketing from me!

Total impressions = number of people that have seen my website in their Google Search

CTR = Click through rate... i.e. I receive 6 clicks per thousand people that see my website.

Avg position = where my posts that are indexed are ranking on average

And that's not all...

I'm getting ranked for some great keywords. Hence, it's not just random people finding my website, it's people that are interested in what I'm writing about and therefore likely interested in making money online to free up their time.

I had no idea. I didn't even know how to track this before Dan's post and I certainly didn't know people were consistently finding my website even when I am sipping cocktails on the beach with Sarah (I don't always do this... only on weekends... Joking Mum, I'm working hard really)

Anywho...

The moral of the story is this...

You will go through shit... It will feel like nothing is working... but if you can plough through it good things will happen that you won't even be aware of.

I know I will make this work.

It may take me longer than my original targets but I know this for sure...

"I never lose. I either win or I learn." (thanks Nelson)

Keep changing for the better,

Mike

Peace out (I may just have to finish all of these posts like this)

P.S. Sarah, sorry for being stressy... It will all be alright. I promise (hold me to that)

Your life is a mirror of mine! I am also a teacher and have now done almost 4 years in the middle east after years of struggling financially. With that money from the middle east I can now build a house in Thailand and use that as a base from which to develop my online income and start to really take control of my life. I'm also a horrific procrastinator too! Best of luck:-)

That’s amazing Rob!! So are you living in Thailand now? We are definitely considering moving to SE Asia after a year or so.

Sounds like you’re on a great journey, when did you rejoin WA?

Yes, I'm back in Thailand now and starting a job at a Uni tomorrow. Hopefully will be a lot less stressful than teaching kids ha!

I rejoined WA 3 and a half years ago. I have built a few pages of my site and it makes money every month. I just need to stop this silly procrastination and build more and more pages. I have sussed the business - it's easy! It's merely a case of doing more of the same. Literally just 10 keyword based posts are making me over $700 + a year.

Now I have a solid base I think my confidence will pick up and by the end of this year $1000 a month is a very real possibility. Watch this space :-)

Great to hear Rob, exciting times ahead. Do keep in touch I'd love to hear how you're getting on!

Keep your great mindset!
It's the best way to move forward to
your success.

Ingrid

Thanks Ingrid, I certainly will!

Love the attitude,
And we look forward to hearing how Sarah “ held you to that “ lol
Best wishes

Thanks so much!

It looks to me like you have made some good choices, and WA is one of them. You don't make it overnight on here but I firmly believe this place can get you to your goal eventually , if you just keep working and learning.

Thanks Fran! Take care

Good afternoon my friend, I love your attitude, as you say you don't lose you either win or learn this is exactly the way I feel deeply inside of me, as I climb this mountain to prosperity. Keep doing what you're doing my friend, I will see you on top of that mountain of success.

Thanks Earl, looking forward to seeing how you get on too

Yes, everyone has wobbles. "I either win or I learn." Love it. When you approach everything you do with that mindset, you are continually moving forward. Sounds like a great podcast!

True words Chris! I'm enjoying the chats I'm having and keeps me accountable to keep networking. There's some incredible people out there

I LOVE the "I never lose. I either win or I learn" attitude.

Although I can emphasize with your struggles, I don't feel sorry for you. As you pointed out, they represent what is REAL about the entrepreneurial process, to include the investing in real estate part.

Just as you said, people share the beginning struggles and some of the milestone success stories. Yet, they leave out the "less sexy" stories about how hard, frustrating, and sometimes scary the challenges that come up are.

I am currently trying to recover from a real estate investment that didn't work out - even though on paper it should have.

Your post was exactly what I needed to read this morning. Thank your for reminding us/me that this is all part of the "game."

You are doing awesome. Keep up your winning spirit.

Thanks so much Sondra!

I've kind've learnt that as long as tenants can pay for the mortgage and costs of real estate it may not go as well as you first thought, but usually in the long run it wins (just gotta keep reminding myself of that!)

I'm glad it could help you in some small way.

"Part of the game"...I also think the more we see it as a game the more fun it is and the more passion we put into it.

Take care

I'm all about having fun. Life is meant to be fun.

Best wishes!

Sorry to hear about the refi Mike, but you're definitely making some headway with your website. I don't think it'll be too long until the snowball really starts growing.

Just subbed to your podcast!

Thanks Nathaniell... would be great to have you on it some time soon!
