No, keep at it if this is a topic you love! It doesn't matter what you're promoting, it all takes time. You should see more action 6-12 months down the road but that's if you've put in consistent weekly work.
Will you have more properties to sell though than what that one person you know has? If you build this website, make sure you'll have enough properties to sell because once your site takes off, you'll need to have enough properties to sell!. ;)
