What Do You Know About Worm Farming?

There have been quite a few blogs and questions about what types of things to blog about. This question often takes the form of frustration. (What should I write about? / I don't know what my Passion is, please help.) I have been thinking that one of the things I can do to help is to grab a quick look at some topics that you can build into a website or added as additional content to the one you are working on right now, so:

What Do You Know About Worm Farming? (or, what can you learn in a few days that can be used to help your visitors understand what they can gain from this fun, interesting and, possibly, profitable endeavor?)

I looked up the keyword 'worm farming' in our intrepid keyword tool and I got 961 monthly searches but 305 as a QSR! Other keyword phrases, such 'worm farming for profit' has 590 monthly and 83 QSR. So there are people looking for this – even if many people think they are probably nuts. This could be a website or additional content that can go on a garden or natural food or environmentally friendly site.

This can also be a perfect fit on a website that, dare I say it, revolves around fishing. With this, I must tell you a brief tale. (It will be short but powerful.) In Portland, Oregon, my hometown, in the late 60's or early 70's, I am not absolutely sure, there was a young man who went to several golf courses and offered to handle watering their courses for them if he was allowed access in the evening and first thing in the morning. He would go each night and turn the sprinklers on and follow up in a few hours and pick up as many worms as he could. (they like to come out and get moisture from the sprinkling.) he would place them in containers and sell those to bait shops and individually at the local fishing 'holes'.

We can skip ahead a couple of years to find he is running the largest limousine service in town, and Portland is a big town. Did he get rich farming worms or from the car service? You can answer that, but he did make enough from the worms to buy a handful of limousines, some nice clothes, (since he didn't have to crawl around in the wet mud anymore) and a couple of those cute, goofy hats.

By working with worms, your visitors can learn about the great composting material that can be made This is, after all, what worms do all day every day!

They aerate the soil, making is easy to grow many things.

The soil that is generated can be sold by the bag! They can make money from dirt!

You can explain to them how they can turn their garbage into a profitable enterprise.

You will probably have to fill in a lot of gaps I have left on this blog, and some of that will be some of the different types of worms, which are the best for farming and which ones the fishermen like the best. You may want to learn about the life cycle of worms and how they procreate. (NO, I am not going to post images of that, but I have been led to believe they are HOT!)

There is a lot of equipment on Amazon that can be promoted. Tools and PH testers will be critical in accomplishing a great farm.

as an example of books and training available.

This is something that can be included on family activity sites or gardening websites.

There can be a lot of fun things learned about these cuties and what they can do for the yard and pocketbook.

If this niche interests you, take it and run with it. It might be a little weird, but that is what makes this whole adventure fun for all of us.

Till next time,

That is a very special niche. But could be interesting for fishermen and for survival training freaks.

.....and those interested in green gardening and making a few dollar and those who don't mind getting their hands dirty.

Right! I see, you did your homework! There are more possibilities than I ever thought off.

Not my niche.

None of the ideas I am putting out there are for everyone. I just appreciate you for visiting and thinking about!

I know. I should have put a smiley face after my comment;)

not a problem, Navy!

Very interesting topic to think about. I never would have thought of worms/worm farming as a niche, but your post painted a clear picture of what could be done with it. I have already picked out my second niche, but I may consider worms at some point down the road. Thanks for the idea. :)

Any time! I get a kick out of thinking of stuff!

Oh wow! Another great post with a topic we just introduced on my grandson's Facebook page.
My sons and grandson have huge worm bins that produce a liquid fertilizer from the worm pee.
They call it liquid gold for their garden.
Thank you, for the abundance of great ideas I can use.
Susan

Great minds DO, indeed, think alike!

What a great reply! I certainly can't argue with that one! :)

Thank You, I can use this. I love it! I got my 10 year old a fishing pole for Christmas and we have a 3 year old in our household and I just got him one for his birthday. I had a worm farm in my back yard that came with the house my dad bought when I was 5 . I think this would be a great topic to explore and blog and YouTube about with the boys!!!

A family affair; I like it!

I am enjoying these new niche posts, Mickey, You have some very creative ideas, and are giving folks good niche ideas. Kudos.

I enjoy thinking about all sorts of stuff!

A great niche. I bought a worm farm online several years ago and it was great - I am a big gardener and they make great compost. Maybe this will be my next niche!

There you go; you were there before me!

Fascinating. Who would've thought worm farming could be a niche! It just goes to show the choices that are out there.

There are literally millions and millions of niches out here!

Hi Mickey, nice blog about slimy worms.

P.s. If that's an affiliate link, or a link trying to sell, it's definitely not allowed Please remove it

Loes; ALL of the links I place in this series of blogs are the RAW links (straight to the author's site, not my affiliate link)

Thank you for the police work!

Those links are also not allowed, sorry

I like worms for fishing!

It might be something to work on, although I know you don't have a backyard, so think about including this info into another website, if it interests you enough.

Something that's always been in the back of my mind has been to start a worm farm with compost. We do have a porch and somewhat enough space to maintain one, plus a lot of the food scraps. So, thanks for the idea, I'll definitely consider writing about it and maybe starting a different niche website.

Go for it, Daniel! It always great to do or get something before you promote it!
