Be Careful Of Ads On Your Website!

As a website developer, you should be careful which ads you allow on your Website. Some advertisers will do the selecting for you. (I won't mention any advertisers here so as to be unbiased). I placed an Ad on my website which actually took over my website. The third party advertiser's ad was placed where I didn't want it - on my home page at the top - it was the first thing one saw when they got to my website. If by chance a person clicked on the Ad right away, they never got to see or read my content. After they went to this advertiser's website, they couldn't return to my site at all. WONDERFUL! I do all the work and somebody else benefits! Well, that wasn't going to work. I tried to have the Ad placed where I wanted it but no such luck. It kept appearing on my homepage at the top. I am a marketing affiliate and my first loyalty is to the Company that approved me as an affiliate . Not some third party advertiser. Needless to say I deleted the Ad entirely. I just want to provide a heads-up for anyone contemplating the use of Ads on their website to make a few extra bucks. For me, it wasn't worth it as I lost control of my own website. I recommend that you only place ads where you want them, don't use too many as it will lessen the appearance of your website, and hopefully the customer can return to your site if they so desire.

Thank you for this insight. It will be helpful as I get ready to add to my website.

Your welcome

Was that AdWords, Mick?

No ads. Some ads can take over your website. So be sure to test them good before you launch your post.

No it wasn't

Very true...

good thank you for the info

Thank you for this info.

Good reminder.

I will bear your warning in mind, James! You did well reporting it! Do you think this also goes for Google Adsense?

Google adsense wasn't the party involved on my website. There are other companies that do the same things that google adsense does. I would be careful with ads. You should do a lot of testing to make sure the ad on your site is not taking over.

I will stick closely to the Google Adsense rules and pass words, Mick. There should not be any problem after safely logging in. (Although you never know), to WA (I just put a banner on successfully!!) and to Amazon.
Appriciate your reminder to us all, Mick!

Thank you for sharing James.

Thank you James. That's sage advice. Be true to your prime advdertisee!

Yes, I agree with you, Mick.
The other week I clicked on a website to look up a colour chart and the first thing I saw was a beautiful looking girl with a very healthy body, posing for a Russian dating ad. Then there were ads all over the site. I couldn't even tell you what the name of the site is cause I clicked off it quick smart

You experienced it first hand. Some of these advertisers have no ethical standards. They just want to make money. I won't lower my website to that level.

Yes me either Mick.
An old man many years ago told me "it's better to lose your eyes than your name"
