Google Penalty? Jaaxy vs. Reality - Discrepancy

I was wondering why there is such a discrepancy between the data Jaaxy shows. and reality.

Here is the thing.

I did an article regarding Muncheye, on May 22nd, 2021.
The KW I want to rank for is "what is muncheye"

The Jaaxy shows that I should be getting quite a lot of traffic:

The article seems to be ranking quite well.

In fact here are some data from Jaaxy Site Rank:

According to the Jaaxy Site Rank (the image above), my website reached Position #1, on Monday, July 19th, 2021.

Even According to the Google Search Console, my website is on the 1st page of Google:

Now, according to Google Analytics, this particular article has gotten less than 40 pageviews in the last 7 days:

I can't figure out why this happens.

Could it be that my site has been penalized, (somehow)?

Why do I think about the penalization?

In the last 30 days, I took 3 or 4 old articles from 2019 and made them new.
Meaning,

- I changed the KW (including URL, Meta Data, Meta Description...)
- I added content
- And changed the date to XXth of July 2021.

In one of Jay's recent webinars (Improving Old Content for SEO), he explicitly said, "don't do this, It may hurt your ranking".

That's why I "hallucinate" about being penalized.

PS.
Since June/July Google Core Update my traffic dropped by more than 70%, comparing April 2021 and June 2021.
So, is this somehow related to the particular article as well?... I really don't know.

I feel like I must share this with you guys, and I am sure something will come out of the discussion.

Have a great rest of the weekend!
Mike

Hey Mike,

Okay, this will probably be extremely unpopular with many on the platform, but I don't have a great deal of time for Jaaxy (or most keyword tools to be honest).

For me, most keyword tools are based on historical data.

So, what may have been true last year, may not be the case anymore.

This is especially true when it comes to PRODUCT NAMES.

Okay, I'll admit that Jaaxy may be a little more accurate for "basic" keyword phrases, but the popularity of a product is at its greatest just after after launch.

So, traffic figures may well be an average of the last year or two, e.g. The product name was generating 100,000 searches in July 2020, but generates 15 searches in July 2021, so the "AVG" over the last year is 10,000 views a month.

Plus, you'll often find that different keywords tools provide different data, which makes it difficult to ascertain which one is correct.

I see that you clearly have the Featured Snippet, so well done for that.

However, I have plugged "What is Muncheye" into both Ubersuggest and Keyword Surfer and both show a search volume of 0 monthly searches (but once again these are based on historical data, but it appears more relevant than Jaaxy according to your traffic stats).

I've included images of the searches below (Keyword surfer - you'll notice the United States flag in Google's search bar next to the keyword with the figure 0 next to it).

I would also say that if you check further down on the Jaaxy results, you'll see "Muncheye JVZoo" and "Muncheye WarriorPlus" which show far less traffic.

So, why such a huge discrepancy?

You'd expect there to be some difference, but not that much.

Furthermore, I've also included an image of the Quora result which ranks at position 10 on page one of Google.

The Top Quora answer has received 12,000 views in 17 months, so an average of 706 views a month.

But, the majority of these views would typically come from the Quora platform, especially in the first week.

However, over the course of 17 months traffic from BOTH Google and Quora still averages approx 700 views a month (at a guess approx 10,000 of those views would have come in the first month, so about 2,000 views over the last 16 months, i.e. not a lot).

Basically, when it comes to specific product names, especially in the internet marketing niche, most products will be at their most popular just after launch.

It's only the ones that stand the test of time that will still receive regular traffic, e.g. Wealthy Affiliate, Authority Hacker, Income School, etc.

As for changing the url of old articles, without a redirect, you have basically created a completely new article in Google's eyes.

So, you are starting afresh again.

Obviously, your site has some authority because you are ranking so quickly, but a new url is still deemed as a new article (without the redirect).

And as for the Core Web Vitals update, most sites went unnoticed on the June 13th update.

However, a lot of sites were hit from July 1st - July 9th in the second update.

However, as long as your content is still deemed relevant and of quality, your traffic should come back up eventually.

I took a huge dip in the first week in July, but am currently back to almost the same levels as the beginning of June.

That tells me everything's okay, and my traffic should increase again from next month.

Hope that helps

Partha

Which one would you believe jaaxy or keyword surfer?

Cheers,
Mathew&Deloris;

Hey Mathew & Deloris.

As I've mentioned, from a personal perspective I don't have a huge amount of trust in keyword tools (My last few WA Blog Posts have explained how I do "keyword research").

I've even mentioned that

Partha,
We thank you for this detailed answer we are sure to look at your other articles. Thanks again.

Cheers,

Hey Partha,

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

It surely helps.

Mike,

I questioned this a number of times and the answers you get back will probably not be the ones you are looking for.

With the constant changes to the Google algorithm nobody can really give you a true answer and that's why a lot is trial an error.

I thought about revamping old reviews that I still think are crap but changing them I thought would be more difficult than re-writing them.

After all I can do this in a day and I will be at least more satisfied that I have made a better job.

Just a thought.

Mick

Thank you Mick for your thoughts.
Appreciate it.

Actually, the only way forward is to keep coming up with new and quality content.

one thing i picked up on in your article is that you changed the url....
every url is unique and if you change it then it becomes another post...which means you now potentially have multiple posts competing for the same position...
or if you have removed hte original ...google is now confused as to what happened to the old one....
the one thing after publishing that you don't do is to chane hte url....everything else ok...but change the url and it is now a new post...possibly with the same id from wordpress ...really confusing google...and maybe making it think that you are trying to 'game' the system....
as for the original post you are talking about....
google will test your post against the others it already has in the top 10 and if it finds that people click on it then it will leave it there for a little bit ....
so it may be a bit of interest in your post that dwindled after a short period of time...
is the meaning behind the title answered in the post or is it a review of muncheye...i can't tell from the title....
maybe the metadesription tels the potential visitor more and how does that align with hte other top 10 posts...does yours stand out on its own or does it add value to the others...

@MichalB
Hi Phil
For my clarity on this...
if we change a URL for a post, am I right in believing that the old URL still exists in the google index, perhaps until it is deliberately deleted?
I.E. submitting a new sitemap doesn't clean up the index?
In which case, should Mick set up a re«direct from the old URL to the new?
:-)
Richard

the redirect would be the way to go...
you can remove the url in search console

Thank you, Phil,

Unfortunately, I have never thought about it this way (that google might be confused about the articles).

Regarding the Muncheye, it is a review of Muncheye.
- I see what you mean; makes sense.

Appreciate the feedback
Mike

Interesting. I would like to know why too.
