Refreshing older posts

Hi all,

I thought I'd share with you something I've started doing this week and am building into my routine here.

I'm reviewing all of my oder posts for:

  • Keywords
  • Images
  • Content and grammar
  • Links
  • SEO

And then updating and reposting to social media.

When I look at my posts from a year ago, I realise they aren't great. The one I looked at this morning was an OK artilce but the images weren't great, I didn't use the keywords correctly and whilst I'm sure I enjoyed writing it at the time it was doing nothing for my site.

I got some lovely new images from SiteContent, I made better use of the keywords, I fixed a few errors and gave it a szooosh!

It only took me about 20 minutes to review and repost, and I think this was an excellent use of my time.

It's far easier to review and improve an exisitng post than start from scratch with something new. We may as well make the best use of what we already have, right?

I am going to do this for 2 of my older posts every day, on top of my usual work on my sites. Come to think of it there's no reason why I couldn't do that for comments as well via SiteComments.

Do you re-look at your older posts and make sure they are working for you?

Wishing you well today lovely community.

~Melissa

Thank you for sharing, funny that you should post this because I have been a here just over a month and I look back at my first 10 posts and see things that I know now that can be improved as I go.

Thanks and all the best :)

Amazing share. keep it up. this is encouraging meaning a year from I should be refreshing mine right?

wish the best

Tristan.

Hi Tristan,
Well I first started posting about a year ago, and when I started I didn't know what I know now.
I think when you're at a point when you're fairly confident with your writing and SEO then it's time to re-look at earlier posts. It might be a year, or it might be less for you depending on where you're at I guess?
All the best to you Tristan!
Cheers

A great idea, Melissa.

I started reposting some of my older posts to my Facebook fan page a week ago and was surprised to find the article on Facebook ranked on Bing even though the original article wasn't.

Hi Phil,
That's a nice surprise! Hope you're surviving the heat today? It was 45 here earlier today.
Cheers

29 today.
Forecast 29 tomorrow... and the next day... and the next.
Went for an hour and a half walk alongside the Noosa River this morning, enjoying the cool breeze off the water.
I truly live in weather paradise.

45 is just yuk!

This is something that I had already considered but I am still full on trying to get new content on my site that it has been difficult to find the time.

All the best with your new content Adrian :)
Cheers

Great idea! Thank you:)

No problem Nurse Becca!

Something I will certainly take on board and note for future reference. Haven't done enough posts to qualify for reviewing yet.

Thanks Alex :)

Thanks, Melissa, that's great advice. We have been reviewing a few older posts but it has been very haphazard. We are now going to start doing it more methodically.

Great work Colette and Philip. Hope you're doing well.

Great Melissa! I went through and did some updates last year but I should do some more. You are right! It is a much more efficient use of time to update an existing post with things like new images than to start a post from scratch. That is something many here don't realize. They don't know that we can and should go back and update. Google views it as a good thing too since it shows activity on the page and that helps our SEO and ranking.

Hi Jessica,
I hope that Google gives them some new found love!
Cheers
