My progress so far, and a thank you
Hi there. I've been in WA for 2 weeks, and what a 2 weeks!! I am LOVING this. My background is in organisational psychology and I work in a strategic HR function. I have never done anything like this is my life!! This is completely new for me.
There are a few reasons why I joined WA:
- I want to learn a new skill (or even profession) without having to leave my job.
- I want to grow and challenge myself, in my own way and on my terms.
- I want to work towards being able to work from home so that I can spend as much time as I possibly can with my family.
- I want to be in charge of my destiny! I was beginning to feel a bit like a passenger.
So I joined WA. And my goodness. What a wonderful, supportive, giving community this is. And the training has been fantastic. As someone with zero skills coming into this, the training has been exactly what I've needed it to be to progress in a self-paced way. If I don't understand something I just go back and watch/listen again. I'm working my way through the exercises. The only thing I wish is that I had more hours because all I'm wanting to do right now is throw myself at this.
My progress so far:
- I'm getting through the training. I'm currently at Stage 2, lesson 10. I take the time whenever I get it. For example, right now I'm at a skate park with my kids. (By the way they are very supportive. They think it's really cool that Mum is learning how to create websites.)
- I bought my first domain. Yes!!
- I have set up 3 pages, and written 3 posts.
- I am doing research, finding images, and getting ideas wherever I go.
- I reminded myself how much I love writing!! I'm really rusty but I know it will come back with time.
My goals for the upcoming 3 months:
- I will complete all of the training.
- I will feel confident with the content of the training.
- I will have an up and running fully functional website that will start to attract traffic.
- I will be in the rhythm of creating posts and content.
- I will be proud of my very first website.
- I will have enough knowledge to be answering questions and helping within WA.
My goals for the upcoming 6 months:
- I will have decided on my 2nd niche and purchased my 2nd domain.
- I will continue to work hard and hopefully begin to see that this can become my new career.
I want to say a big thank you to this community. I am truly appreciative for the very warm welcome, and I am grateful for the way that I see members respond and interact with others.
Thanks for reading and I wish each and every one of you the very best.
Melissa

Way to Go Melissa. I feel the same way. Right now I don't have much free time and it's killing me. Things will settle down after Christmas and I will have a lot more time.
You don't have to know a lot to be active in this community. Start following some of the people. Read some of their blogs. There's a ton of great information there.
Keep up the good work, and wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas. See you at the top.

What a lovely post. I am pleased that you have found WA as warm and welcoming as I have. I was also a total newbie when I joined and joined for very similar reasons to you. The challenge of learning something so new to me has been made easy by the training.
I wish you much success.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

You're moving right along. I believe your background and experience will serve you well. What jumped out at me from your blog above is you love writing, even though you might be a little rusty.
Once you've got a website developed the single most important factor in monetizing your site is generating an increasing flow of traffic. And what is the single most important activity that will do that?
Quality content and lots of it.
