Getting Creative With Content Ideas

For most bloggers and content writers coming up with ideas for original content is one of the biggest hurdles. Once you have an idea then generally it kinda flows, but that initial starting place can be a hard place to be.

The scariest moment is always just before you start.”
Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

A while back I was laughing at an email that Neil Patel sent round saying he was promoting a million visitor a month technique. That wasn't the funny part - he wanted anyone with a blog to write a few words about the webinar and put a link to his site (basically advertising this new webinar) and email the link of your site into him in return for a free something or other.

I thought that's very cheeky,... and then I thought 'why not?' - and promptly used this as the title for my own post and gave some background on Neil as well as info on his webinar.

This post which was completely in response to a situation I came across is still one of my biggest SEO posts and gets some of the highest clicks. So it might have been cheeky for Neil but it also worked a treat for me.

The moral of the story really is that content is everywhere, we see it always and we simply have to convert into our writing.

As Sylvia Plath says -

And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”
Sylvia Plath, The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath

Hi Marie, my take home is that content is everywhere, we just have to look for it and make the connection. Self-doubt can be a crippler. Thank you for this post. Imagine 1 million visits a month, something would crash for sure, probably me backing out of the garage just after I have looked on my phone and just realised LOL.

1 million visitors would be a lot of comments to deal with that's for sure!

That is an interesting thought and a million views eh???

Yes - well not on my website unfortunately!!

that is a dream eh as I am lucky to get my few a day - well went to 76 last night!!!

That's great it all helps (makes a couple of thousand visitors a month which is more than most shops would get)- just another 999,924 to go!

Will I get there I wonder?

Marie, Thanks for sharing the Stephen King's Quote and Sylvia Plath's Quote, both have encouraged me.

They are lovely quotes aren't they? Stephen King actually has loads of really good writing quotes if you are ever in need of some motivational thoughts.

So is, I take time to read some Stephen King's quotes.

That is really good to know. I probably would have been afraid to do it for some stupide reason. But that worked out great!!congrats!

I think business is all about risk taking at some level, having the confidence to believe in yourself is key but also not being afraid of failure (or your actions being perceived as failure) is a really important mindset to have.

These quotes are fantastic ! Happy Saturday - Steve

Thanks Steve!

Content is King, I guess. :)

King indeed - or perhaps in the words of one of content's kings

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.”
― Stephen King

Definitely good advice! I like your comment. :)

I love the quotes that you used here. And interesting concept about posting your blog. I've read about how doing those sort of things, can really help. I know a lady who found a "blog contest" and submitted one of her posts. She got a ton of traffic from just submitting it. So I guess it really pays to utilize any avenue you can to get your content out there in different places!

Thanks, the blog contest idea sounds good!

I think that is what will enable blogs to succeed, being able to find original ways to connect with an audience and to stand out from the others. Hopefully we'll all keep continuing to find new ways.

You are right, it does take that first jump to get momentum and jumping is scary. As your creation takes shape, looking back at that fear seems foolish. That little niggle of uncertainty could get in the way of the next big success, so I am grateful to you for this post and the little nudge to jump.

Hi Kari I agree it can be scary, hopefully this post just highlights how creativity can be used and can work.

Smart strategy. Glad it worked for you!

Thanks for commenting, obviously not all content strategies work but it is having the confidence and willingness to try that also gives us the opportunity to be different.

The JOYS of our trade.....
Thanks so much!

Joys indeed - or make it up as you go along!
