Odd Site Issues
Coming From a Tech Background, You'd Think I'd Spot the Cause of My Issue Sooner
Hello everyone,
This is going to be a short and sweet post.
I've been neglecting my WA promotion site while I work on my ranking here in WA and on my existing drone site. Today I went in to start adding more content to my WA promotion site and happened to notice that my site was not displaying correctly in several browsers. It would display just fine in Firefox but in Safari, Chrome and Edge, not so much.
I looked at the code, tried to think of what I did last, downloaded the site and used a file comparison tool to show me the differences between the last saved good configuration and this one, disabled all plugins and so on in an effort to find the cause of the issue. I even went as far as to reach out to the theme creator to see if there was some issue between the theme and WP 5.0.3, as that was the last thing I remember doing, updating to 5.0.3 from 5.0.2.
After all that, I sat back and really had to think... Oh yeah! I recently changed my Site Speed setting from Accelerated to Extreme. I quickly popped in and turned Site Speed completely off. Bam! It worked. I refreshed several times, in all the browsers, just to make sure. I then enabled Site Speed again, still on Extreme, and the issue came back immediately. I changed to Accelerated and the issue went away.
This just goes to show you, there are so many places to look for issues before pulling your hair out (not in any particular order)
- Plugins
- Themes
- Site features such as Site Speed
- The last changes you made
I'm sure there's more but those are the main ones I can think of. If you have any issues, check these, one at a time, to help narrow down the cause.
I hope this little post/vent session helps someone else down the line.

There so much to know abuot technical issues have to be an expert
I’m one of those have to know how and why it works type of people. Issues like this drive me crazy.
I hear you, I feel the same but with time
Maybe we will know more then yesterday for sure, good luck
That's good information, Scott. Did you check with Support why that would happen with Extreme?
Colette and Philip
No but it does say in the description "SiteSpeed Extreme uses the same technology as the SiteSpeed Accelerated, however we take the optimization one step further by combining and minifying Javascript and CSS.".
I suspect it's that minimization that breaks it.
Thanks for this post. I have been having problems with Google Chrome. My images on my website were not loading.
I even contacted site support but their answers didn't really help although I tried all their suggestion.
So I decided to download Firefox and everything in this browser is working correctly.
I might just try the site speed for issues to see if that corrects the image problem in Google Chrome.
Thanks again
Regards
Janet
I just tried it out and it made no difference. I really think it is a Google Chrome issue.

The images on my website do not load. It looks like it's happening in Firefox too now.
