I’m loving the new Site Comments system but.I’m not sure I’m using it quite right.
What I’m doing
Im leaving comments, yes comments and not feedback. I’m leaving, what I think are, quality comments, related to the topic in question. My comments are being accepted (except for one). What I’m not getting is any kind of notification when my comment is responded to.
My Questions
Do I need to sign in somewhere?
Is there an option I need to enable?
Do I simply have to visit the posts now and then to see if there’s a response? If so that’s going to “suck” as I’ve left many many comments since I’ve started here.
What I’ve discovered
I’ve just gone to the site comments tool and looked at my accepted comments of the past and sure enough there were responses I never knew about. I’m trying to reply to them now but worry that my replies will not show in the thread but appear as new comments instead.
Are you experiencing the same? If so, do you have a system that works well for you?
Any hints, tips and solutions are welcome.

If the site owner used a plug-in you would be notified by e-mail that he/she has replied and you would then have a link to get back to the comment directly.
If we are looking for engagement then it is imperative that the owner institutes a method of encouraging engagement. A plug-in is the best way to do that.
And yes you are right if you go back to the older comments you have made here on WA then the reply will be there but I think that is a long way round and only applies to comments made by WA members and not the entire planet as a whole.
All you can do is ensure that you have a system in place on your site so that you don't end what could be some seriously good engagement with your audience.

Thanks for this because I've never heard of this plugin. I just installed it. I've been wondering about this myself because I've been replying to the comments and even answering questions, but no one ever comes back. And that doesn't look normal when people only make the one comment, but never reply to the replies

That's my whole issue. I'm all about using site comments to help people here in WA but I never know when they respond to my comments so I can go back and keep the conversation going.
I'm not lazy but I don't see myself checking every comment I've left over and over to see who might have replied. Hopefully this plugin works and if so I really would like to see us all using it. Not only does it help us here with the site comments tool but it will help us engage with our "actual" audience as it will let them know if/when we respond to their comments. I am willing to bet that a majority post and think they'll get some sort of response when we reply (after all, they enter their e-mail address) but they won't unless we have a plugin to alert them when we do respond.
Just my 2 cents.
