Don't Let the Distractions Keep You From Your Goals

Life happens. Maybe you've had a bad day at work. Maybe your children are fighting. Maybe you have an annoying family member requiring all of your free time. If you want to be successful, you have to make the time and keep working toward your goals.

I decided to write this post because this past week for me pretty much hit all the maybe's I listed above, and then some...

A Brief History of Major Distraction Number One:

My husband and I removed my mother-in-law from her home because my brother-in-law has been using and abusing her. He has substance abuse issues and has been on many "state sponsored vacations" over his lifetime. Along the way he had a couple of children that my mother-in-law had to raise while he was away.

These kids became, in essence, her kids and, sadly, tools and weapons that he could use against her when he returned. To make this long story a bit shorter, let's just say, he moved in, wouldn't pay for anything, used all the services she paid for and ate all the food. Again, without contributing toward any of it.

To make things worse, he'd move in the flavor of the day and whatever children she had, again expecting mom to pay for everything. If she brought any of this up, the response would be: "Fine, I'm taking the kids and moving out". This, of course, was his way of controlling her. Threatening to take the kids, that she raised, away from her.

Sadly, the kids started to follow in his footsteps and dropped out of school, started treating her like he does and so on. Add to all of this, 20+ dogs that were not house-trained and you can imagine what she was living in.

We had enough and we pulled her out. We're still in the process of evicting the others. The house is a loss and will be torn down and rebuilt.

Wait, There's More:

So, now you know why she's living with us. There's actually more to it. Because she was spending all this money, trying to keep the power on, food in the fridge and so on, she couldn't enjoy her retirement or keep up with her health.

Now that she's with us, we're making sure she's getting taken care of. We just had 1 knee replacement surgery completed and she's recovering from that. I think she's lost a lot of her will to try because I have to hound her to do the exercises and remind her to take her various medications.

Back to Distractions:

As you can imagine, taking care of mom, is practically a full-time job. With dealing with the horrible texts she's getting from them and her recovery, it takes a toll.

Now let's add on, work. I still work a full-time job, as my sites don't bring in enough for me to walk away yet. We've been going through a transition from what our company was doing to what it's moving to going forward. As such, it's taking a lot of my time as well.

A lot of this came together for me last week and just killed my goals. I try to write 6 posts a week (1 for WA - like this one, 3 for my WA promotion site, and 2 for my drone site) but I was only able to get 4 completed. I also try to leave 15 site comments every week, help people in Live Chat and through blog questions posted here and so on.

I actually managed to get most of it done. I'm actually 2 posts on my WA promotion site behind right now (if I count the one I have scheduled for today - so Friday's and Today's). I just finished my drone site post, that should have been posted last Thursday.

What's My Point?

What I'm trying to get at here is, even though life can throw a lot at you. Don't panic and give up. Don't skip your goals and start over. It's OK to be behind. Work to catch up. Don't let life keep you from your goals.

Instead of saying "Well I got 3 done, that's good enough", I wrote the 1 post I missed last week for my drone site this morning and posted it. As for the 2 I missed for my WA promotion site, I will post at least 1 today and f I don't get the second one done today, I will post it tomorrow. If I can do that, I'll be back on schedule.

How About You?

What tricks do you use to keep life from breaking your goals? What has life thrown at you and how did you handle it? Did you just skip the posts you missed on continue on your schedule?

I'd love to hear what you have to say. Leave a comment below.

"Maybe you have an annoying family member requiring all of your free time"....This has been the story of my life for some time now.

But not anymore...I have decided to not let distractions control my life and moving forward no matter what.

Thanks for this inspiring post! All the Best to you,
~T.

Thanks for the encouragement. My only distraction is having no good internet on my location. I don't have the convenience, it's just like I'm in the 1990s.

That can be difficult...is it internet at your home or in your region that's the issue?

It's in my home.

Do you have a laptop or tablet? Maybe you can visit a local establishment like a coffee house with a better connection to do your work. Another option is many library locations have computers with internet access you can use, use be sure to log out of any accounts you log into when you're done, since they are public use computers.

Yes, I do often times go to the computer shops but it costs me so much with little input. It's more convenient if I do my work at home.

Understandable

So far I've been able to keep up. Yes, I plan to fulfill all tasks that are assigned. So far so good.

Glad to hear it...I am no down to just being behind my goals by 1 post on my WA site. Everything else is now caught up. I'll remedy this missing post tomorrow.

Would you hire someone to write content for you?

I'd consider it but, as my living expenses have increased, I don't have a lot of money around at this time. It is my goal to have content creators working for my site.

laser focus every day everything else is secondary

I too have many distractions...but I am determined to keep the distractions at bay for my own sanity's sake as I am revelling in this training and WA Community. This is the best. We can all do this!

Whew - you have had a lot on your plate. So glad you didn't let it get you down and out. Hang on to the hope that things will get better, you're doing the right thing with your mom, I pray that she can get past this terrible experience. Congratulations on your progress in SAC. Keep up the good work.
Ray

Thanks!

Yeow, do you have enough on your plates? Take time for yourselves as well!

I do, I just don't want to give up any of my goals as far as my WA endeavors go. I will strive to get it all done in a reasonable time.

Scott, we really feel for you. We are so glad you posted this because you did exactly what you had to do and get her out of that situation. Hopefully, County was able to come over and take the dogs and get them into a safe shelter for adoption.

Your brother-in-law is toxic (we have known people like this) and you had to take action.

You are amazing with all the things you are going through and still getting some work done for your online business.

Keep us all updated. Our hearts are with you, your husband and his mom.

Colette and Philip

Thanks....We pulled her out back at the end of November. It's taken this long for her to see what he truly is and what he's made the kids into.

I know it's hard for a mother/grandmother to see such things but it needed to be seen.

Life is life, LOL. I tend to roll with the punches pretty well. I don't stress over much.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm one of the silent ones you need to look out for....will I break and lose it on someone...I can't say.

Thanks for the kind words,
Scott

Don't go Postal on us, Scott! We need you!:D

Seriously, make sure you take some time for yourselves because this is a challenge right now.

Big hugs,

C & P
