Has anyone Created their own Affiliate Program for their own product/service?

Hi everyone,
I eventually would like to add an affiliate program to one of my businesses after I work it hard for several months.
Has anyone done this with your product and/or service?
I'm sure there are a number of services for this on the net, but I would like to hear some first hand experience.

Hi Mel,
A couple things for you to consider moving into a venture like this.
If handling this on your own
* meticulous records need kept as you will need to provide 1099 (in the U.S.., not sure about elsewhere) to your marketers, as well as keep accurate track of all sales attributed to the seller.
* If handling delivery, you'll also need to charge appropriate sales/use taxes for the various localities and make sure they are submitted timely.
I'm sure there are other headaches involved, but I'm going to guess this is why many affiliate programs use third party companies such as Clickbank, AwIn etc to manage this for them.

We're in the process of setting this up. Still early days. When we've progressed further and have our model finalised I'd be happy to share any learnings.
