Food-Drink Craving Sparks Another Income Source

Last Update: March 25, 2021

Welcome Everyone!

Living on the opposite side of the planet from the USA, I can be difficult and sometimes impossible to find some of my favorite things.

The last time I had a Dr Pepper here to drink was about 5 years ago.

It came up in conversation yesterday and I decided to search online for Philippine sources.

Found some cans selling.

Previously, I thought it wasn't possible for me to order online here with the hassle of a USA debit card being accepted/rejected.

Well that was my erroneous American thinking. (Just a metaphor again Jeff ;-) )

You do NOT have to prepay.

Almost everything is COD Cash on Delivery.

It also turns out shipping in country is much, much cheaper than I imagined.

So I have 24 cans of Dr Pepper en route and I also searched for and found Cheetos Cheese Puffs and ordered 5 bags of that. Cheetos Crunchy is widely available here, but I prefer the Cheese Puffs.

What a treat!

So how does this turn into an income source?

Well I checked into what it costs to sell on those sites and one major site the cost was ZERO commissions. So we can sell for free there.

I assume they are making their money on larger companies which have to pay a 5% commission.

Ebay back in the late 1990's was the first site I started selling things online.

We just have to find hard to find items and resell them online.

I already started making a list of a number of American products that occasionally show up in the local malls and checking their availability and pricing on these sites.

There are hundreds of thousands of westerners living in the Philippines who certainly miss things they used to be able to get easily in the USA.

So if in Early April you see fireworks off in the distance, it is just me celebrating my Dr Pepper with Cheetos Cheese Puffs snack.

To say I am excited about it, is an understatement!

What's next?

Well we could expand that because there are companies that will ship goods from the USA to here that would be much cheaper than if you did that yourself. It can be very expensive to ship even a small item over here and it may never arrive either.

That might be something I try later this year.

I'll think about that while having my snack in April. ;-)

There are income opportunities all around us!

Sounds like you are really into something there Mel. Working out your logistics and supply chain will be key but it sounds like you have an overly receptive market so go for it.

Hugh, are you selling those T&T souvenirs tourists forgot or didn't have the time to purchase. I would think anything tourist related collecting those emails would be like gold for continued sells/upsells to remember the awesome time they had in T&T.

Where are you exactly in the Philippines? I am from Bohol, but living in Spain. My husband has been there twice for vacation and he sees business everywhere he looks,:)
