WA Affiliate Program
Updated

Dear WA affiliate program experts,

Very concretely, how can monthly premium members take advantage of the Black Friday deal to upgrade to yearly membership?

Thank

Nathalie,

On 11/27, go to the WA search at the top the page (the black and grey area and search on Black Friday sign-up promotion. There is a link you can click on, in the content, that will allow you to sign up. Hope this helps.

Barbara

Thanks a lot, Barbara! :-)

Nathalie

No Problem!

Barbara

Hey Nathalie,

Kyle answered that question in the Q&A part of his post shared here: Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks a lot, Trish! :-)

Nathalie

I’d like to know

You do now, Josephine! :-)

Nathalie

It's the best deal ever Nathalie!

Jeff

Yes, indeed, Jeff! :-)

Nathalie

Yes.

You will get a discount on the US$299 as credit for any unused time that you have on a pro-rata basis with your new-renewal data pushed forward to the same date next year.

You won't be "double charged" for any days that you have already paid for if you take advantage of the special offer.

"For members upgrading from Monthly to Yearly/Black Friday Special offer while within a monthly billing cycle, billing is pro-rated as the member has already paid for the month or part of the month" Kyle

If it is how...

Just wait until the special offer comes up and then renew.

Thanks a lot, Derek! That brings me to my next question and if I understand correctly, you already gave me the answer...

My monthly renewal is due on November 28 but the Black Friday Deal only starts on November 29... I was thinking of asking Kyle to delay my monthly payment... but it sounds like it doesn't matter, right?

I have seen a grace period for some members. I would just get the Black Friday deal when it comes.

Thanks, Alexandra! :-)

Nathalie

Thanks, Christie! :-)

The title of my question says it all. :-)

Thanks in advance for your response and have a beautiful Sunday.

Nathalie

I asked Help once if I can use my credit to do things like that. They said they will check and get back to me. Unfortunately they never did. Quite unlike WA.

I therefore concluded that it wasn't possible.

Thank you, Akoli! 😀

Nathalie

I seem to be in the same grove. I am getting the idea that commenting and building credits is more of what WA is about than building successful websites. I just can't seem to get started before my attention is invited elsewhere. I am not sure what conclusion to come to. Asking for help seems to introduce another question. Good Luck, guess the best thing to do is stay positive and keep trying.

I don't think WA is more interested in credits than building websites. Many more people build sites here than concern themselves with credits. If you stay positive, as you say, you may just succeed.

Thanks. I plan to stay positive and keep learning. At my age the learning curve is a little different, but sure. Al

Hi - I believe you can buy a domain with credits, but you can't pay for renewal with them.

Correct Diane. I have bought a domain last year using credits and needed to renew it this month. You can only renew with:

1 - Credit Card
2 - PayPal

Thank you, Diane! 😀

Nathalie

Thanks a lot, Rika! 😀

Nathalie

I don't seem to be able to get to the point of purchasing a domain before getting side tracked. Building Credits seem to be more important than building a website. Am I looking at this wrong?

Hi - if you wish to purchase your own .com domain, it will cost $13.99 per year. Go to Websites then Domains.

I am too new to comprehend what you mean about paying renewal. I assume this is the Domain you are referring to. Al

Hi - the comments about renewal were in answer to a question that was asked 2 months ago, so that may be a bit confusing.

It seems you are getting wrong answers here. No, you cannot pay by credits, this is easy to check, try to renew and it will give options. None is related to WA credits.

I agree Jovo. You can buy a domain with credits but not renew it with credits:))

Thank you, Jovo! 😀

Nathalie

Thank you, Rika! 😀

Nathalie

I am confused as to what WA credits are for. Is it more important to have the WA Credits or have the Website

Just check your credit in dollars. As long as you have enough to renew you can. I bought two domains with my credit.

All the best to you.

Edwin

Hi Edwin. You can buy a domain with credits but not renew it with credits:))

Thank you, Edwin.

Nathalie

Thank you, Rika! 😀

Nathalie

I am still trying to purchase a domain and seem to get side tracked by WA credits. I am just a rookie and have not sorted thid opportunity out yet. I will with patience and time.

You certainly can Nathalie. When you go to purchase the domain You will be given the option. Jim

Hi Jim. You can buy a domain with credits but not renew it with credits:))

Thank you, Jim. 😀 I am not trying to buy a domain but renew one.

Nathalie

Thank you, Rika! 😀

Nathalie

There is a way around this though. You can send your cash credits to Pay Pal and then use Pay Pal to pay for your domain. Jim

Thanks Jim:))

Thank you, Jim. 😀

My old Huawei is letting me down... I am not ready yet to buy a $600-700 phone, so I was wondering... what reasonably-priced phone would you recommend to make YouTube videos? <

I like my One Plus 6 phone it's about 500 USD

Thanks a lot, Tommy! :-)

Nathalie

Hi Nathalie, is there any reason why you would want to use a phone instead of another media form.

Yes, Michael. My phone is broken so I have to replace it anyway. + I know I always have my phone with me, even if it's turned off or on plane mode, whereas I know I would forget a separate camera.

Great point. Kind of interested in the situation with the US extraditing a top Huawei executive from Canada. China is not happy with the decision with Canada and the US. Hopefully it does not affect any the trading between these countries.

The US extraditing a top Huawei executive from Canada? I did not know... why did they do that?

Suspicion of treason against the US. It was in front of a Vancouver this morning. It really should not change things with what your choice. I see SuzStroh just below, provided you with a link.

I had an old Huawe P9 Plus that took decent photos and videos. The screen cracked late last year, and my latest phone is now the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. And it is Awesome!

The quality of videos is excellent. For poor light conditions, there is the night mode that really captures superbly. On the phone screen, a night image can look really dark at the start. After I click the capture button, the AI in the phone takes over, and brings in more light to make the image brighter and clearer.

I was out in town with a friend when he visited recently. He was using a Nikon camera. As we went around to take photos and videos, he was amazed at how good the Huawei is. He is now considering buying one. And knowing him, I know he will.

Here is a link to a photo taken with night mode - https://bit.ly/2NGW9q0

Hope this helps? :)

Thank you so much, Timotheus! :-) This is SUPER helpful indeed!!

Does the night mode work for videos too?
And did you use anything to stabalize your phone to make that amazing night shot or were you just holding it in your hands?

Nathalie

You're welcome, Nathalie.

The night mode is a function by itself. And seems to work only for photos.

And yet, the video is still good in low lighting. The AI adjusts accordingly. Of course, there is a limit when it gets too dark.

The phone camera has excellent stabilizing feature. In the old Huawei P9 Plus, there was none. And I had to do video stabilization during post production.

With the new Huawei Mate 20 Pro, there is a stabilizing feature. So, I just hold it in my hands, and snap.

The feature is excellent when taking videos now. No more need for doing stabilizing during post production. I tested it when I first bought it. I 'rocked' the phone while taking a video. And the video produced was very stable. Very happy with this feature! :)

Go to a phone shop or telco shop to test the camera. I am sure you will love it! :)

Thanks a lot, Timotheus! :-) I had a look online and the camera specs are impressive indeed. It is still out of my current budget for now, but let's see how the Universe helps me find a solution. :-)

Nathalie

I haven't taken the YouTube venture yet but I am curious. With your network provider are you able to add a tablet to your plan. This could be a solution.
The tablet I have with Verizon, is my second one but on the same plan since 2014. Tablets are a lot less expensive than phones.

Sonny

Thanks a lot, Sonny! :-)

My network provider does sometimes offer free (or almost free) phones to customers who sign up for monthly plans for 2 years... I am currently on a prepaid plan so I could benefit from such an offer if I decided to go onto a monthly plan... I'm just not sure this is worth being bound to them for so long... I'm kind of a free spirit... I like having the option to change my mind each month if I want to... ;-)

I use an Huawei 20 Pro I think it is which was an upgrade from my old phone for doing video

Though it's not a phone I also use the Pro version of screencast and Wistia

Thanks a lot, Dave! :-)

Nathalie

You are welcome

Instead of buying a phone (and spend $200-$1000) i would recommend you to buy a camera. It doesn't have to be an expensive one.

I would recommend you to have light in your videos. Unfortunately, this is something that you will have to buy eventually.

I would recommend you to get c920 Logitech (not a promotion or anything)

I just use it when i talk at Skype and it never failed me in terms of quality.

Also, in my opinion, is a camera that will last for the long term.

Thanks a lot, Ioannis! :-)

Nathalie

Having read about you second YT video, I think this is great advice from Ioannis.

Ioannis, I just checked it out and this is a webcam. I need a camera I can always have with me, including outside of the house...

I do keep this info for when I have a budget for a new webcam, absolutely! Thank you so much!

Nathalie

Thanks a lot, Steve. The camera recommended by Ioannis is a webcam. I need a camera I can always have with me, including outside of the house...

Nathalie

Oh, i thought you wanted the webcam to make videos only from home.

By the way i still believe that you can find a decent camera instead of buying a phone.

If you just starting with YT and you also need a phone, i found out that Huawei Mate 10 (lite) and P20 have a good quality for videos. The only "bad" thing that you have to be able to keep them steady. If you want a camera i can search it and tell you my opinion. I've searched it a bit for myself.

Wish you luck,

Wow!! Thank you so much for your offer to help further, Ioannis. I really appreciate.

I think that the first step is to go with a new phone because I need to replace mine anyway. Thank you for your opinion about the Huawei models you mention. Part of me would like to continue with Huawei... it's familiar...

Thanks again!

Nathalie

I was thinking more about what he said about lighting rather than the camera. Sorry, I should have read your question again.

All is good, Steve. :-)

Nathalie

Hello Ioannis.

I am coming back to your suggestion of a webcam.

I have been recording videos for a training using my laptop built-in webcam. The image quality is terrible BUT I find that being able to look at my face while recording allows me to make better videos in terms of emotional connection.

So maybe I should indeed also invest in a new webcam...

I am just wondering if having an external webcam will still allow me to face my screen when recording... Will I not have to look at the webcam instead? Maybe there is a way to position the webcam in line with my eyes?

What do YOU do?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Nathalie

I use an iPhone 6 to make YouTube videos. I add an external stereo mic for improved sound quality. It takes some fiddling with the light balance on the phone to get the right exposure. Low lighting video is barely acceptable. I would suggest a dedicated video camera if you want the best video quality. No matter how good a phone camera is, you are not able to control the settings like a video or even a SLR digital camera would give you.

Thanks a lot, Edwin! :-)

Nathalie

TJSchlenker makes a good point that buying a camera at that price point might be a better investment

Added lighting will be needed anyways

However Apple does come with editing software so that rids you of that headache

And the Imovie app is pretty cool for editing especially for beginners

So if you can get an Iphone 7plus for like 400 bucks and buy under your budget allocating funds elsewhere

Thanks a lot, Shannon! :-) I'm not a Mac user. I've tried in the past but I just couldn't make the change... I am so used to PCs...

Nathalie

I never record with a phone. The difference next to a real camera is pretty large, in my experience.

Whatever you end up going with, just make sure everything is well LIT. That really determines how professional the video looks.

Thanks a lot, Tj! :-)

Yes, I know about the importance of the light... I have not found a solution yet for the rainy days... The video I made and published on YouTube yesterday is a great case-study of terrible light... but I HAD to finish it yesterday AND it was rainy AND my indoor lights are just terrible. Get the right light is on my to-buy list for the future...

Nathalie

When I first started I just bought two CLAMP LIGHTS from the local hardware store for about $7 each. Worked like a charm... ;-)

Excellent!! I like this kind of tips!!! $7 each is definitely within my budget. ;-)

Thanks a zillion, Tj!

Nathalie

What about an iPhone, not necessarily the latest, 6, 6+, maybe...

Thank you, Jane! I have this idea, maybe I'm wrong, that iPhones are good for people who use a Mac. I use a PC... Am I wrong to think that?

Not everybody who's got an Iphone uses a Mac

I use both.. the systems seems to handle the cross platform.. My laptop is PC while my phone is apple

I use the 256 iphone x for the camera and editing my video as well
My laptop i use to test run everything

There are the answers Nathalie..,

Me too

That's awesome

I'm even noticing the allowance of syncing the two. It's all pretty simple now

Thank you, Rohit! :-)

Nathalie

Thanks a lot, Shannon! :-)

Best of luck shopping and you are most welcome

I have no sound problem on my computer when I watch the video I shot today, but once it's on Youtube, the sound is not good (it's kind of "jumping" every 5-10 seconds).

Not happened to me me yet but hope you get it sorted

Thanks, Dave! :-) Nope, did not get it sorted. I just re-shot my video with my phone instead of my laptop this time. :-)

Well, I was not able to solve this! So I just re-recorded my video. This time I used my phone and everything went well. :-)

Hi! Not exactly familiar with YouTube's processes, but I have a few ideas.

1. Check your video on another device. It's possible the first device you used might be missing certain files to play back properly, but if it played fine on your computer, then...

2. Make sure your device has a good internet connection. It sounds almost like your video might be buffering the audio a bit. If your speeds are good, then...

3. Try to reupload your video. Again, I'm not entirely sure about how YouTube works with video uploads, but there might have been a glitch when uploading it. Your first instinct about re-uploading may just solve the issue!

Thanks a lot, Cornelius! :-)

I have seldom had that problem. The few times I did the culprit seemed to be my internet connection speed.

ok. Thank you, Jim! :-)

I’m not much help in this area yet :( . But would love to follow the thread -for sure this will be a big help for me in the near future.

Looking forward to that time when I am ready to do a YouTube video.

Best of luck -hope you get this issue resolved.

Thank you, Terri! :-) I hope so too!

There could be many reasons. Did you shoot the video using the camera on your phone? I’ve had sound problems with my phone before I discovered the little openings for the Mic were clogged up. After I unclogged the Mic the sound improved I hope this helps.

Thank you, Edwin. I used my computer/laptop. And when I replay the video on my computer/laptop there is no sound problem.

Thanks everyone!
