Things I wish I'd known when I'd first started at WA

I first joined WA in 2014. I was keen. I was eager. I wanted this. I started a website. Within weeks I dropped off. Why? I knew this was the real deal. I knew this could work. Yet still I disappeared.

I came back about a year later. I started again. I started a new website. Within weeks I dropped off. Why??

I came back about a year later. I started again. I started yet another new website. Within weeks I dropped off. Why???

I came back about three weeks ago. I started working on the site I created last year. I went back over previous lessons to ensure I hadn't missed anything. I started putting up content. I started responding in chat. I started responding to messages on the board. I started asking questions. And guess what - I started to see results. I have ads on my site. I'm getting comments - albeit from WA people - but I'm getting comments. I'm getting PM's. I'm getting followers on WA. What am I doing differently this time?

What I wish I had figured out three years ago:

  • Take it at your own pace - some are new at this and others have experience.
  • This is not a race - you are no better or no worse than other people just different.
  • Don't worry about what everyone else is doing - your journey is yours and their journey is theirs.
  • Ask for help - in chat, on the boards, in PM - reach out and just ask!
  • Help others - in helping others you can often help yourself. People remember when you helped them and you may need their help in the future.
  • Set goals - since coming back I have surpassed my goals and am re-evaluating them almost daily.
  • Find a mentor or mentors. Follow someone who has helped you or you've seen help others.
  • Read others blogs.
  • Look at training - not just the content from Kyle and Carson.
  • Form alliances with others on WA in your niche. You can help each other because even though your niche may be the same, your approach will be different. Everyone is different and has a different style in their layouts, in their writing. Some consumers will like your style better and some will like another style better - we're back to "you are no better or no worse than other people just different".
  • Just enjoy it!!!

What I've achieved in three weeks:

  • Ads on my site - Google and affiliate sites
  • Loads of content - I worked on getting a new page/post a day for a couple of weeks although now I'm pacing myself
  • I've updated pages/posts that needed a revamp
  • On 3 November I made Rank 199 on WA - I was in the top 200.
  • On 4 November I dropped to Rank 200 on WA - I needed to work harder to sustain this.
  • On 5 November I made Rank 172 on WA - I'm moving up rapidly
  • On 6 November I made Rank 149 on WA - Wow! It just keeps going up. How does this keep happening? This time I am helping others, I am asking for help, I am writing blogs.
  • On 6 November I searched for my site incognito on Google and found two of my posts ranking on page one with their keywords.

So I'm making progress. Every day I am feeling a bit more confident in my ability to do this. Each day before I go to bed I write my goals for the next day. I know what I want to achieve.

Just remember we're in this together. We're a family at Wealthy Affiliate. We've got each others back!

Fantastic, Megan! I just read your re-entry post, that didn't sound nearly as positive as this. I love the goal setting that I see more and more creating.
Keep up the good work!
Barb

You inspire me. Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you.

And an update to this post - I just noticed I have made Rank 125 today - I am amazed how this has happened. Being a part of this community works. It helps your site and it helps you.

BRILLIANT to read because it is nearly the same as I was and I know many others as well

Paul

My favorite tip out of all the amazing ones on here - "Don't worry about what everyone else is doing - your journey is yours and their journey is theirs."

So very true.

I wish I'd figured that out three years ago because who knows where I'd be today. Then again I've learned a lot by my repeated "failure".

Onward and upward I say!
