when you put images on some of your social sites to not show or are some grey avatar
Also you have an alternative to make sure at least a caption shows up if not the picture.
It's part of the "Open Graph" technology that several social platforms are now using. See this - it normally fixes it: Facebook Sharing - No Image Displayed
Interesting question, and I would like to follow this comment thread to see if anyone has the answer?

Why do some pictures not show up on social sites ?
when you put images on some of your social sites to not show or are some grey avatar
PjGermain did a training on this subject. Search for it in the white question bar above. Basically it has to do with what KatieMac said. But sometimes, even if that doesn't work, it should work with a featured image. But you still need to go into the social tab and click "debug" or whatever after you've selected the picture, etc.

I am trying to find out what the requirements for pictures on Google + and other social media to share
I am not aware of specific size requirement, however I do know that google does not see the pictures when it crawls your site which is why it is important to give tags to them
I don't use big pictures and none of them have been rejected but I don't know the exact dimensions Google allows.
Ed
Hi Max, It looks as if you have some good info here. I have recently been going over the pics on my sites to meke them thumbnail to try to improve my page speed. The info for G+ is good to know as I seem to get more trafic fom there than other SM.
Marty
I have read that for Google + the ideal size for the image you upload is 1080 x 608 pixel. The smallest image you can use is 480 x 270 and the largest image you can use is 2120 x 1192 pixel.
It varies from place to place. I keep mine at 72dpi with the longest side set at 600px - that's larger than some need but what etsy wants (where I have a shop for selling prints of my art). It seems to work most everywhere set like that.
One other thing to consider when setting photo sizes. The smaller the size, the harder it is for someone to take that photo and print it out to a decent resolution. If that concerns you, you might want to set the longest side at more like 400px. I do that with photos I've gotten from wikimedia. At that size I can then import into my wordpress site and customize the image as I want it to appear.
I asked recently about Gplus and got some answer, see below. Cannot say much about other media. For Pinterest I use 'pin it' so it goes directly from the post where I keep them small, below 100 kB. How people add large pictures in google plus?

I need to make my website more friendly for patrons
To build a site with responsive design, there are two approaches:
1-Create an adaptive website with multiple fixed width layouts based on common devices. (Note: This approach can be challenging due to changing device sizes).
2-Design it using multiple fluid grid layouts to create a truly responsive user experience.
To check if your website is mobile friendly:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/
Check to see if your theme is "responsive," meaning it can adapt to different devices.
A cool website to check out how your website looks on different devices is https://www.responsinator.com/. All you need to do is provide your website address and it will show you what your site looks like on iphone 5, iphone 6, android, etc.
You're welcome!
Because of Max's question, it motivated me to write something more about this yesterday. Here it is: Checking Website Responsiveness There are more sites where you can do some checking. It's kind of fun.
Take care! =)
Most Wordpress themes try to make themselves mobile friendly by creating special provisions for displaying content on smaller screens. Look carefully at the code on the Stylesheet. On most themes you will see "media screen" at various points within the Stylesheet. This is all about altering the display for different size screens.
Run Google Pagespeed Insights and it will tell you what your landing page looks like on mobile devices and what they think is wrong with it.
Hi max - just look at you mobile and you will see what wrong - usually pics too big or spacing wrong or paragraphs wrong just means playing around
You have to use a theme that is "responsive". This will make it visibly more attractive to all mobile devices.
Barry
There are many. Just look through a bunch of them. The details will tell you if they're responsive or not. I've used three or four that were responsive with good mobile results.
Hi Max. Loes made a training on this exact subject that might be of great help to you: Make Your Website Mobile Friendly

Loes, my ID used to be numbers and then I changed it to my name. Does that make a difference? I just realized I haven't updated that here.
I don't know if it makes a difference, I have just updated it, because of this question, I went to do a check-up, and saw the difference just now
You have the possibility to change the number into a name, only once, I did that and changed my account into https://plus.google.com/+LoesKnetsch
no numbers.
