I activated the Adsense plugin.
I then inserted ads in the content of a blog.
However, I only see large blank spaces on my post where the ads code was inserted.

When add the ads for the 1st time on a website, google first checks your website to see if it qualifies for Google Ads. This normally takes about 24hours.
Check your G Ads account for updates from Google. They will let you know if your site has been given the go ahead.

Adsense doesn't work of the free site rubix subdomains because you have to prove you own the domain name before you get approved by Adsense.
It can take anything from a few minutes to a couple of weeks for the ads to actually show up, even after your website has been approved. If you have an adblocker in your browser you won't see them.
You don't need a plugin to display Adsense Adsense Without a Plugin

I thought I'd try them on my free WA website while completing the lessons. Thanks for letting me know google ads don't work on the free sites.

I read the same, it might take three days, may be delayed over the weekend too. I also got a warning not to have your friends click on your ads, just to help you make a few pennies,,, Google Ad Sense will ban you and then it will not be easy, not to say impossible, to get back to them....
I am in the prosess of becoming an affiliate for WA and Amazon. That seem safer and more secure projects,

I have been trying to build my site.
Each time I click on the green button "Click Here to Build This Site" I get this error message "Oops! We ran into an error on our side a
I've never encountered that, but I know whenever basic functions aren't working for whatever reason, backing out and just restarting your machine can actually clear many of the problems. Try that and see if it helps. :)
I did that and now it seems to have emptied the cache.
So now I can login to my admin panel.
However all I see is some generic text - not the template I selected.
I will pick up at this point tomorrow after work.

Themes will not always look the same when you preview them (before you install them) versus when you actually start using them as there are features, images, etc. that can change the look of your website.
Not to worry at all here though, that is quite normal and as you build out your website, the design and look will evolve as you create content.
