Leaderboard Ads

These are going to be the typical ad you will see on a website, which has certain dimensions of 90 px on one side and the bottom will be 728Ppx and double one on the right. The dimensions of that on will be 250px on the side and the bottom will be 300px.

Leaderboard ads are the first thing people see when they enter your site and are one of the best for advertisers and publishers.

Example of leaderboard ads: when you first enter a website and you see an ad at the top of the page and it is so big you can't help but click on it because of its relevance.

When you should use Leaderboard Ads: when you want a large audience to see your ad and to get more attention to the ad.

Banner Video Ads

This is much larger than the leaderboard and will take up more space and can shrink back to the leaderboard size. This is considered a rich media ad and with animation to make you click on it until you click off the ad the dimensions are 970px by 250px. You will see this in a large section of the page.

Example of billboard video Ad: When you sure the web and you enter a website and you get the ad that won't go away unless you click the X button.

  1. The user doesn't fully realize they are clicking on an ad.
  2. This does not mess with them interacting with the content.
  3. Can appear at the top, or the sidebar.

When this would be good to use for a marketer, when the user is interested in what the video is about and how relevant it is to them. sometimes it could be easy for them to click off if they do not like it or not relevant.

Side-Kick Ads

Another rich media ad, which means it will pop out of the page and allow interaction to happen within the ad before you even click on it to go to the website. Dimensions 300px by 250px ad 700px by 850px as you click through it grows in dimensions to further interact beyond the ad. It is with the IAB.

Example of Side-Kick Ads: This is going to be when you are on a website and see the ad and you hover over the ad it gets bigger so you can see it fully.

  1. it is easy to see with the dimensions
  2. When you hover on top of the ad it gets bigger
  3. Helps with getting more interaction

How marketers can utilize Side-kick Ads: If they are relevant to the user then you will have a better chance of them converting than then, not with non-relevant ads hurting your conversion.

Push-Down Ads

Push-down ads are literally what it sounds like it pushes the content down as you scroll and close the ad. It scrolls back up to leaderboard or billboard size and then the user can scroll down and see the content. This is getting to be more popular in the market to use, it allows you to play videos within the ad. These dimensions are 970px by 418pxn so when you do an ad you will know the correct size.

Example of push-down ads: when you visit a page and the ad moves when you scroll and you have to push the X button to see the content.

  1. You can get more attention with this method of ads
  2. Able to get the right size message across to the readers
  3. Ad Moves with them scrolling in the web page

When should marketers utilize this method of advertisements; when they are on the page and getting ready to scroll past the ad it goes with them so they must interact.

Compare & Contrast Display Advertisements and PPC Ads

Display Ads; Are very popular way to attract new customers, traffic, and users to the website or to interact with the ad. This is found at the top of the sidebar of the web page or the middle of the content so it can get engagement if relevant to the reader. Display ads are known for their effectiveness and if relevant this can increase your sales or leads generating new traffic to the website. Make sure to personalize to fight your brand so it is relevant to the readers or audience.

PPC Ads; is basically in a nutshell, an ad tied back to the company with certain keywords that are paid for to generate new traffic to the website or on search engines. You have to pay a certain amount of money for the clicks on the ad. That is based on how much you set it to you can set if bids or low bids for keywords so you can rank high and generate new leads from the number of clicks to the website through the ad, mostly want conversions so it pays for itself. If not your losing out and need to find a new strategy to gain more revenue than lose money through non-converted clicks.

These are similar in getting new traffic and conversions and leads to your website, but the way you pay for the advertisement is totally different.

Display Ads- are good to use when your products have a good visual for the reader and only show to those who search your website or if others share them, or you rank #1 in (SERP). With Videos, E-books, text. infographics to engage with your intended audience or readers with image Ads. You can create good awareness of your brand with display advertisements so that you can build up to high paid advertisements.

PPC Ads- This is so that you have control over the ad and who sees it and how much you have to bid so you get a good spot so your keywords and reach potential customers and generate new leads or conversions. You can increase your traffic to your website if you have relevant ads to present to your audience and viewers. You only pay for the click that goes to the actual website so you don't miss out on money or waste money.

Thank you for this very useful piece Matthew. I normally try to delete ads as soon as they appear so if it is possible to be attractive and not be annoying as perhaps the leaderboards ads are there may be a shot with surfers like me. Will check it out further and feedback. Thanks again.

Display and PPC Advertisements do tend to get more attraction now than ever because it is relevant to the searcher.
With bigger in your face some times it is annoying, but they are being personal with them such as mentioning you by name.
This can be a good thing and bad thing depends on how the audience or viewer receives the message, or what mood are they in, is it relevant to my needs, or wants.
