I think many websites have a "Recommended tools" page, where you list the apps and tools you like to use for blogging or other things in your life.

Yes, Mary. I have all my pages indexed.

Wish I could help. I do wish you the best in resolving the issue.

I bought a domain 3 weeks ago and I got the same message from Google. They recommended that I should allow them to index my privacy page. Well, I was thinking, "no" lol because almost all of us here use the same privacy policy generated here at WA. It's weird. :p

Hey Maria,

Sounds like you may be referring to Pretty Links: as the older HTML version was to use a folder called "recommends".

If you are using the older HTML version, you will benefit greatly by converting those links to Pretty Links.

So, no... Google does not index Pretty Links but the posts that these links are on.

Hope you find this helpful.

Hey, I didn't know Google doesn't index Pretty Links.

Thanks for this, Trish!

No, I don't mean Pretty links.
I just have a page on my website (you can see it on the right. The name is MoCashForYou)
It's just a list of things I like.
Many blogs have something similar.
I marked it as "no index", same as my privacy policy

If you've marked it NOINDEX than Google shouldn't be indexing it.

:-)

I would leave it as it is. If G decided to index the page, it's good for you.

Did G specified what issues with the page. I believe there must reason what the real issue with the page. If you have assigned the page as no-index, then you may ignore G message as that is what you want i.e. no index.

Hi,

I need the option to change the font and the text color in the posts. My free theme (moving to ColorMag) is not supporting font changes, only Pro version.

answered

The new Gutenberg has you covered on this.

Do you mean it will make it possible to change fonts in any theme?
How about setting a default font for the whole site?

Anyway, yes, I installed it on my sandbox website this morning. Going to see if it helps
Thank you

I tried Gutenberg, but couldn't find any font changing options. What am I missing?

Hi, Mary, the problem with plugins like TinyMCE Advanced is you have to highlight each paragraph to change the color and font size. If you have a lot of pages and posts, this can be quite time consuming.

Placing some CSS code in the Additional CSS in the theme's customizer will automatically change size and color of paragraphs throughout your site, and in future posts and pages. Don't panic! You don't have to start writing CSS code, it's all done for you in the theme's stylesheet.

If you want to try doing this, first, on the dashboard click on Appearance>Editor, this will open up the theme's stylesheet. Now scroll down until you see this:
p {
line-height: 1.6;
margin-bottom: 15px;
font-family: 'Open Sans', serif;
font-size: 15px;
}
Highlight it and copy it.

Now go back to the dashboard and click on Appearance>Customize. In the customizer scroll down until you see Design Options, click on this and at the bottom of the list that opens up click on Custom CSS and paste what you copied from the stylesheet into it. Now you can start making changes.

Let's take it step-by-step: Line-height. If you want to increase or decrease the space between lines change the 6 to a higher or lower digit.

Margin-bottom: Again, by increasing or decreasing the pixels changes the space between each individual paragraph.

Font-family: If you're happy with Open Sans, that's fine, just delete the single quotes, Custom CSS doesn't recognize them, otherwise your text will revert to Times Roman. Not sure why they have serif as the alternative to Open Sans. Normally, when using a sans-serif font, you're alternative should be another sans-serif font, so I would place sans- in front of serif, making it sans-serif.

Font-size: If you're using Open Sans as your font, then I would recommend increasing the pixel size to 17 or 18.

Font-color: To change the color of your text you will need to add the following after the font size: "color: #444444;" (without the quotes).

Not sure whether you want to darken or lighten the text. The hex default color of your text is #444444, so decreasing these figures by the corresponding lower figure, i.e. #333333, will darken the text, down to #000000, which is black. To lighten the text revert the procedure and increase the digits, i.e. #555555.

Any changes you make in Custom CSS will show on the post or page in the Customizer, so you can play around with it as much as you like until your happy with the result, then click on Save and Publish. Don't worry, you won't crash your site, if you're not happy with the results, just delete the Custom CSS and everything reverts back to the theme's stylesheet.

I hope the above helps you to change the appearance of your posts and pages. If you decide to try it and need any further help, don't hesitate to give me a shout

Thank you so much, I'll try this.
One more question: what fonts I can use in the CSS?
Can it be something like Helvetica or Tahoma?
Is there a list from which I can choose?

Hi, Mary, most O/S have certain fonts, known as safe web fonts built in, so they appear the same on different devices, so it's always wise to choose a recognized safe web font for your site. Choosing fonts outside the safe web fonts may look pretty on your site, but may not look the same on someone else's device.

Windows and Mac have pretty much the same safe web fonts, although the actual font size may appear slightly smaller on a Mac than on Windows, Mac attempting to keep the font size exactly as it was designed, whereas Windows increases the size slightly, apparently to make it easier to read, so you may need to increase font size on a Mac if you want it to appear the same size as on Windows.

Yes, you can use Helvetica, but I wouldn't use Tahoma, it may not appear on some devices, and tends to be slightly condensed, which makes it hard to read at smaller sizes. there are much better options, but if you do use it make sure you include alternative choices.

ARIAL is one of the most popular and widely used safe fonts on the web.
HELVETICA is also quite popular, and often used as a "back-up" to Arial.
VERDANA is a good choice, it has a large x-height and small ascenders and descenders, which means it doesn't need as larger font size and as much line height as some safe fonts (explained in Image 1 below).
TREBUCHET is also quite widely used on the web.

There are others you can use, but using any of the above will pretty much guarantee your website will appear the same on other devices, but it is always advisable to back-up your original choice with alternative fonts to allow a font similar to the original choice, if not available, to be used in its place.

My personal choice would be, purely for the reason stated above:
font-family: verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif.

There are a number of serif fonts available as safe web fonts, but they don't lend themselves very well to web design. Mostly designed for books and newspapers, they don't read as well as sans-serif fonts, Take a look at most authority websites, Google, Wikipedia, Amazon, and our own WA site, they all use sans-serif. fonts

TIMES ROMAN, with its small x-height, it was originally designed for the Times newspaper to accommodate as much copy as possible into the given column inches.
TIMES NEW ROMAN, an update to the original Times Roman, and like Arial, is the most popular and widely used serif font on the web.
COURIER, a monospaced font, where all the characters are the same, or fixed, width (similar to a typewriter) rather than the width of the actual character.
PALATINO, can be effective with a sans-serif font if used as a header.
GEORGIA, although a serif font, is similar in style to Verdana as it has a large x-height and small ascenders and descenders.

I hope this helps in giving you some idea of the versatility available to design and lay out your website using a combination of CSS and HTML. Using any of the above fonts with Custom CSS you can experiment as much as you like: change your text from sans-serif to serif, headers from serif to sans serif, make headers a different color from the text.

Just one tip you may consider: try not to use more than two different fonts on your site. Using too many fonts can slow down your site, as they all have to be uploaded before your website becomes visible to the visitor. If your site takes too long to upload, the visitor will probably hit the back button, potential customer lost.

WOW, I think it's a waste to have all this here as a comment.
I think you should make a post or a training out of it.
I just learned the difference between serif and sans serif fonts.
The article was this: https://www.bloggingcage.com/fonts-for-websites/

I looked in the CSS code, found the places for the general text, as you said, and the headers.
But I'm still not sure how to change the code.
Let's say I want sans serif font for the text, Verdana, and different font for the headers, where the letters look more bold (full). Maybe Gotham with big weight?
Do you have the sample CSS that I can use? Just the paragraph and Header 1. I'll update the others.

Huge thanks
Mary

Hi, Mary, I'll get back to you shortly.

I think I've figured out like this:
/* Headings */
h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 {
padding-bottom: 18px;
color: #000066;
font-family: 'Georgia', sans-serif;
font-weight: bold
}

p {
line-height: 1.6;
margin-bottom: 15px;
font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif;
font-size: 15px;
}

Thank you so much!

Now I don't like the color of the post titles on the home page..
Need to find this in CSS
:-)
I'll end up rewriting the theme this way LOL

Hi, Mary, is mocashforyou your website, if so I'll take a look at it if you like.

Sorry about the delay in replying, but I've spent some time warding off a hacker trying to hack into my site. Don't worry, we'll sort out your site.

yes, it's my site. :-)
I hope hackers won't come to mine, I won't know what to do

Hi, Mary, does the image below show what your headings and text look like on your site?

.

Hi Harry,
Yes. I plan on setting better static page in the future, but for now rolling blog is ok. It looks good with this theme, coming as 2 columns. I just don't like that posts have black titles. I think some type of dark Blue would look better.
Mary

Ok, leave it with me Mary, and I'll get back to you shortly

Hi Mary, sorry about the delay, but I've taken an in depth look at your site and made some changes, based on a static home page, in a test site that you may find useful. I've also created some new graphics that you also may find useful.

I've sent you a PM with the link where you can take a look at it if you wish. If it, or any part of it, you find useful, I'll send you the custom css, which you can change however you like: fonts, text size, colors, etc.

I think you have got the answers. All the best

Why is the TinyMCE plugin dangerous to install on main website?

Hi, I'm experiencing issues with a bulleted list. It looks ok in the Visual tab in the editor but disappears in the preview. In text tab it starts with

    . When I change

Which theme are you using?

Are you creating a post or page using the theme or the Wordpress editor?

If you can't solve the problem, contact the theme developer, if you're using a free theme, it can be long before they answer.

I would suggest you install another website on SiterRubix, no domain name need, choose the same theme or another theme and see what happened. You can switch theme easily on Wordpress, don't hesitate to test.

Good luck.

Thanks
I use VMag free theme. I actually like it. It took me a long time to choose. But yes, their support is not responsive..

It's sad to say, but I don't suggest you use a theme where the support takes too long, it's not a good choice for your future.

A lot of developers don't even make update to their theme, I would recommend going with a paid theme, they're not so expensive, one of the best is Elementor and is about $40 and they have a better support.

Choosing the right theme at the begining is very important.

Learning to make a website is crucial for your success, it's better to spend some time now than later.

Wish you the best.

Calvin

Hi Maria. Are you creating your article in WordPress? Have you tried using site content? You may prefer it to start off and when you publish you can fine tune it in WordPress. That’s what I do and it work great.
Cheers

Hey Maria,

Thank YOU for having your website listed under your "Follow Me on" section of your profile. Now at least I can offer you a suggestion on helping you resolve this.

In Google searching "vmag wp theme - bullet lists" (without the quotation marks, of course) I was offered all sorts of video tutorials as well as posts.

I recommend you do the very same search and review a few of the videos... maybe even with having your post open in edit mode so you can SEE where you may have gone wrong.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks a lot. You have answered even when my question is not displayed correctly (I typed some code in it)
I try to use WA support first, but maybe for such technical issues, Google is the right place. I found this advice (not specific to my theme):

Please try to use the following CSS code.
You can add CSS code to your site with Simple Custom CSS plugin (just copy CSS code and paste it in Dashboard → Appearance → Custom CSS after installing and activating the plugin). Also, you can add CSS code directly to style.css file of your child theme.

#primary .widget ul {
list-style: disc;
}

Do you know where I can find this style.css file? Do I have to create a child theme first?

If it is NOT specific to your theme then it most likely will not work. Every theme developer creates their own CSS class and your bulleted list is not in a widget... is it?

Reason I ask, is that code is for a widget and not a page/post.

It is not very likely that you will find theme specific tutorials here at WA as there are far too many themes available, PLUS theme developers usually have their own tutorials.

The reason I made the suggestion I did was for you to find help the quickest way possible.

Can you test by creating a new list on the same post in another section and see if it shows up? Is the list just before or after any headers?

I have another list - it has the same issues

Are they in a paragraph or are they tagged as headers?
