What Is Your Biggest Motivator?

While brainstorming for a new topic idea to write for the Wealthy Affiliate community, I had the idea to start a thread on “What is your biggest motivator for starting an online business or website?”. When I started to type in the search bar “what is your biggest motivator”, I saw that there were no questions like this yet.

However, the opposite of this question WAS asked: “What is your biggest obstacle?” Therefore, I think it's time we add a discussion thread on what our motivations are for being an entrepreneur. Some of the common motivations of entrepreneurship are money, freedom, independence, creating, and helping people.

Because I have many motivations for pursuing this path, it's challenging for me to pinpoint my biggest motivator. I think it would be freedom. All my life I've been somewhat of a free spirit who went and thought against the norm. I can't even remember how many people I've shocked by now with the things I've said.

People have called me crazy and given me looks that clearly meant “what is wrong with this person?” My sense of individualism is naturally strong and while I honestly don't like attention on me, I'm the kind of person who stands out because of how I am.

The mere thought of being tied down to a 9 to 5 job drives me crazy! I don't think I would last very long in the traditional career. I want to be free to write exactly what I want, take on the tasks I enjoy, and work when I want to. Obviously, that cannot be done with most career paths. Being an online entrepreneur, however, does allow me to enjoy the type of work schedule right for me.

Hi Martina-Nice post. I like you have many motivations for pursuing this course, however sometimes for me anyways I tend not to see what the real priorities are and end up wondering why the solution to a particular problem keeps evading me. A few guidelines I use are to
do what I enjoy and makes me happy, as well as help others and stay focused.

Hi Martina! -

How are you?

Great post -- Great subject!!

"What motivated me?"

That's easy - I was twenty years old at the time -- So we are going back to 1982!

And a guy called Colin -- Who happened to be my sponsor in Amway - told me - "you can do - be - and have anything".

Wow - that short sentence changed my life!

And it has impacted on the way I have lived my life for the last 32 years.

And it will continue to do so!

For that I am truly Grateful!

** Have a Great Productive Day - Martina! **

And remember Rome wasn't built in a day...but they were laying bricks everyday!

Sounds like you are on a winner. Well done.

I like the topic of motivators...it's more positive. I joined because I wanted more money in retirement.

Excellent topic. My most recent website was motivated by sales. I moved a website to WA without saving my content, but the previous posts were still indexed by the search engines. So, with research, much thinking and finally deciding on a domain name, I'm up and running with my fourth website. It may be crazy, but I feel energized and invigorated.

Nice blog post, I like the idea of biggest motivators because in respect it is a positive thought or idea if you will. As far as your endeavors and your journey here on WA I wish you the best of luck!

My motivators is to be financially independent. Something that any job I have had has never enabled me to do. When I think of a 9 to 5 job I deplore it, Unfortunately, it is a necessary evil at this time. I would have to agree with in the regard to being a free spirit, I have always thought something was wrong with me. Until I have found that my interests are beyond what a job allows me to do.

Another motivator for me is able to spend time with my family without rushing around. I want to be able to buy things for them, and not worry anymore.

Lastly, my most recent motivator has been ranking on page one on a google keyword search for my website.

At any rate, welcome again and good luck!
