No Response, No Like: Why Bother

I have been reading posts from others and I will "like" it even if I don't particularly like it because there has been some effort in writing the post. I look through the responses to posts and many responses have just been sitting there without so much as a "like". There is no feedback given to the person who has responded to your post.

When someone has taken the time to read and respond to your post, I think a modicum of appreciation would be appreciated at the least in the form of a "like". It takes just a second to hit that "like" button.

Sometimes I cannot take the time to write a written response but I will hit like to let you know that I have seen it. Life happens and sometimes it prevents us from giving immediate feedback. I read every response and I try and answer within a week with a written response.

I just want to treat you the way I want to be treated.

Likes and responses add up here at WA to bring your rank down. I enjoy seeing my number drop down.

So please, if you write a blog or post and you get responses show a gesture of gratitude by liking it and even better add a thanks for sharing; or else why bother to post.

Love you WA family.

Same here Marquette. Also when someone follow someone else I notice that many followers never get a response. I treat people who don't respond to their followers comments with abject suspicion. Too busy to answer is ok but a standard answer could be created and it is quick to copy and paste it and to like the followers comment. However I get suspicious of people who don't respond and have tonnes of followers. Obviously this is my opinion only!

Hi Helen,
Do unto others as you want them to do to you. I like responses. I respond or try to respond to everyone. It is a bit tedious but what isn't in business or communication. I value your opinion. Keep it coming.

So far I'm sure I've read them all. I'm getting 100 plus email notifications a day. I go through them mostly in my spare time at work. I may have missed the odd one because I'm a supervisor, and sometimes get interrupted. But I agree it's important to acknowledge! Thank you for sharing.

I try to answer and it can become a bit overwhelming. I give it a like until I can get back to it so the responder will know that I am acknowledging them. You are welcome and thank you for sharing Thomas.

I'm jumping up and down, waving my arms and shouting 'I agree! I agree, I agree!"

This is about way more than good WA community etiquette stuff, it's about your online business.

This is the truth: if you're serious about becoming a successful blogger then you're going to have to get into the habit of engaging with your readers, responding to their questions and getting involved in the discussion.

This is how connections are built and influence earned.

(Test me on this and see if I don't reply to every comment on my comment)

Thanks for sharing Marquette, as I say, I couldn't agree more! :-)

Thank you for adding and explaining even more why we need to be mindful of this. You are welcome and thank you again Simon.

Well said! As you indicated by your last sentence, truly we are all a family here at WA!

It only takes a matter of seconds to at least check off the "like" button to something that is posted after you have read the article.
This simple action indicates that you appreciate the time that went into that individual having written the article!

Plus, it's just plain courtesy!

Yessir Jeff. That's the message I am trying to convey. Thank you.

I haven't thought much about this because I have only written a few blogs here, but I will definitely keep this in mind as I move forward here.

I do hit "like" on everything that I read. I think of it as an acknowledgement that I read every word and their message was delivered.

Thank you Theresa for sharing and for hitting like on the posts that you read. Every bit helps.

I can not understand why there are blogs without any response, I get all kind of notifications when a referral of me has taken any action, and I do not understand why people are so sloppy with their referrals. I would say, give them to me, I will pamper them:))

Maybe some members don't even know all of their referrals? I say this because I'm sure someone is getting credit for me being here, but I have no clue who they are!

I learned about WA through a website and clicked the link to try the free course from that website, so I'm sure the owner of the site received referral credit. I found that site through a Google search and have never looked at it again, so I don't even know what the website was and have no clue who my referral would have gone to. I'm sure others are in the same position and don't know who actually provided the info that brought them here. We're just kinda floating around on our own.

I read a post from someone that was very dissatisfied with their sponsor or the person that the referral went to. It was disheartening. I could feel his pain. He left so that he could get a new sponsor but no such luck. I would hope everyone would at least give their referrals a warm welcome and show them some appreciation because each paid referral is bread and butter for the sponsor. Thank you Loes.

I think everyone is notified when someone comes in through their website Teresa. It is a shame if you did not get recognized and welcomed by your sponsor. Thank you for sharing.

As far as I know, I didn't. I did get some welcome messages, but no one identified themselves as my referee, sponsor, whatever. It's okay though because other people are so helpful here. I'm finding my way around.

Well the good part is, even if you do not know who referred you, you have plenty of people to draw from.

You are right. For the most part, affiliates want to help you succeed. The lessons will keep you trucking and move you right ahead.

You are right, it's hard to say how you came in, Kyle or Carson do always place welcomes messages. And you have no welcome message of another member

I am not sure, if an ex-premium member still gets messages Marquette

Yes, Marquette, I agree with you. Not only just for the acknowledgement but the like on your page also helps in your overall ranking here at WA. We have to remember that this is a very large group of entrepreneurs and for whatever reason some do not click the like button, ever. You will just have to remember who these few are. I was going to say so that you could return the favor, but two wrongs never make a right. I understand . Have a blessed day!
Ken

Ken sometimes I think that but I end up at least hitting the like button. I usually respond even if it is to say thank you or great post. I even hit like to someone who was very rude to me and responded in a positive way. I want everyone to get the most out of this wonderland WA and if I can help by a like then I will. Thank you Ken for stopping by.

I truly understand where you are coming from. I too try to respond to those who have taken the time to leave me a comment, and I try to make sure I have liked them all. I use this format many times to test the waters on a topic and if I get no responses it make it difficult to gauge how the post goes over. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of us, I do however fear the people who read and respond to this are the same people who do that already, missing the people who need to see it.

Art

I agree Art. As a teacher when I offer extra credit to help bring up low grades the ones that take advantage of the offer are the ones with the better grades. I understand and I don't. It is the ones who sometimes need the most who are not willing to do the bare necessity to get through. We all love encouragement and this is a way to do it. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for the comment, I am sure with you being in the top 200 you stay pretty busy helping others.

I think every other month, someone writes a post about the same topic; I wrote one a few months ago.

Believe it or not, a few peoeple responded by saying they were too busy!!! So then, my response was that if everybody had the same attitude, then no one would be reading anyone else's posts!

My argument was that if you write a few posts a week, and you see some of the same people leaving a comment, how could you NOT leave a response. That's just being inconsiderate.

I will say that one person who read my post apologized to me personally, then wrote a public apology for not responding to people's comments. She has since proven herself to be a woman of honor and always responds to people's comments now. Hopefully, some one will read your post, Marquette and change their ways.

That's a great story. Awesome!

I always try to at least give a like. If I'm reading on my phone (like right now) I won't always write something because I hate fighting with Autocorrect. For example, my first sentence above needed to be corrected by me because Autocorrect changed it to "that's a great story, swine!"

Glad I caught that one. :)

This is a great story. It is more difficult on the phone. I am glad you caught it too. lol. Thank you Craig.

Me too!!! That's too funny, Craig!

Veronica I read someone's post earlier and I could not believe they hadn't responded to anyone and there was no like on any of the responses. The post was more than a couple of weeks old so it bothered me. I like to be fair. Thank you for concurring with me.

I can't imagine what might go through your head if I missed it!

Autocorrect is the bane of my existence. One day, I will allow it to "fix" everything I post, just for fun (after issuing a disclaimer, of course).

Obviously, people want other people to read their post or else they wouldn't publish it!

On the flip side, we don't always know what' going on with people, so there could be a valid reason. But there are those that are constantly creating posts, having people "like" with barely mention that they appreciate that someone took time out of their life to read what they wrote. If I see that happen regularly with someone, I just stop reading their posts and keep it moving.

My life would be full of gibberish and aimless wandering without Grammarly and Post-Its...especially Post-Its!!!

Hmm. I don't even know Post-Its... Something else for me to check out now...Lol

Post-Its are a sticky, square colorful paper that you can stick or "post" to any surface for reminders. They come in different sizes but most of them can fit in the palm of your hand. Google it!

Hahaha! Oh my goodness. I am dense. I was thinking it was some sort of plug-in. :P
I am familiar with the actual, physical Post-its.
I swear, I have not been drinking!

You're cracking me up, Craig!!! Not everything has to do with WA!!! But a Post-it plugin....sounds interesting, lol.

Well, Kyle apparently once said that "those who eat, breathe and sleep WA are the ones most likely to succeed," so I took that to heart! WA is on my mind for a good portion of each day!

But, yeah... That was kind of dumb of me. Lol

Marquette,

Thank you for bringing out this truth.

We are all in this to help one another and one way is to click "like" on their blog. if nothing else, show a sign of respect and appreciation for their efforts.

Come on guys, how much time does it take to give a click?

If I can do it with a wacky shake hand, so can you!!

Thank you Sunday. I love your tenacity and attitude towards life. It is what you make of it and how you take it. Thank you for your encouraging words. This is one of the easiest ways to help our fellow WAians.
