Can you tell if there are 2 or 3?

Hello Everyone,

There is an old adage, "There are two sides to every story." I was at a marriage counseling seminar and the speaker used a coin and said, " There are 2 sides to every coin." This was said as an absolute. While he was speaking on this and making his point they had a power point showing a penny with the coin standing on its side and spinnining. Thus, showing the third side. The front side was broad and so was the backside. The side of the coin that it spent upon was able to reveal both the heads and the tails at the same time. But we are only able to see one side at a time. The side is very thin. I thought hmmm, I think there are three.

With that being said, the broad sides I think are full of opinions and the truth of the matter is just that. The facts and no additives, no fluff.

So I just want to get your opinion if you will, please. I want to know are there only two sides to a coin or do you think there are three?

I think usually there are at least 3 sides to a story. My side, your side and the truth.

I would love it if you would comment and like; only if you like. Thank you for stopping by.

Good Day,

Marquette

Hi Marquette

I agree with you. It's remarkable what some people believe to be the truth. Quite often it is only their opinion. People believe what they read on Facebook. They forget that it was a person who expressed their opinion, not backed by real facts.

The 3 sides approach encourages us to stop and think about things, making sure that it's not just our own opinion, someone else's opinion and that there are real facts to be considered.

Great idea to ponder

Luthor

I like that, pondering brings us closer to the truth

I like to ponder and not speak in haste. Thank you Linda.

Omg, Luthor yes should always consider the facts. Facebook truth is so many times unbelievable. You have to be gullible to consider much of the facebook stuff as truth. It is a wonderful tool. To my dismay, many people use it for foolishness and starting and continuing trouble. Thank you for stopping by.

Have to agree, there are three sides. You could be right about the sides of a story as well. Different people see things from different perspectives and their view of what has happened. There could be more than 3 sides to some stories.

Food for thought.

Indeed. As many sides as there are witnesses to a story. Thank you for your input Wayne.

Definitely three

Hi Siza,
I agree. Thank you for chiming in. I appreciate it.

Interesting this is.

Enjoying it I am!

So am I Michael. I appreciate you.

Yup it is John. Thank you for stopping by.

Hmmmm I love good marriage seminar stories lolll . I think that the person using this adage gave it a good go. But the only person who can be truly great at a Parable is our Creator for he knows exactly how both the Spiritual and Physical sides were created and how they work.

But our world is very very complex. So there are many angles to look at one thing. I was listening to Colin Cowherd the other day sports radio. He said He always wondered why there are 3 judges at a Big Fight.

They each sat on a different side of the ring and he wondered why. He said they would all had widely different scores. The best judges in the world.

He said because they have different perspectives of the same thing.

But I think it is a cop out if we think that we are not right and another person is not wrong every once in awhile at least. It happens. And vica versa of course.

So each situation is different. However... The point that we all have different perspective is true. Even the best of us can be blinded from the Truth. As a Christian I know that King David was.

Some people are so blind to the fact that other people are actually alive and on the planet. Even their spouses. So letting people know that their perspective is off is a good lesson no matter how un exact.

I love the story of David. From when they had to get him from the field when all of his brothers were summoned by Jesse to stand before Samuel to his end. Yes he was blinded to his own actions but he understood well when Nathan told him about another's scenario and David would have given that man a harsh judgment. Then his own actions became clear that he had done wrong. Our eyes are more cloudy when we talk about our own sins but many times we know exactly what someone else should have done. Thank you for stopping by Cedric.

True! We must be very careful. And also have more grace at times. Whoo great story to illustrate how even a good man can be a bad man and not even know it...

Back to your premise . LOLL . I think there are more than two sides of a story. Things are too complex in this world...

Indeed, Cedric.

Chuckles

I would agree that there are 3 "versions"...version "a", version "b" and version "c"..."a" and "b" are persons..."c" is their combined "being" when they are together..."truth" for me, however, is NOT a singular function of either...I see "truth" as indisputable "fact", so in Loes' automobile example below, the 10 different stories can agree on only ONE thing -- that there was an accident...all the rest, erroneously called "truth", is merely the accident seen through the lenses of each of those 10 witnesses -- and there are NO two sets of lenses which are totally synchronous...a very long way of saying there ARE 3 perceptions...people "a" and "b" and "c" which is "a" and"b" when they become what their relationship is in a factual sense...sorry for the sagacity, but I have dealt with this for years teaching epistemology and have listened to students struggle with "what is truth"...and we are witnessing it today with the nonsense going on in Washington, DC, and the deep-seeded hatred of OUR President, which has no precedent in U.S. history...still, it is the struggle with "truth" on a grand scale...and, by the way...I could NEVER understand why counselors have been able to be "neutral" in any marriage counseling session...it will always be a mystery to me...so, once again, I apologize for devolving into the old college lecturer with this, Marquette...

There is no need to apologize Arthur. I value everyone's point of view. It opens other angles or perspectives for me to see. I can feel and see the professor in you. I agree with you about the 10 witnesses of the accident. I appreciate you stopping by.

Given that we each see the world and events through our own eyes and life experiences, there are many perspectives on everything.
That keeps life interesting.
Only through some form of dialogue do we have a chance of "seeing" one another's "truths".
Isn't life wonderful?
Susan

Yes it is, Susan. The many perspectives are very interesting. Thank you for stopping by.

Truth is not absolute. We each have our own subjective truth, so there are MANY sides to the truth!

I do believe we do have our subjective truth but the absolute truth is without prejudice. Thank you for stopping by Eril.

When there is an accident with 10 witnesses, you can have 10 different stories, and all are true for the person who tells it, it's a matter of perception, education, and background.

This is very true Loes. I think there is still only one truth. No matter the education, perception and background. Background and education may make your perception different in my opinion. Great example. Thank you for stopping by.

It's always hard to find the real truth:)

Good point. Definitely three sides....front, back, side. Each person has their own view which causes conflicts. Always best to try and see another other side. Thanks for sharing. Debbie

I try to see it from all angles. The truth will make you free. Thank you for stopping by Debbie.
