What's The Point Of Your Site's Footer?

Hey there,

How are you doing? Got anything interesting going on this weekend? Let me know in the comments box below :)

I'll just be here chasing around a two year old as usual, LOL!!

Anyways, today I wanted to touch briefly on your site's footer. I think a lot of people take it for granted because it is at the bottom of the page. Many of us don't even scroll all the way to the bottom of sites so we probably don't really use it ourselves.

But what happens when we scroll down and nothing is there? You won't know what to do next right?

That's the point of the footer. It is to give you options in case you need some direction.

Since it is an area less used, it tends to hold important pages that aren't your main content like privacy policies and stuff like that.

Your footer also makes your site complete. Do you dress without pants in the summer just because its warm and you don't necessarily 'need' them?

No, you still have to wear your pants. Your site footer is the same way so make sure that you take the time to set it up and include it as a part of your site.

Here's training on adding menus to your footer if you need some guidance:

Talk to you soon and hope this helps :)

Thank you!!

My daughtetr is performing in her first play with a role in "Mulan" this weekend. We will be there as her first and biggest fans! Thanks for asking!
Thanks for the advice on Footers. Great for me as I am constructing my site now.
Have a great weekend!

In my opinion there is the place to put your contact info, subscription list, translation widget and everything you want people to access from whatever page or post they are at the moment. They only need to scroll to the bottom and they find the same info wherever they are.

I agree Heidi. When I'm on a site, and wish to see where they are located physically, I scroll to the bottom and expect to see the Contact or About Us page.
Or when I look for an affiliate program, I also scroll to the bottom.

But maybe both can be done.

The bottom footer for the standard, and expected, stuff.

But above that you can put some teasers to keep the reader on your site. For example "Other interesting articles", or "Related Stories".

Hmm.. this could work.. I might actually apply that on my site :-)

LOL! I might apply that to my site, too! I have contact in the menu, but I notice that on mobile the menu is not so easily seen. I do everything on computer and am not really aware of how my sites appear on mobile - despite most of my traffic comes from mobile.
I should check it more often, but I don't like mobile phones at all...

when on your computer, press F12, and then the little phone/tablet button. Now you will see the site as if on a mobile device.
Click the button again, and you're in desktop mode again :-)
And press F12 again, to leave the developer mode.

Please note that it's not always 100% as on your phone, but it's a very good estimation. Final details have to be checked on a phone I'm afraid ;-)
