WA An English Speaking Platform

Yes, we do all know that WA is an English-speaking platform but WA is offered around the world which means that people of other languages use the platform.

Today it was brought to my attention when people from other countries do their blogging they write in their native language for people that they want to reach.

Which to me makes perfect sense. But I have seen people on the platform automatically mark a blog post from a member in another language as SPAM?

Yet we have members in the Live Chat that will talk to new members or other members in another language and this is acceptable.

Now exactly what am I getting at? Today I read a blog post from a member from Italy who writes her blogs in Italian because that is the audience that she wishes to reach.

In order for her to get comments which will help her ranking in Google she has no way to translate her whole website to English in order to receive comments from the people in the community.

Solution to this Problem

When I was confused over this problem I decided to ask one of the other members what we should do when we do not understand another language here at WA on blogs or in Chat.

The solution is very simple install a free translator to your browser! When you come across a blog, person in chat, or someone who needs comments left on their post use the translator.

https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEw...

I have already installed a translator on my laptop and it is very easy to use, when I find someone uses another language I just hoover over the writing and a little window pops up all I have to do is click on the "Translate" button and everything shows up in English.

Members Be Kind

If you do not yet have a translator install please get one instead of Spamming someone before actually reading what they have written.

Suppose this was you and you were in a Spanish platform but could only write in English how would you feel getting Spammed every time you spent hours writing a post?

Please understand I am not saying that all the posts or blogs that are put on WA are completely innocent of not being Spam in another language because I have found these too.

Just use common sense when dealing with something written in another language and do yourself and that person a favor and install a translator.

We are here to help each other and I do not feel that language should be a barrier to offering the help someone needs.

Closing

I know that this is a very short blog post today, but wanted to make all members aware of the fact that not all of us speak English perfectly and this can be a deterrent for those who do not.

A few seconds of our time as English-speaking members can go a very long way to helping someone in another country that needs our help.

This is the time of the year for all of us to be giving so please take a couple of minutes and install a free translator on your own computer to help everyone!

Thank you so much for reading and bless you all,

Susan

Sharing is caring please give this a like and comment.

Hi Susan

I don't want to rain on your lovely and kind post... so please excuse me for mentioning this, okay? ;-)

I know that Kyle has asked in the past, that WA remain an English only platform and that we only use English on our WA blogs and in Live Chat.

We are allowed to use other languages in Private Message.

Just for clarity purpose: On one's private websites - any language can be used, of course.

Please note that I said "we" - English is not my first language either! ;-)

I wish Kyle would chime in here and let us know whether their stance about this has changed. But, opening the platform to other languages, definitely opens a pandora box for spammers, and like you said, it has already happened.

As far as I know the consensus was to mark all foreign language posts as SPAM so that Kyle (or somebody of the team) can look at it and make a decision. Kyle can't police all of the posts on WA and he relies on the community to help.

Here is a very good example of a very dear WA-member whose English is not that good - but he respects the English platform - and he is making money! So it can be done. ;-) Susan, please don't take my comment as critique, I'm just pointing out that this was Kyle's instructions a few months ago.

Wishing everybody a lovely day (filled with ice cream)! ;-) LOL!

Sharlee,
I am not saying that we should expect everyone to install
a translator but I was pointed out to today that what about
people who need comments for their blogs to get ranked
in Google for their country how do they get help from the
community they are paying Premium Members as well!

Here in lies, the problem people use other languages in
Live Chat - and this is to be permitted - there are blogs
that are SPAM which come in other languages and I am
one of the first to mark them as such! But why should
everyone be condemned?

I do not like when I am in Live Chat and people are
speaking in another language - I feel very uncomfortable
because I do not know what they are saying -

I can completely understand and I was not at all for this
but it is 2018 and not the 1800's and translators are
available for free - just saying - I think everyone should
be treated fairly

Sorry that you do not feel that way and I always try to abide
by any rules of WA - so if you feel that we should not use
a translator then I guess I should take down my post!!

Susan

Hi Susan

I fully understand your reasoning, believe me! ;-)

But the fact remain, this is Kyle and Carson's website, it is THEIR business, and they decide on the rules. It is totally inappropriate for me and you (as guests at this website, since we are free to not have joined if we didn't like the rules), to stick our necks out about what WE think THEY should or shouldn't do with THEIR business.

Just like everybody has to install translators to understand me, when I speak in my native language, why can't I just use my translator, and respect Kyle's wishes and makes it easy for everybody else? Why does everybody else have to bend the rules, in order to accommodate me? That is the part that I don't get?

Here is a perfect example of how it should be done: Jerry Huang - he speak Chinese, but he will never post here or in Live Chat, in Chinese. Although outside of WA, he can of course do what he wants.

If Jerry's WA posts were in Chinese, since that is the market that he wants to reach, how many of the 1.4 million, mainly English speaking WA members, would have bothered to use a translator to read his valuable WA blog posts?

This is an English platform. Speaking another language is no excuse. There are MANY on here who are not native English speakers, but who makes the effort to develop and learn and try.

I have NEVER seen anybody being made fun of, or being scolded for incorrect English - thus it provides a safe environment for anybody who wants to better their English (if they don't want to use a translator themselves).

> what about people who need comments for their blogs to get
> ranked in Google for their country
Refer to Jerry's post - I believe networking is the answer, Susan.

I have a whole network of people here on WA who speak my native language.

They are on my email list and I am on theirs. If I post something in my native language, they get notified, if they post something, I get notified. We help each other out. We PM in our native language. We send articles to each other that we think the others would be interested in. All thanks to WA. But we don't need to enforce our native language on everybody else - it is indeed 2018, and we are smarter than that, we have the tools to help us.

I don't have to pretend that it is the 1800's and that I can't speak or understand English, while I can use a translator, right?

> people use other languages in Live Chat - and this is
> to be permitted
It is "tolerated", but against what Kyle has asked of us. Kyle suggested that if somebody doesn't understand English AT ALL, that they are going to have a problem on WA, since the training is in English. But we are permitted when we don't understand something in English, to ask in Live Chat whether there is somebody who are able to help us in our chosen language, and then to take it to Private Messaging. I don't think this is too difficult to understand, is it?

> Sorry that you do not feel that way
It looks like my well-intended message was not understood correctly, Susan. I said I fully understand, and even thanked you for the kind thought (since I am not a native English speaker myself, remember?), but what you and I feel, is totally out of the equation - WA is Kyle and Carson's business and it is for THEM to decide - regardless of what you and I feel. Just like it would be inappropriate for me to tell you what I think you should or shouldn't do on YOUR website.

This is not the first time that this issue was raised, I have seen it a few times in the year that I am here and people like Loes and MarionBlack and others, have probably seen in many times as well. And Kyle's answer has always been "for now it is an English-only platform".

I am sorry that my well-intended reply was taken wrongly, but if we know what Kyle's wishes are, it would be wrong for us to not relay it to others who have come afterwards and who don't know what he has asked of us.

Wishing you a lovely day, Susan!

Great post! Thank you for sharing this. When I run across someone asking a question in a different language, I use the translator to try and help them the best I can because I know they really need assistance and it can be frustrating for them if they are ignored. Thanks for the translator link and sharing your method of using it. I have now added it to my WA folder on my desktop so it'll be quick to find and easy to use. Thanks again. Yvette

Yvette,
Thank you, honey, you are so special to me!
I am just hoping we can get it to as many members
as possible to help those who do not speak English
as well as they would like to :)
Thanks for the support,
Susan

Aww...you're special, too! I'm hoping several members see your posting and start using the translator as well. Keep up the great work, Susan. :))

hey hi Susie - marley -- yes, appreciate very much your perceptive sensitivity for others -- shows you're a highly evolved being! ... ⭐️

... now, back to biz, yes, there's plenty for everyone here on Earth and that includes plenty of learning yet to be done ... and language is one of them ...

.... did you know that it takes different brain cells to be bilingual, triingual or multilingual, yes it does.... and the more effort and time we spend learning a new language, it gives us greater longevity ... (music too, does the same) ... it's pretty much captured in neuroscience development as we speak....

... since as a wee, wee one, i've always had this goal to be multi-lingual and have become so ... with the thinking that if i can speak / communicate / think in another language, i would learn to understand the culture associated with that language and would thus make a baby step towards greater understanding the world over and enjoy world peace.... are we there yet?! ...

.... that is my dream ... for everyone to enjoy life here and now as there is more than enough plenty to meet everyone's material physical needs if things were allocated appropriately --

.... then humanity would rise and evolve to the level of actualization --

sheeze --- well, didn't mean to draft a dissertation on this or get on a diatribe about it ... just sharing ....

well, Susie -- you've done a wonderful service for others by blogging today ... thanks so much ...

all the best, cheerio ... 😊

and by the way, here's a 🎁 for you -- virtual -- so you can make it whatever you like! ...

... gift of abundance, gift of understanding, gift of health, gift of wealth, gift of friendship, gift of great conversation, gift of love, gift of prosperity, gift of ....

Keisha,
Honey, I will take the gift of friendship from you,
you are one of my favorite members here and always
will be!
Thank you for the support and caring I always receive
from you my sweet friend,
Susie

... all the gifts are yours as you wish! ... it's virtual space and that's the beauty of it all ... and yes, of course, you can have it all as we are all so fortunate & blessed with all that we have today ...

blessings for everything good ... cheerio ... 🎁

We are all in this community together; like we share this wonderful planet. ANd we all have something to say. A translator tool is an awesome tool to connect with people of different languages. Thanks for sharing.

Mark,
Thank you I use mine all the time here in WA and would
appreciate as many members as we can get the word to
please download a free translator and give all a chance to
be successful - it does not have to be in English :)
Thanks for the support,
Susan

Thanks Susan. Great advice. How does one go about marking something “spam?” And where does that happen?
Thanks,
Dina:)

Dina,
It happens - and when you know it is spam then I am all for it
being marked as such - I have done it myself when people
throw gambling sites on the blog page!
But just because we do not speak another language why do
we automatically assume it is spam - at the top of each blog
is a little box with a gear icon and a drop-down menu - this
is where you can report spam :)
But with a free translator please read the blog first we are
here to support each other and language should not be a
barrier.
Thank you for reading and supporting me,
Susan

No matter what the endeavour, there are always people who appoint themselves as Thought Police.

Unfortunately, Phil
this is so true :(

Well stated, and an excellent solution to what really should not be a problem in our day and age.

There is much to be learned from a culture different from our own. The availability of translators online, has opened a door of opportunity, and for those willing to step through it, can be really enriching.

From an English speaking guy living in a Spanish speaking country, I can say that I really appreciated the efforts and patience of many Nicaraguans as I learned to speak Spanish. I can just imagine where I would be if they had shut the door on me, or had not been willing to help me. Fuera muy triste el asunto.

Thank you for encouraging us to expand our horizons a little bit.

Mitch,
You are so right but as WA members it is our responsibility
to pay it forward and I do not think language should be a
barrier especially with the free translator available here online :)
Thank you for reading and supporting me,
Susan

Thanks for your post, Susan.
Automatic translation programs have been steadily improving for years and most of the time they are pretty good with translations towards English.

Marsha,
I know the one I have is so this is why I recommend that all
members download one - it will help us all and that is what
WA is all about helping each other :)
Thank you for bringing this to my attention,
Susan

When they were first being developed back in the 1960s (when I started in IT) the quality test was to translate a English phrase or sentence to the foreign language and then to translate the result back to English.

Supposedly, one English/Russian translator going through this double translated "out of sight, out of mind" back to "invisible madman".

We've come a long way, fortunately!

I did skip a page in site comments because I didn't speak the language and I didn't see an option to translate it. I never would have thought someone would try to mark it as spam. At least this gives us a way to work around it.

Keep in mind, if this is one of your referrals would you want them getting spam banned and lose interest in WA because of other members? Do on to others.......

Jason,
Exactly - and it did happen to me one night I read a blog post
that I translated someone else thought it was spam and actually
had enough nerve to call me out on it asking me if I read the
blog post - which I did word for word - they considered it spam
which it was not - the person ended up getting spammed and
it was removed I was very upset with the right to be!!
Thank you so much but felt this needed to be said here
Thank you for supporting me as well hun,
Susan

Thanks for the post-Susan.

Glad you got the translator working now.

It certainly makes it easier to find out not only what is being written from another language but what is the purpose of the post as well.

Have a great week ahead.

Andre

Andre,
Thanks to you, but thanks to Marsha I wanted to make
others aware this needs to be part of our community
to help everyone :)
Thank you for being so sweet and kind
Susan

No probs Susan and I agree just because it is written in another language it does not mean it is spam.

However, as you know some recent ones we have had have other intentions.

Thank you, sweet friend,
Andre

Well said, Susan.

Phil,
Thank you for supporting me and others here at WA,
Susan
