What is Enough Time

Everyone complains about time and how much they never enough time to do the things they want or there is never enough time in a day to accomplish everything that needs to be done.

It is my belief that if one gets their life organized then there should always be enough time to accomplish any goals that you set for yourself or your family.

The largest mistake that people make is not having a schedule or routine to their lives each day this does not have to be specific but having a day that certain things get accomplished is.

How does one go about getting organized and keeping things this way especially with children, work, school, daycare, family functions, and everything else needing done?

Schedules are how it is done and sticking to them means that you will always find a little space in there for romance for you and your spouse or just yourself whatever the case maybe.

Sticking to a schedule is not an easy task but if you make one that can work for you then it becomes even simpler as time goes on.

Step One Organization

This is the hardest step and takes the most time to accomplish I have found if once it is done keeping it this way becomes easier with time.

Start with each room of your home declutter and take out what you no longer need or want in that room - remove it to a space to decide what is going to be done with it later.

Once each and every room of the house has been decluttered take the time to give the room a thorough cleaning from top to bottom.

All rooms means closets and dressers for clothes no longer worn or out-of-date, same with shoes and toys if children involved get rid of what is not being used.

Things that are in the wrong rooms but are items being used, needed, or wanted need to be taken to the proper room and put away.

Great now the whole house is clean and decluttered - what to do with that huge pile of things that was removed from all the rooms that is no longer wanted or needed?

Trash needs taken to the trash - other items still usable can be donated or given away depending on your preference please pick a charity that helps your community.

Setting up a Schedule

Sundays have always been a family time for every one that I know and feel that this is a day of rest for all - select this day to rest and spend time with your family.

Monday - Back to work day of the week so since it is such a bad day to begin with why not use it for making sure the lawn work gets done after work or any other maintenance at home.

Tuesday - Use this day for the cleaners and laundry while you have laundry washing why not take the time to quickly dust and run the sweeper or swiffer through the house before dinner.

Wednesday - Hump day yes and what a day for hitting the grocery store after dinner along with any other shopping that might just need to be done.

Thursday - You could use this as a cook ahead day (that is what I used to do) when I got home I would have meals planned out and make three or four ahead to save time with dinners.

Friday - Right after work do a quick run through of the house running the sweeper and dusting or swiffer through and the house is ready for the week end. Have time to relax.

Saturday - Saved for doing anything major needing done around the house but if not then could plan an outing for the family or just catching up on somethings that were missed during the week.

Children Need Responsibility

Children if they are in the house need to be responsible for helping keep things in order just as much as the adults. Why? It helps them with feeling needed and gives them a sense of pride.

Children do not always do it an adults way but that needs to be overlooked until they can grow into it for instance making their own bed so what if it is not perfect they will get there.

Make them responsible for keeping their room clean and clutter off the floor when finished playing with something put it away before getting out more toys or games. Eventually this works but it takes time and always praise them should they keep up.

Having them make sure they clear their own dishes from the table to the sink can make a big difference later in life, anything they can do to help in actuality helps you in the end.

Adults need to do the same always pick up after yourself immediately putting things away when you get home from work hang up your jackets put your work shoes away.

Once these habits are instilled they just keep going and you end up with a cleaner more organized home thereby when it is time to clean you have no huge mess to work with.

In Closing

Time is what you make of it not what it makes of you - find a schedule that can work for you and if you have children include them believe me they love to help if given the chance.

Working from home as most of us do finding the time with another full time job seems like fighting for more hours in a day but if you get organized first this will make it simple.

Set up an office in your home someplace quiet where you can work at least an hour each night and with a set schedule in place this will make it easier for you to find that hour who knows maybe even two.

Have a spouse then this makes it even more possible for you to find the time while you work they can be spending quality time with the children if you have any or maybe they have a hobby giving you the space you need.

Either way being organized and having a schedule will make everyone's life more enjoyable and much easier down the road.

Thanks for reading hope it helps some of you with ideas on how to find more time in today's complicated and busy world.

I agree thank you :)

Yes, scheduling your time brings organization to you life. This is what I do all the time. I try to complete my to do list list each day. If not, the task is carried over to the next day list. Happy face stickers are placed by each completed task.
Thank you for sharing, Susan.

Hi Susan, time management is crucial. Thank you for your post

Believe me this organizational method works :)

Heading to the office store tomorrow and picking up simple organizing stuff dry erase board, file folders, sticky post, whatever will help. I tried using my computer to send pop ups to me..they always manage to hit when I'm right in the middle of something and get dismissed with email notifications. Need a board so I have something to stare at, and keep reminding me to do it.
Thanks Susan

I think you are going to get this together and be
